Short answer: CoreWeave is usually the easiest provider to price for a GPU-first training cluster, while AWS is the stronger fit when you need tightly integrated storage, networking, identity and managed services around large distributed jobs. Google Cloud is a serious alternative when its TPU catalog, accelerator locations, Spot capacity or reservation model matches your workload, but a fair price comparison requires a specific machine, region and discount model because there is no single published H100 rate to compare.
Do not choose from the GPU hourly number alone. The winning platform is the one that completes your exact training run fastest and most reliably after GPU time, checkpoint storage, data movement, interruptions, engineering effort and support are included.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The practical implication is a narrower but more focused operating model than a general-purpose cloud. You can evaluate the GPU node, storage path and network as one AI-oriented stack instead of assembling every layer from a large catalog. That can reduce setup work for a team whose main requirement is distributed GPU time, but you still need to verify Kubernetes, identity, observability, data residency and support requirements against your own environment.
CoreWeave’s listed North America rates
The following rates are the North America prices shown in CoreWeave’s pricing table at the time checked. They are region-specific and can change. Each row describes an eight-GPU system, not a single accelerator.
| System | GPU memory | On-demand rate | Spot rate | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA HGX H100 | 8 GPUs, 80 GB each | $49.24/hour | $19.71/hour | Spot can be interrupted |
| NVIDIA HGX H200 | 8 GPUs, 141 GB each | $50.44/hour | $20.93/hour | Spot can be interrupted |
| NVIDIA A100 | 8 GPUs, 80 GB each | $21.60/hour | $9.65/hour | Spot can be interrupted |
| NVIDIA HGX B200 | 8 GPUs | $68.80/hour | $34.11/hour | Spot can be interrupted |
On-demand capacity is the simpler baseline for a time-sensitive run: the rate is higher, but an unexpected eviction is less likely to invalidate the job schedule. Spot capacity can be attractive for fault-tolerant training, hyperparameter sweeps and queued experiments. Its real cost is not the displayed hourly rate; include lost work, restart time, checkpoint writes, retained storage and any data-transfer charges.

What AWS P5, P5e and P5en add
AWS P5 instances provide up to eight NVIDIA H100 GPUs. P5e and P5en provide eight H200 GPUs. AWS documents up to 3,200 Gbps of Elastic Fabric Adapter networking and 900 GB/s of NVSwitch GPU interconnect for the eight-GPU configurations. P5 systems support up to 640 GB of HBM3 across eight H100 GPUs; P5e and P5en support up to 1,128 GB of HBM3e across eight H200 GPUs.
Those specifications matter when the model is communication-bound. Data parallelism, tensor parallelism and pipeline parallelism all exchange gradients or activations. A node with fast GPU-to-GPU links can spend less time waiting at synchronization points, but the result still depends on topology, collective-communication libraries, batch size, sequence length and the number of nodes.
AWS ecosystem integration
AWS documents integration with SageMaker HyperPod, Amazon EKS and Amazon ECS, as well as FSx for Lustre and Amazon S3. That gives an existing AWS team familiar options for cluster orchestration, durable data, high-throughput training filesystems, access control and experiment operations. The benefit is greatest when your data lake, security policies, logging and deployment process already live in AWS.

AWS states that P5, P5e and P5en can train large generative AI models at scale and deliver up to four times the performance of previous-generation GPU-based EC2 instances. This is an AWS claim, and its comparison baseline is previous-generation GPU EC2 instances; it is not an independent, apples-to-apples result against CoreWeave or Google Cloud. Treat it as a platform-generation statement, then benchmark your own workload.

What AWS pricing requires you to specify
AWS does not provide one universal H100 hourly number in the material reviewed. A meaningful quote requires at least the region, P5/P5e/P5en type, purchasing option, operating-system or software assumptions and expected runtime. Add EFA-related networking, attached or shared storage, S3 requests and transfer, observability, support and any cluster-management services to the GPU estimate.
What Google Cloud changes in the decision
Google Cloud’s Compute Engine documentation covers accelerator-optimized machine families, NVIDIA GPUs, TPUs, accelerator locations, Spot VMs, reservation-bound consumption and HPC cluster management. This breadth can be valuable if your model is a good TPU candidate, if a particular NVIDIA accelerator is available near your data, or if reservations provide the capacity certainty your schedule needs.
The reviewed documentation does not expose a single H100 hourly price that can be compared directly with CoreWeave’s North America table. Google pricing depends on machine type, region, commitment or reservation, Spot status and attached resources. Any claim that Google is categorically cheaper or more expensive than CoreWeave would therefore be misleading without a defined configuration and a current calculator result.
When Google Cloud deserves a test
- Your training code already supports TPUs or you are willing to evaluate the required compiler and framework path.
- A required GPU or TPU is available in the location where your data and users must remain.
- You can use Spot VMs for restart-safe jobs or reservations for a predictable training calendar.
- Your team values HPC cluster-management tools and wants accelerator choice beyond one GPU vendor’s node format.
Price is only one part of training cost
Use a complete cost model for every provider. A simple GPU-only comparison can select a node that looks inexpensive but finishes later, writes more checkpoints, loses more work to interruption or requires more engineering time.

The effective-cost formula
For a run, calculate:
Total cost = compute time + CPU and system memory + training storage + checkpoint and dataset I/O + network transfer and egress + support and platform charges + engineering labor caused by the platform.

Then divide by useful progress, such as tokens processed, samples completed or a validated checkpoint. For interrupted jobs, include the time spent recomputing work after the last durable checkpoint. A lower spot rate is beneficial only when its savings exceed those recovery costs.
Illustrative CoreWeave arithmetic
At the listed North America on-demand rate, 100 hours on an eight-H100 node would be 100 × $49.24, or $4,924 before storage, transfer and other charges. The same nominal 100 hours at the listed spot rate would be 100 × $19.71, or $1,971, but that is not a guaranteed 100 hours of uninterrupted progress. If an interruption forces 12 hours of recomputation, those additional hours must be valued at the applicable rate and added to the checkpoint and storage bill.
Apply the same worksheet to AWS and Google Cloud using current regional quotes. Do not compare a CoreWeave on-demand figure with an AWS Spot or Google reservation figure and call the result a provider ranking; those are different reliability and commitment products.
Throughput: benchmark the workload, not the logo
For language-model pretraining, record tokens per second, time to a fixed token target, scaling efficiency as nodes are added, GPU utilization, memory pressure and time spent in communication. For vision, speech or recommendation workloads, use samples per second, step time and validation progress. Record time-to-checkpoint and time-to-restart as separate measurements.
CoreWeave case-study claims
CoreWeave’s homepage presents customer case studies claiming three-times-faster training for Cohere, 2.5-times-faster training for Mistral AI and storage throughput of up to 7 GB/s per GPU for Cohere North. These are CoreWeave-published claims. The reviewed material does not define a common benchmark, workload, software stack or baseline that would support applying those multipliers to every model. Use them as reasons to test the platform, not as a guaranteed speed advantage.
A repeatable benchmark procedure
- Freeze the software. Use the same framework, CUDA and driver versions, compiler settings, precision mode, data loader and communication library on every provider.
- Use identical data. Place the same shard layout in each provider’s high-throughput storage path and measure the time needed to stage and read it.
- Warm up before measuring. Exclude image pulls, package installation and one-time cache creation from steady-state throughput, but record those setup times separately because they affect short jobs.
- Run a fixed workload. Choose a token, sample or step target large enough to expose communication and storage behavior. Keep global batch size and sequence length constant.
- Test one node and multiple nodes. Measure scaling efficiency, collective-operation time and failure behavior as the cluster grows.
- Force a recovery test. Stop a worker after a checkpoint, recreate it and measure how long the job takes to resume and reach the previous throughput.
- Repeat at the intended purchase mode. On-demand, reservation and Spot capacity can have different startup and interruption characteristics, so test the mode you will actually use.
Networking and storage can decide distributed-training performance
GPU memory capacity determines whether a model fits without aggressive sharding, but interconnect and storage determine how efficiently the GPUs stay busy. Inspect GPU-to-GPU topology within a node, the host-to-host fabric across nodes, RDMA or equivalent support, collective-library compatibility, filesystem bandwidth and metadata performance.

A training job that streams data from object storage for every batch may be limited by network or request latency even when the GPU node is powerful. A job that writes frequent checkpoints can be limited by filesystem throughput. Measure data staging, sustained reads, checkpoint write duration and the time to restore a checkpoint, rather than relying on a provider’s peak figure.
AWS publishes the clearest fabric figures in the reviewed material: up to 3,200 Gbps EFA and 900 GB/s NVSwitch for the relevant eight-GPU configurations. CoreWeave and Google Cloud should be evaluated with the equivalent topology and scaling measurements for the exact machine you receive; a headline network number is not comparable unless the protocol, direction, topology and workload are the same.
Capacity, scheduling and reliability
Capacity planning questions
- How many nodes are available in the required region today, and what lead time applies to a larger allocation?
- Is the capacity on-demand, reservation-bound, committed or interruptible?
- Can all nodes be placed in the same low-latency fabric domain?
- What quota process, minimum term or approval is required for a production-sized cluster?
- What happens when one GPU, host or network path fails during a multi-day run?
Capacity is a performance feature. A theoretical cluster that cannot be scheduled together is less useful than a slightly slower cluster that starts when your training window opens. Ask each provider for a written capacity commitment and the conditions under which it can change.
Checkpointing for Spot or preemptible capacity
Choose a checkpoint interval based on the cost of lost computation, not a generic timer. If a step takes 0.8 seconds and a checkpoint takes 90 seconds, checkpointing every few minutes may waste too much throughput; if a step takes several seconds and the job runs for days, a longer interval may lose substantial work. Measure checkpoint duration on the target filesystem and retain at least one checkpoint outside the interruptible compute pool.
Make restart automation idempotent: record the exact model revision, optimizer state, data-shard position, random seeds and software image. A restart that restores only model weights can silently change the training trajectory or repeat data.

Platform integration and governance
Compare how each provider handles identity, secrets, network isolation, audit logs, container registries, Kubernetes, experiment tracking and observability. A platform that saves a day on cluster setup but requires a custom security exception may cost more than a familiar environment.

For regulated or geographically constrained data, verify the actual region, residency controls, encryption options, key-management integration, administrator access model, retention policy and contract language. Do not infer compliance or residency from a provider’s global footprint. Confirm where datasets, checkpoints, logs and support artifacts are stored.
Which provider fits common training scenarios?
Choose CoreWeave first when transparent GPU pricing is decisive
Start with CoreWeave when your team wants a GPU-specialized environment, can use the listed accelerator types and benefits from a clearly published North America rate. It is particularly worth testing for batch experiments, fine-tuning fleets and teams that can automate checkpointing and tolerate Spot interruptions. Validate regional capacity, storage performance and the operational tools your organization requires.
Choose AWS first when the surrounding cloud platform matters most
Start with AWS when your data, identity, deployment and monitoring already use AWS services, or when the documented P5 networking and memory configuration matches a large distributed model. SageMaker HyperPod, EKS, ECS, FSx for Lustre and S3 can reduce integration work. Obtain a complete quote before concluding that the GPU is cost-effective.

Start with Google Cloud when TPU evaluation, a particular accelerator location, Spot VMs, reservation-bound consumption or HPC cluster management is a primary requirement. Build a concrete machine-and-region quote and benchmark it against the same CoreWeave and AWS workload; the broad catalog alone does not establish lower cost or higher throughput.
A practical selection scorecard
Score each candidate against the job you actually intend to run. Weight the categories according to your constraints rather than assigning every category equal importance.
| Category | Evidence to collect | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Effective throughput | Tokens or samples per second, time-to-target, scaling efficiency and checkpoint time | Determines how quickly useful training completes |
| Scale-out fabric | GPU topology, EFA/RDMA/InfiniBand or equivalent, collective-operation time | Controls communication overhead in multi-node jobs |
| Capacity | Quota, lead time, node placement and reservation terms | Determines whether the planned run can start together |
| Total cost | GPU, CPU, storage, I/O, egress, support and engineering hours | Prevents a misleading GPU-only ranking |
| Platform integration | Identity, Kubernetes, managed training, data lake and observability support | Changes setup and operating effort |
| Reliability and recovery | Failure behavior, interruption notice, checkpoint restore and support response | Protects long-running jobs from expensive rework |
| Governance | Region, residency, encryption, access controls and contract obligations | Can disqualify an otherwise fast or inexpensive option |
Common comparison mistakes
- Comparing unlike billing modes: an on-demand node, a reservation and a Spot VM have different availability and interruption risks.
- Comparing a node with a GPU: the published CoreWeave figures are for eight-GPU systems; make AWS and Google calculations use the same GPU count and memory target.
- Ignoring non-GPU charges: storage, data transfer, checkpoint I/O, support and idle CPU hosts can materially change the bill.
- Assuming a vendor case study generalizes: customer speedups depend on model, software, baseline and measurement method.
- Benchmarking only a short single-node run: distributed communication, capacity and recovery behavior often appear only in longer multi-node tests.
- Forgetting data movement: moving a large dataset or checkpoint across regions can erase an apparent compute saving.
- Skipping restart automation: an inexpensive interruptible fleet is not economical if operators must manually rebuild every failed run.
Recommended evaluation sequence
- Define the target model, precision, global batch size, sequence length, token or sample budget and acceptable completion date.
- Select equivalent eight-GPU or multi-node configurations with enough aggregate memory for the model and optimizer state.
- Request current regional quotes for CoreWeave, AWS and Google Cloud, specifying on-demand, Spot, reservation or commitment assumptions.
- Run the fixed benchmark and recovery test, recording throughput, scaling, storage and restart metrics.
- Calculate total cost per completed token, sample or validated checkpoint, including failed and repeated work.
- Confirm capacity, governance, support and integration requirements in writing before production scheduling.
- Use the cheapest option only if it meets the completion-time, reliability and compliance thresholds established in step one.
Bottom line for an AI-training team
CoreWeave is the clearest starting point when you want published GPU rates and a specialized AI cloud. AWS is the strongest all-around choice when P5 networking, H100/H200 memory and deep integration with existing AWS data and orchestration services outweigh a simple sticker-price comparison. Google Cloud belongs in the shortlist when TPUs, accelerator location, Spot capacity or reservations fit the workload, but its price must be calculated for the exact machine and region.
The defensible final choice comes from a controlled benchmark and a complete cost model. Measure useful training progress, communication, checkpoint recovery and capacity—not just the hourly GPU number—and the provider decision will reflect the job you need to finish rather than a marketing headline.
