To connect a Fire TV Stick to a Samsung Smart TV, plug it into an available HDMI port, connect power as directed for your Stick model, and select that same HDMI input on the TV. Then follow the Fire TV prompts to connect to Wi-Fi and sign in to or register an Amazon account.
Connect the Fire TV Stick and complete setup
- Plug the Stick into HDMI. Insert it into an available HDMI port on the Samsung TV and note the port number or label.
- Connect the power. Follow the instructions for your specific Fire TV Stick model and its included accessories. Amazon’s standard setup uses the supplied power adapter and USB cable; it advises against powering the Stick from the TV’s USB port. Power arrangements and included accessories can differ across generations. See Amazon’s Fire TV Stick setup instructions.
- Select the matching HDMI input on the TV. Use the Samsung remote to open Source and choose the port the Stick is plugged into. Depending on the Samsung model and remote, the path may instead be Home, then Connected Devices. Samsung says menu behavior can vary by model and country. See Samsung’s device-connection guidance and Samsung’s source-selection instructions.
- Finish on-screen setup. When the Fire TV screen appears, connect to Wi-Fi and sign in to or register an Amazon account when prompted.
You do not need a special converter or a new TV if the Samsung set has an available compatible HDMI input. An HDMI extender is optional, not part of the basic connection requirement.

If the Fire TV Stick does not appear on screen
No picture or “no signal”
- Check that the Stick is receiving power.
- Confirm the TV is set to the exact HDMI port the Stick uses. Open Source or Connected Devices and select it manually if needed.
The Stick is difficult to plug in
If the TV’s port is awkward to reach or there is too little clearance, try the HDMI extender if one came with the Stick. Amazon describes it as optional and useful when the Stick is difficult to connect directly. Check the package before buying a separate short HDMI extension cable.

A power warning appears or the Stick shuts down
Recheck the power connections against the directions for your exact Fire TV Stick model. Do not assume that power guidance for one generation applies to every model; Amazon’s standard setup specifies the supplied adapter, while model-specific instructions may differ.

The picture appears, but setup will not finish
Complete the Wi-Fi connection and Amazon account sign-in or registration requested during setup. Both are part of the initial setup process.
Can you use the Samsung remote with the Fire TV Stick?
Sometimes. Samsung describes universal-remote control for supported streaming-device setups connected through the TV’s HDMI ARC port. Whether it works depends on the TV and configuration; it is not required to get started. For basic setup, select the correct HDMI source and use the Fire TV remote.
