To set up a Concatenation server, install the ReversTeam pack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 on Forge, obtain the server archive that matches that exact pack release, and use the same files on every player’s client. The maintainer documents concatenation-server-1.2.2.zip as a server option, while the Technic listing shows a newer 1.5.x release, so confirm the archive and release number before you deploy anything.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
You can run the server on your own Windows, Linux, or macOS computer, or use managed hosting. In either case, allow the server to generate eula.txt, change eula=false to eula=true, start it again, and configure a tunnel or router port forwarding for friends outside your local network. Plan on 4–12 GB of memory for the pack, then adjust graphics, shaders, and view distance if the host or players have less headroom.

What you are setting up
Concatenation is a ReversTeam modpack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 that uses Forge and offers four starting pathways, from technology to magic, within a branching questline. A server is not a second copy of the launcher profile: it is a Forge runtime containing the pack’s server-compatible mods, configuration, and assets. Every player joining it must run the matching Minecraft version, Forge loader, Concatenation release, and multiplayer files.
The name is easy to misread. A separate Modrinth project also uses Concatenation but identifies itself as a Fabric pack. Select the ReversTeam project and verify the loader before downloading. A Fabric client cannot join a Forge server simply because both projects display the same pack name.

Check the release before downloading anything
Verify the project identity
- Open the ReversTeam project or its launcher entry rather than searching by the word Concatenation alone.
- Confirm Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge are shown in the project details.
- Record the pack release number you intend to use. Give that number to every player and use it when looking for a server archive.
Resolve the server-file version discrepancy
The maintainer README names concatenation-server-1.2.2.zip as an optional server installation file. The Technic page reports a newer 1.5.x update. Those references may describe different releases, so do not rename a 1.2.2 archive and assume it is suitable for 1.5.x. Download the server file only when its release matches the client profile you selected, and keep the archive name and release notes with your installation records.
If no matching server archive is available, use the manual Forge procedure below. Do not combine a server folder from one release with the mods or configuration from another; mismatched registries commonly produce missing-mod errors, rejected connections, or a world that cannot load.
Hardware and software requirements
Memory
ReversTeam and Technic recommend 4–12 GB of RAM, depending on the computer and the rest of the system. Treat that as a starting range, not a promise that every machine needs 12 GB. A small private world can begin near the lower end, while several players, large exploration areas, or heavy automation can require more headroom. Leave memory for the operating system and other applications; assigning all physical RAM to Java can make the host slower rather than faster.
Players also need enough memory for their clients. If the client stutters, reduce render distance and simulation distance, disable shaders, and close other applications before increasing the server allocation. A client-side graphics problem is not fixed by giving the server more RAM.

Java and operating system
The available release information does not specify a universal Java major version for the current Concatenation build. Use the Java requirement displayed by the selected pack or Forge installer for that release, and make sure the command used by the server points to that Java installation. Do not copy a Java version from an unrelated modpack guide.
Use a clean, dedicated server directory with enough free disk space for the initial files, generated world, logs, and backups. The exact world size depends on exploration, so monitor free space rather than relying on a fixed number.
Choose where the server will run
| Option | Control | Setup work | Network exposure | When it fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Self-hosted PC | Full access to files, Java arguments, mods, configs, and worlds | You install Forge, assemble files, update them, and troubleshoot the operating system | You normally configure router port forwarding or a tunnel for remote players | A small group that has a reliable computer and is comfortable maintaining it |
| Managed host | Control depends on the provider’s panel and file access | The panel may offer a one-click Concatenation option; you still must choose the exact release and review files | The provider handles the public endpoint; you configure access in its panel | A group that wants the server online without keeping a home computer running |
Compare control over files and configuration, available RAM and CPU, storage limits, backups and rollback, network work, and recurring cost. A one-click installer is useful only if it installs the same Forge release and pack version your players use. Ask the host how it identifies Concatenation releases and whether you can upload a matching server archive when the catalog lags behind the maintainer.
Install the client pack first
Using a compatible launcher
Install the pack through a launcher that lists the ReversTeam project, such as CurseForge or Technic. The Technic workflow is:
Rank #3
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
- Install and open the Technic Launcher.
- Search for Concatenation.
- Select the ReversTeam pack entry after checking that it says Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Click Install and wait for the launcher to finish downloading the instance.
- Open the instance settings and allocate memory within the 4–12 GB recommendation, leaving the host operating system enough RAM.
- Launch once in single-player. This confirms that the client profile, Forge loader, and pack files work before you add a server to the equation.
Write down the displayed pack version and Forge version. Screenshots of the launcher profile are useful when several people are installing at different times.
Do not mix launcher profiles
Do not copy a Fabric profile from the same-name Modrinth project into a Forge instance. Do not add extra mods while diagnosing a connection problem. First reproduce the unmodified ReversTeam profile, then make any additions only after the group has a working baseline.

Install the matching server archive
Preferred method: the maintainer’s server pack
- Find the server archive associated with the exact client release. For the release documented in the README, the filename is
concatenation-server-1.2.2.zip. - Download it from the same ReversTeam release channel used to identify the client pack. Verify the release label rather than relying on the filename alone.
- Create a new, empty directory dedicated to the server. Avoid extracting into your client’s
.minecraftfolder. - Extract the archive into that directory and inspect the supplied start script, Forge files, mods, configuration, and assets.
- Read any release-specific notes in the archive before changing settings. Keep the original zip as a recovery copy.
If the client profile is the newer 1.5.x listing shown by Technic, stop and locate a server archive explicitly marked for that release. The README’s 1.2.2 filename is not evidence that it supports every later build.
Build a server manually when no matching archive exists
A manual installation is a fallback, not a way to make incompatible releases work together. The Forge installer must match the Minecraft and Forge versions used by the client pack.
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
- Create a fresh server folder, for example a directory named for the Concatenation release. Keep it separate from previous worlds so you can roll back safely.
- Download the Forge installer that matches Minecraft 1.20.1 and the selected Concatenation client profile.
- Run the installer and choose Install server, selecting the new server folder.
- Copy the pack’s
mods, config, and any mod-specific asset directories from a known-good client instance into the server folder. - Remove client-only mods and their corresponding configuration entries. Rendering, menu, shader, and other strictly client-side components do not belong in a dedicated server. If a mod’s documentation does not clearly identify its side, test it in a copy of the folder and read the startup log before inviting players.
- Use the run script supplied by Forge or the pack. If you create one yourself, Technic’s example is
java -Xmx4G forge.jar nogui; change the memory value to suit the machine and use the actual Forge jar filename in your directory. - Start the server once, then stop it cleanly after it creates its initial files. Do not delete generated files while the Java process is running.
Forge can generate a different jar name or use a launcher script depending on the installer release. Open the supplied script and confirm that it references the file that actually exists instead of blindly typing forge.jar.
Accept the EULA and complete the first boot
- Run the start script from the server directory. The first run normally stops after creating
eula.txtand other configuration files. - Open
eula.txtin a text editor. - Change
eula=falsetoeula=true, save the file, and close the editor. - Run the start script again and watch the console until Forge finishes loading and the server reports that it is ready for connections.
- Stop the server with the console’s normal stop command before editing mods, configs, or world files.
Never edit files in the middle of a save. A clean shutdown reduces the chance of a damaged world and gives you a complete log when troubleshooting.
Make the server reachable
Players on the same local network
Players connected to the host’s local Wi-Fi or wired network can usually connect using the host computer’s local address and the server port configured in the server settings. The host’s firewall must allow the Java process or the selected port on the private network profile.
Players outside the home network
Remote friends cannot normally reach a computer hidden behind a home router without an additional network step. Configure router port forwarding to the server computer, or use a port-tunneling service. After changing the router or tunnel configuration, restart the server if the service requires it and give players the external address and port supplied by that configuration.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Forward only the server port, protect the host account with a strong password, and keep the operating system and Java installation updated. Do not publish your home network details in a public chat. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, router forwarding may not work; a tunnel or a host with a public endpoint is then the practical alternative.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Connect the first player and verify the files
- Start the server and wait for the ready message.
- Launch the ReversTeam Concatenation client on the same Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge release as the server.
- Use the multiplayer screen to add the server address supplied by the host. A local player uses the host’s local address; a remote player uses the forwarded or tunneled address.
- Join with one test player before inviting the entire group. Watch the server console for registry, missing-mod, or authentication errors.
- Once the test succeeds, have every player install the identical pack release and Forge version. A player who updates early can be rejected even when the pack name is unchanged.
Do not solve a mismatch by removing random mods from only one client. The server and clients must agree on the mods and registries that affect gameplay. Keep a copy of the working instance profile so a launcher update cannot silently change the group’s baseline.
Tune performance without masking errors
Server-side adjustments
- Begin with a memory allocation inside the 4–12 GB recommendation and observe actual usage in the console or operating-system monitor.
- Reduce view or simulation distance if CPU load and tick delays rise as players explore.
- Run the server on a wired connection when possible and avoid heavy downloads on the same machine during play.
- Keep the world and configuration on local storage with adequate free space. Stop the server before copying a world for backup.
Client-side adjustments
- Disable shaders first when frame rate is poor.
- Lower render distance, particles, and other graphics settings before changing the server allocation.
- Close browsers, recording tools, and other memory-heavy applications on low-memory systems.
Performance changes do not repair a failed Forge load. Fix version and mod errors first, then tune distances and graphics after the server reaches a stable ready state.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The launcher cannot find the expected pack | You selected a same-name Fabric project or a different maintainer | Return to the ReversTeam entry and verify Minecraft 1.20.1 plus Forge before installing. |
| Forge reports missing or different mods | Client and server releases, loaders, or mod folders do not match | Compare the recorded pack and Forge versions, then reinstall from one matching server archive instead of copying individual files at random. |
| The server stops immediately and mentions the EULA | eula.txt still contains eula=false |
Stop the process, set the value to true, save, and start again. |
| Startup fails after copying the client folder | One or more client-only mods or configurations were copied to the server | Remove client-only components, restore the clean server folder, and add only files confirmed to run on the server. |
| Players on the same network cannot join | Wrong local address, host firewall rule, or server not fully started | Wait for the ready message, confirm the local address, and allow Java or the server port through the private-network firewall. |
| Remote players time out while local players can join | Missing port forwarding, tunnel configuration, or carrier-grade NAT | Recheck the forwarding target and tunnel status; use a tunnel or managed host when the router cannot receive inbound connections. |
| The host becomes unresponsive during play | Too little free memory or excessive CPU/storage pressure | Close other applications, lower distances, and adjust Java memory within the available physical RAM rather than assigning all RAM to the server. |
| A player is rejected even though the server is online | The player’s launcher silently updated the pack or Forge profile | Compare the player’s displayed versions with the host’s recorded baseline and reinstall the exact release. |
Keep the complete server log from the failed start. The first error that names a mod, loader, or Java class is usually more useful than the final shutdown line.
Backups, updates, and safe maintenance
Back up before every change
Stop the server, copy the world folder, and preserve the mods, config, and server settings before updating. Label each backup with the Minecraft version, Forge version, Concatenation release, and date. Test that you can open the backup copy before deleting older recovery points.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUpdate as a coordinated group
- Read the release notes for the new pack and identify its server archive.
- Make a complete backup of the current world and working server folder.
- Install the new server in a separate directory and test it with a copy of the world.
- Install the same client release on a test account and connect locally.
- Only after the test succeeds, announce a maintenance window and have every player update.
Keep the old server directory until the group has played successfully on the new release. The README’s 1.2.2 server filename and the Technic 1.5.x listing demonstrate why release labels must be checked rather than inferred.
Self-hosting or managed hosting: a practical decision
Self-hosting gives you direct control of every file, Java argument, backup, and network rule, but you are responsible for uptime, operating-system updates, port forwarding, and recovery. Managed hosting reduces the home-network work and may provide an installer, scheduled backups, and a control panel, but you must verify that the provider’s catalog contains the exact Concatenation release and that you can upload or edit Forge files when it does not.
Quick Recap
- Choose self-hosting when you already have a reliable computer, can leave it running, and want unrestricted access to the server folder.
- Choose managed hosting when remote access, backups, or continuous uptime matter more than having complete control of the underlying machine.
- In either case, retain your own world backups. A provider’s backup history is useful, but it should not be the only copy of a world your group values.
Final pre-launch checklist
- ReversTeam Concatenation is selected, not the same-name Fabric project.
- Minecraft is 1.20.1 and the loader is Forge on both sides.
- The client and server release numbers match.
- The server archive is confirmed for that release;
concatenation-server-1.2.2.zipis used only where the release label agrees. - Server memory is planned within the 4–12 GB recommendation and leaves room for the operating system.
- Client-only mods are removed from a manually assembled server.
- The first boot generated
eula.txt, andeula=truewas accepted before normal startup. - A local test connection works before remote players are invited.
- Port forwarding or a tunnel is configured for players outside the local network.
- A clean backup exists before the first public session and before every update.
