Livestreams fall within YouTube’s channel monetization policies. Eligibility depends on the originality, meaningful value, and authenticity of the content and the channel as a whole—not simply on whether the stream is live or whether you have permission to use the material.
Does YouTube’s reused-content policy apply to livestreams?
Yes. YouTube says “video” on its monetization-policy page includes live streaming, and the policies apply wherever videos are viewed. A nonstop prerecorded broadcast therefore does not get an exemption just because it is delivered as a live stream. YouTube’s published guidance does not specifically classify every 24/7 prerecorded format as either permitted or prohibited; the channel and its content are assessed against the general standards. What the policies mean
Reused content: transformation and viewer value
YouTube describes reused content as material already available on YouTube or another online source that is repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Meaningful transformation can make reused material eligible under this policy, but it does not settle copyright questions or guarantee monetization.

The key distinction is whether viewers can tell there is a meaningful difference between the source and the creator’s version.

Examples YouTube says may violate the rule include compilations of show clips with little or no narrative, collections of social-media clips, collections of songs from different artists even when permission was obtained, material copied online without substantial modification, and content uploaded many times by other creators. These examples are illustrative, not an exhaustive list.
Inauthentic content: repetitive or mass-produced output
Since July 15, 2025, YouTube has used “inauthentic content” for material previously described as “repetitious content.” The clarification says the existing policy includes repetitive or mass-produced material; YouTube said the reused-content policy itself did not change. Inauthentic-content examples include similar videos with minimal variation or value, templated storylines that reach the same outcome, and slideshows or scrolling text with little narrative or educational value. A repeated segment is not automatically a reused-content violation. But a channel built around substantially repetitive or mass-produced output may raise the separate inauthentic-content issue, even if the underlying material is the creator’s own. YouTube’s clarification says these guidelines apply regardless of how the content was made.

Copyright is a separate question
Copyright enforcement and reused-content monetization review are not the same test. YouTube says, “This policy applies even if you have permission from the original creator.” Permission, a fair-use position, or the absence of a copyright claim does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization. Conversely, a reused-content review is not itself a finding that copyright was infringed.
How YouTube may assess a channel with a nonstop stream
YouTube may review the channel as a whole, and a reused-content decision can affect monetization for the entire channel. The policy says reviewers may consider individual videos, titles, descriptions, the channel description, and the About section. It also identifies the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the videos responsible for the largest share of watch time, and metadata as possible areas of focus. The listed factors are examples, not a promise that review is limited to them.
Use those published criteria to examine your format. The following are practical questions derived from the policy, not a separate YouTube checklist or a prediction of a review result:

- What is the source? Is the material your own, or do you have a legitimate basis to use it? Source rights matter for copyright, though they do not by themselves resolve reused-content eligibility.
- What changes or original contribution are present? Does the stream add meaningful commentary, information, editing, or entertainment value, rather than merely replaying material?
- How repetitive is the output? Does the same segment recur with little meaningful variation, or does the programming offer distinct substance over time?
- Can viewers and reviewers identify your contribution? Do the stream, its title and description, and the channel presentation make clear what you created and what value you add?
- Does the channel as a whole demonstrate distinct value? Consider whether a nonstop stream dominates the channel’s theme, views, or watch time and what that means in the context of the other content.
For example, replaying a third party’s songs continuously—even with permission—matches one of YouTube’s examples of content that may fail the reused-content guideline. An original recording can present a different rights picture, but repeating it does not automatically establish that the channel meets the originality, value, and authenticity standards. The actual outcome remains a channel-level assessment.
What changed in July 2025—and what did not
YouTube’s July 15, 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify the treatment of repetitive or mass-produced material. YouTube stated that the reused-content policy did not change. The terminology update should not be read as a new rule that every loop is prohibited, or as approval for a loop that otherwise lacks meaningful value.
