It is most compelling if you will actually assign those controls and can reach them comfortably; the layout is less persuasive if you want a wireless mouse or prioritize fast, light FPS movement. Configuration uses Corsair iCUE, so the software workflow is part of the buying decision.
What the SCIMITAR RGB ELITE offers
Corsair’s product information, updated February 13, 2026, describes the SCIMITAR RGB ELITE as a wired MMO/MOBA mouse. Its defining feature is a side panel with 12 buttons that slides into a position Corsair says can suit a player’s hand and grip. In total, Corsair lists 17 programmable buttons. The remaining controls and the side cluster can be assigned through iCUE.

The wired RGB ELITE is not the separate SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS. The two are distinct products in the Scimitar lineup, as reflected in RTINGS’ comparison, updated March 5, 2026. If wireless connectivity is essential, assess the wireless model on its own specifications rather than assuming its features apply here.

Will the 12-button panel work for your games and hand?
When a dense thumb layout helps
For an MMO or MOBA player with many frequently used abilities, macros, or commands, 12 side buttons can put a substantial set of bindings within thumb reach. That can reduce the need to reach for keys elsewhere, provided the buttons are mapped in a way you can remember and operate accurately. The value comes from using the controls, not simply having a high button count.
Check reach and grip before choosing
The sliding panel provides a way to reposition the side buttons, but it cannot guarantee a good fit for every hand. Consider your hand size, grip, thumb length, and whether you can identify and press the intended buttons without shifting your grip. Corsair identifies palm grip in its specifications; that is manufacturer positioning, not a universal ergonomic guarantee.

When the layout may be the wrong priority
If you mainly play FPS games and choose a mouse for quick, light movement, do not infer that this model is suitable from its MMO button count. This is a use-case distinction, not a claim about measured speed or gaming performance: the available evidence does not include current latency tests or direct comparative measurements.
How controls and profiles are configured
iCUE is central to making the programmable controls useful. Corsair’s documentation describes configuring lighting, remapping keys, and creating macros. Its FAQ says a button can receive multiple key inputs and confirms that three onboard profiles are stored on the mouse. The Corsair iCUE macros guide explains macros and notes that basic lighting effects, remaps, and macros can be saved to hardware profiles.

This is a software-based setup workflow: plan your bindings, configure them in iCUE, and save what you need to a hardware profile if you want settings available from the mouse. The documentation establishes the available functions, but not how easy or reliable the current software experience will be for a particular user.
What independent review evidence says—and does not say
Tom’s Hardware reviewed the SCIMITAR RGB ELITE on February 15, 2020. That review praised its build and finish, comfort, and the utility of its macro buttons. It also said the lift-off distance was difficult to assess precisely because Corsair did not provide an exact specification. These are observations from a review published in 2020, not current testing.

No current firsthand testing, latency measurements, durability results, or live price and stock checks are established here. Treat the model’s specifications as Corsair’s published claims, and the older review as historical context rather than a current benchmark.

- Consider it if you play MMOs or MOBAs, want numerous thumb-accessible bindings, and are willing to configure buttons and profiles in iCUE.
- Check the fit carefully if your comfort depends on thumb reach or a particular grip; the movable panel gives adjustment, not a guarantee.
- Look elsewhere in the lineup if wireless connectivity is a requirement, and assess that separate model’s specifications independently.
- Do not buy on button count alone if your priority is a lightweight-feeling mouse for FPS play or you do not expect to use a dense set of side controls.
For its intended MMO/MOBA role, the RGB ELITE’s strongest reason to exist is the combination of 12 repositionable thumb buttons, programmable controls, and three onboard profiles. Whether that translates into a better fit depends on your thumb’s reach and your willingness to set up those controls.
