The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless remains a strong option if you want adjustable sound and exceptional claimed battery life, and can find it at a meaningful discount. It is less compelling if top-tier noise cancelling, call noise handling, or newer hardware matter most: the newer MOMENTUM 5 adds features including a user-replaceable battery. Sound preference is personal, and the MOMENTUM 4’s value depends on its current price in your region.
What this review can—and cannot—tell you
This assessment draws on Sennheiser’s published specifications and independent reviews; it is not a hands-on listening or battery test. Sennheiser’s specifications describe the product, while performance findings below are attributed to the reviewers who tested it. What stands out about the MOMENTUM 4
Long battery life
Sennheiser claims up to 60 hours of Bluetooth music playback with ANC enabled, tested using an iPhone at mid volume. That is the manufacturer’s stated result under those conditions, not a guarantee of the same runtime for every listener. In its own continuous-playback testing, RTINGS measured 62.3 hours; that independent result is separate from Sennheiser’s claim.
Sound you can adjust
The headphones use 42 mm dynamic transducers. Sennheiser describes their tuning as warm and bass-driven and provides sound personalization and EQ through its app. Independent reviews identify sound as a strength, but there is no universally best tuning: listeners who prefer a different balance can use the EQ, and personal preference should guide a comparison.

Useful wired and wireless connections
The US product listing specifies Bluetooth 5.2 and support for SBC, AAC, and aptX Adaptive. Sennheiser describes wireless hi-res capability and wired hi-res audio over USB-C; the included analog audio cable provides another wired option. The listing also specifies hybrid adaptive ANC and two beamforming microphones per side.
Where it falls short against premium rivals
ANC is not its defining advantage
The MOMENTUM 4 has hybrid adaptive ANC, but independent reviews do not place its noise cancellation at the top of the category. SoundGuys’ January 2023 review described ANC as middling against leading rivals. RTINGS’ comparison work also finds that newer or competing premium headphones can isolate more effectively. If quiet on flights or during a commute is your main requirement, compare noise-cancelling performance directly rather than choosing on battery life alone.
Call performance is a trade-off
Sennheiser lists beamforming microphones and wind-noise features, but the existence of those features does not guarantee the clearest calls in difficult surroundings. SoundGuys flags microphone noise rejection as a weakness. RTINGS says the MOMENTUM 5 handles microphone noise better, so frequent calls in noisy places are a reason to compare newer alternatives.

MOMENTUM 4 vs. MOMENTUM 5 and Sony WH-1000XM6
The MOMENTUM 4 is no longer Sennheiser’s newest model. The manufacturer’s comparison lists Bluetooth 5.4 and a user-replaceable battery for the MOMENTUM 5; RTINGS also notes its Dolby Atmos virtual surround and aptX Lossless features. RTINGS describes the upgrade as marginal overall and says the MOMENTUM 4 may be the better value when discounted. That is a reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee that the older model is the right choice at any particular price.
In RTINGS’ comparison, the Sony WH-1000XM6 outperforms the MOMENTUM 4 in several areas, including noise suppression and its microphone system. RTINGS also notes advantages for the MOMENTUM 4, including adjustable ANC and much longer battery life. These are comparison-test conclusions; which matters more depends on your listening and use.
| What matters to you | MOMENTUM 4 evidence | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| Battery life | Sennheiser claims up to 60 hours with Bluetooth and ANC on, tested with an iPhone at mid volume; RTINGS measured 62.3 hours in its continuous-playback test. | A notable strength if long stretches between charges matter to you. |
| Noise isolation | ANC is included, but SoundGuys and RTINGS do not position it as class-leading. | Compare alternatives if maximum noise reduction is your priority. |
| Calls in noisy settings | Four beamforming microphones are listed; SoundGuys flags noise rejection as a weakness. | Consider testing call performance or comparing the MOMENTUM 5 and other rivals. |
| Newer features | The MOMENTUM 4 uses Bluetooth 5.2 and supports aptX Adaptive. The MOMENTUM 5 adds a user-replaceable battery and newer listed features. | The newer model may suit buyers who value its specific updates; the older one may offer better value at a discount. |
| Sound character | Sennheiser describes a warm, bass-driven tuning and offers app EQ and personalization. | Use your own preferred tuning as the deciding factor; review consensus cannot settle personal taste. |

Sennheiser’s US product page gives inconsistent fast-charge figures: its comparison table says ten minutes provides up to six hours of playback, while its detailed specifications say five minutes provides up to four hours. Because those figures conflict, they are not a dependable basis for a buying decision without checking current documentation.

Who should buy the MOMENTUM 4?
- Consider it if you want long battery life, adjustable sound, and a broad set of wireless and wired options—and the price is substantially below newer alternatives.
- Compare before buying if class-leading ANC, better microphone noise handling, or newer hardware is more important than battery life or a discounted price.
- Choose by listening preference when possible: the warm, bass-driven tuning is adjustable, but EQ cannot make one headphone the right fit for every taste.
What independent reviews say
RTINGS’ review page was updated June 23, 2026, to Test Bench 2.3. It reports that its first test unit could not hold a charge and that it replaced that unit with a functioning second sample. That is an account of RTINGS’ own sample experience, not evidence of a general defect rate.
SoundGuys gave the headphones 8.0/10 in its January 2023 review, praising sound and battery life while identifying middling ANC and microphone noise rejection as drawbacks. The score reflects SoundGuys’ assessment at that time; its older review is useful as a broad view, not as evidence of current pricing or the latest model comparisons.
Verdict
The MOMENTUM 4 still makes sense in 2026 as a discounted, feature-rich wireless headphone for someone who values battery endurance and sound customization more than best-in-class noise cancellation or calls. The MOMENTUM 5 and other premium rivals deserve a closer look if their newer features or stronger isolation better match your priorities. Check the exact version, seller, and current local price before deciding; an old sale listing is not evidence of today’s price.
