Use Playwright’s page.pdf() to save a webpage as a PDF. For an admission portal, first check whether the school already provides a Print, reprint, or PDF download control; otherwise, navigate to the relevant page, wait for the actual form or application details to appear, and generate an A4 PDF. Playwright renders PDFs with print CSS by default, so review the result for missing backgrounds, clipped fields, and unexpected page breaks.
Check for the school’s own print or PDF option first
Admission portals do not all work the same way. Some provide an intended print or download route that may be preferable to automating a browser print. For example, Pragati School Satana’s 2026-27 admission page directs applicants who already have an Application ID to use its Print control (Pragati School Satana admissions). The Government of NCT of Delhi’s page for the 2026-2027 admission session lists online application and reprint links for some categories (Delhi Directorate of Education). A separate SamarthX portal overview describes application submission followed by PDF download or printing (SamarthX).

These are examples, not a universal process. If the portal offers a Print, reprint, or PDF button for your application, follow its instructions. It may require an Application ID or a signed-in session. Use Playwright when you need a repeatable browser workflow or the portal has no suitable native export. Only access pages and application records you are authorized to view.
Generate a PDF with Playwright in Node.js
Install Playwright in a Node.js project, then save this as save-admission.js. Replace the example URL with the admission page you are permitted to access.

The file is written to the current working directory. Playwright’s official API documentation explains the PDF options and rendering behavior: Playwright Page API: page.pdf().
Wait for the form, not an arbitrary delay
page.goto() waits for the load event by default. For pages that build their form dynamically, a navigation event alone may not mean the admission content is ready. Wait for a visible, page-specific element that indicates the content you need has appeared. For example, if the form has a stable selector such as #admission-form, add this after navigation:

Playwright documents other navigation wait conditions, including domcontentloaded, networkidle, and commit; it cautions that networkidle is discouraged as a general testing readiness signal. Avoid a fixed sleep as a substitute for checking the specific content. The API notes that Playwright auto-waits for actions and that waitForLoadState() is often unnecessary if the requested state has already been reached.

Handle pages that require sign-in
If an application is behind a login, authenticate through an appropriate authorized session before printing. Do not put passwords, student personal information, or session state into code you share or publish. The example above does not implement a login flow because portals use different authentication systems; use the school’s own instructions and protect any credentials or saved session data.
Choose print media, paper size, and layout options
page.pdf() uses print CSS media by default. This can produce a different layout from the page shown on screen because the site may apply separate print styles. Choose settings based on the document you need, then inspect the PDF rather than assuming the browser view and PDF will match.

Inspect the PDF before printing or sharing it
Open the generated file and check the actual document, not just the browser preview. Confirm that the application details are complete and legible, and that the exported pages are appropriate to keep or share.

- Look for clipped text, cut-off columns, and content too close to the paper edge.
- Check page breaks, blank pages, and whether a long form is split in a usable place.
- Confirm that required logos, shaded sections, and other background graphics are present.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
For a one-off school application, the school’s own print or download function may require less setup and is designed for that portal’s process. Playwright is useful when you need to repeat the same capture or control browser print settings in code. It still depends on the page loading correctly and on the browser rendering the site’s print styles; inspect output and handle failures in your own workflow. The example closes the browser in a finally block so the browser process is closed if navigation or PDF generation throws an error. No school-specific page or login flow is assumed here.
