Before uploading a batch, check that every file is present, plays from beginning to end, contains the expected video and audio streams, and matches the intended playlist entry. Then upload through YouTube Studio, review each video’s details and playlist assignment, and inspect YouTube’s Checks before publishing. A prerecorded playlist upload is not the same workflow as sending a live broadcast from an encoder.
Preflight the whole batch before opening YouTube Studio
Use a staging folder or other clearly identified location and compare its contents with your upload plan. YouTube does not prescribe a local batch-validation utility or checksum process; the checks below are a practical way to catch missing, damaged, or misidentified files before upload.

- Make an expected-file list. Record the intended filenames and count, then compare them with the files in the staging location. Look for duplicate names, temporary exports, and files conspicuously smaller or shorter than expected. Those are warning signs to investigate, not automatic proof of a bad file.
- Confirm every file opens and plays. Open each video in a media player or inspect it with a media-information utility. Play the opening, a point in the middle, and the end. A filename and extension alone do not prove that the file decodes throughout.
- Inspect the media streams. Check the actual container, video codec, audio codec, duration, dimensions, frame rate, and whether audio is present. Do not infer codecs from an extension such as
.mp4. - Review picture and sound. Confirm the expected orientation and aspect ratio, and listen for missing, clipped, unintelligible, or out-of-sync audio. Check that the duration and dimensions make sense for the playlist entry.
- Optionally compare checksums after a transfer. If you have a trusted source copy, comparing its checksum with one generated from the staged copy can reveal an unintended file change. This is a general integrity precaution, not a YouTube requirement; YouTube’s upload documentation does not prescribe a checksum algorithm.
Which file formats and settings should you check?
YouTube lists supported containers and formats including MOV, MPEG, MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV, WebM, ProRes, DNxHR, CineForm, and HEVC. Audio-only files cannot be uploaded to create a video. An accepted format is not necessarily the preferred export setting, so check the streams inside each file rather than relying on its name or extension. See YouTube’s video and audio formatting specifications and supported YouTube file formats.

Use recommendations as a compatibility reference, not a reason to re-encode blindly
YouTube’s recommended upload encoding guidance includes MP4 with H.264 video and AAC-LC audio, and calls for Fast Start, with the MP4 moov atom at the front. YouTube also recommends preserving the source frame rate. These are recommendations; a different accepted format does not automatically mean an upload will fail. Compare the source to YouTube’s formatting specifications and recommended upload encoding settings before deciding whether an export is needed.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
If a file already plays correctly and meets your needs, do not convert the whole batch just to make it match a preferred setting. Unnecessary conversion can reduce quality or introduce new problems. If you do need to export again, preserve the original frame rate where possible and verify the exported result with the same playback checks.
Upload the files and assign the intended playlist
- On desktop, open YouTube Studio and choose Create > Upload videos.
- Select the batch. YouTube Help says desktop users can upload up to 15 videos at a time; treat this as the limit stated in the help page, not as a guarantee that every account or interface will always show identical labels.
- For each video, review its details and confirm that the title and other information match your upload plan.
- Assign the intended playlist to each video. Do not assume that selecting several files automatically gives every one the correct playlist assignment; verify each item’s details.
- Review YouTube’s Checks before publishing. YouTube says Checks can identify copyright issues and, for eligible YouTube Partner Program creators, ad-suitability issues. They do not replace local playback, file-completeness, or playlist checks.
For the current desktop steps, see YouTube Help on uploading YouTube videos and adding videos to a playlist.

How prerecorded playlist uploads differ from a live broadcast
Uploading prerecorded files uses YouTube Studio’s upload, details, playlist, and Checks workflow. If you mean a live event sent from an encoder, that is a separate workflow: YouTube’s guidance covers testing before going live, checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring stream health, and verifying the integrity and growth of a local archive file.

Settings such as RTMP or RTMPS, bitrate, keyframe interval, and live-ingest frame rate apply to an encoder sending a live signal. They are not a checklist for uploading prerecorded MP4 files into a playlist. For encoder-specific preparation, follow YouTube’s streaming tips and live encoder settings guidance.

Common problems and what to do
- The file extension looks right, but Studio rejects the file: Inspect the actual container and codecs, then compare them with YouTube’s supported-format list. An extension does not identify every stream inside the file.
- The video starts but freezes or fails later: Play the file through to the end locally. If playback fails, make a clean export from the source and recheck the new file before uploading.
- The video uploads but has missing or out-of-sync sound: Listen to the full local file or sample its beginning, middle, and end. Confirm that an audio stream is present and that it is intelligible and synchronized before retrying.
- The wrong videos appear in the playlist: Revisit each video’s details in Studio and confirm its playlist assignment rather than relying on the batch selection.
- YouTube’s Checks reports an issue: Read the result in Studio and address it before publishing as appropriate. Checks are platform screening, not a substitute for your own rights review or local file checks.
- An actual encoder-based live stream has poor stream health: Use the Live Control Room preview and YouTube’s live-stream guidance. Do not troubleshoot an upload-file problem with encoder bitrate or keyframe settings unless you are actually sending a live encoder feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
