Convenia’s PHP Full Docker image announcement describes multi-architecture tags for `linux/amd64` and `linux/arm64`, plus a separate `convenia/php-full:8.5-dev` image with development tools. The announcement lists the tags and example workflows; check the live image manifest and repository before relying on its availability or build and update processes.
What changed in Convenia’s PHP Full image
In its DEV Community announcement, authored by Leonardo Lemos, Convenia says its PHP Full image now supports ARM and has a development variant for PHP 8.5. The announcement does not identify the year of its October 2 publication, so its availability details should be treated as claims made at that time, not as confirmation of the current registry state.

Tags and architectures
Convenia lists the tags `8.1`, `8.2`, `8.3`, `8.4`, `8.5`, and `latest` as published for both `linux/amd64` and `linux/arm64`. The publisher says Docker automatically selects the suitable architecture when pulling an image. That behavior depends on the published manifest; verify the tags and platforms in the registry before adopting them.
The PHP 8.5 development tag
The announcement describes `convenia/php-full:8.5-dev` as a PHP 8.5-only development image. It says this variant builds on the production image and adds pcov, Infection, Redocly CLI, nvm with Node LTS, npm, yarn, bash, vim, and sudo. It does not provide image-size figures or a comparison of the development and production images’ security characteristics.

How to try the development image locally
The announcement’s Docker Compose example switches the application service to the development tag, mounts the project at `/var/www/app`, and opens a shell in the running service:
services:

volumes:

Convenia’s post illustrates using the development image for Composer installation, PHPUnit coverage, and Infection. The commands below reflect that example; adjust the project scripts and configuration to match your repository.

The announcement also says a project can use nvm in the development image to install another Node version. Select and verify the Node version your project requires rather than assuming the bundled Node LTS matches it.
When to use each tag
- Production tags: use a PHP version tag such as `8.5` (or `latest`, if your deployment intentionally tracks the moving tag) when you want the corresponding image without the development-only tools described for `8.5-dev`.
- Development tag: use `8.5-dev` when the project needs the additional testing, documentation, Node, or interactive shell tools. The post only describes this development variant for PHP 8.5.
- ARM deployment: Convenia names AWS Graviton as an example of ARM infrastructure. The announcement does not compare cloud providers, prices, or performance; confirm the image’s ARM manifest and validate your application on the target platform.
Builds, tests, and image updates
Convenia says it moved builds from Docker Hub autobuild to GitHub Actions, runs tests before publication, and continues weekly Saturday rebuilds to collect base-image security updates. These are operational claims in the announcement, not guarantees independently confirmed here. Check the current project repository and image publication history for the workflow, test status, and most recent rebuild before treating them as current.

Adding a missing package
The post suggests using `sudo apk add` inside the development container for a missing package. That is a container-level installation, so it may not persist when the container is replaced. For a repeatable development or CI environment, document the required package in the project’s image build or setup process and confirm the package manager and package name for the current image.
