DurabilityMultiplier controls how much durability damage equipment receives when it is used or damaged. Values below 1.0 reduce wear and make affected gear last longer; values above 1.0 increase wear. A documented example uses 1.0 as 10 durability lost per hit, 0.5 as 5, 1.5 as 15, and 0 as no durability loss for covered weapons and tools.

Those figures illustrate the setting’s direction, not a universal formula for every item. A long-standing implementation bug can also leave tools or armor responding differently from weapons and shields. Treat the multiplier as a server-wide rule to test on your own platform, patch level, and mod list.

Funcom’s technical description says the setting “modifies the amount of durability damage that an item takes when used or damaged.” In practical terms, the game applies a multiplier to durability wear rather than changing an item’s displayed maximum durability. The item still has the same nominal durability pool, but each qualifying use or hit consumes more or less of it.
A lower number reduces maintenance pressure. A higher number makes weapons, shields, tools, or other affected equipment require repairs or replacement sooner. The setting does not add durability points, improve damage, increase gathering yield, or change repair-kit rules.

How to read the number
- Below 1.0: less durability damage than the documented baseline, so affected items last longer.
- Exactly 1.0: the documented default example.
- Above 1.0: more durability damage, increasing repair and replacement frequency.
- 0: intended to remove durability loss for the equipment categories that actually respond on that server.
The multiplier is not a promise that every item loses the same number of points on every attack. Damage can vary by item, action, target, and game implementation. Use the published examples to understand the direction of the setting, then verify the result in your own save.

The 5, 10, and 15-point figures come from the maintained Conan Exiles configuration reference’s examples. They should not be read as a universal per-hit law for every weapon, shield, tool, armor piece, platform, or mod combination. The reference does not publish a complete current formula covering all of those cases.
Should you set it above or below 1?
Choose below 1 for a lower-maintenance world
Use a value such as 0.5 when you want equipment to last about twice as long according to the documented example rate, without eliminating durability as a game mechanic. This suits cooperative servers where players spend less time farming repair materials but still have a reason to watch equipment condition.
A value near zero makes durability largely irrelevant for the categories affected by the setting. That can be useful for building-focused or test servers, but it removes the resource and preparation decisions created by normal wear.
Keep 1.0 for the reference behavior
1.0 is the documented default example and is the clearest comparison point for testing. If you are diagnosing a server, return to 1.0, record how quickly a known item loses condition, and then test one alternate value.

Use above 1 for a harsher ruleset
Values such as 1.5 increase the example wear rate and make repairs more important. This can reinforce survival progression, make spare weapons valuable, or increase the cost of long expeditions. It also raises the chance that players will interpret an item as broken when the real cause is simply accelerated wear.

Which items actually respond?
The intended description covers items used or damaged, and practical examples commonly discuss weapons, tools, shields, and armor. However, the maintained configuration reference records a long-standing bug in which DurabilityMultiplier may affect only weapons and shields, including truncheons. Tools and armor can remain on their normal behavior even when the setting is changed.
That limitation means a setting of 0 must not be advertised as making every item indestructible. A server may show unbreakable swords while pickaxes, hatchets, or armor continue to lose condition. The exact result can depend on the game platform, patch, server type, and installed mods.
A reliable verification test
- Choose one weapon or shield, one tool, and one armor piece with visible durability.
- Record each item’s starting durability and keep the test conditions consistent.
- Test at
1.0for a fixed number of hits or uses. - Change the multiplier to the value you want, restart or reload the server as required, and repeat the same actions.
- Compare each category separately. Do not infer tool or armor behavior from a weapon test.
Testing a truncheon separately is worthwhile because shields and truncheons are specifically included among the equipment that may continue to respond while other categories do not.
Where to change DurabilityMultiplier
In-game server settings
On an administered private server, open the server settings menu and locate the durability option. Funcom’s private-server guidance identifies the menu as a supported place to change durability rules. Select the desired value, save the settings, and restart or reload the session if the menu indicates that a restart is needed.

Menu labels can vary by platform or game version. If you cannot find a durability entry, use the configuration-file method or check whether your host exposes only a limited subset of server options.
Dedicated-server configuration file
For a dedicated Windows server, the server settings file is:
ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini- Stop the server before editing its configuration.
- Make a backup copy of
ServerSettings.iniso you can restore the previous rules. - Open the file in a plain-text editor.
- Find the existing durability setting, or add the setting using the exact key name
DurabilityMultiplier. - Enter the numeric value you want, save the file, and start the server.
- Run the category-by-category test rather than assuming that the new value affected every item.
Do not edit a similarly named local or client file by mistake. Funcom’s dedicated-server guide identifies the WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini path as the server-settings location. A hosting control panel may present this file through its own editor, but the underlying setting remains server-side.
Why a value of zero may not stop all durability loss
The setting may not cover that item
The most important explanation is the documented bug: the multiplier may apply to weapons and shields but not to tools or armor. If a pickaxe still loses durability at 0, that behavior is consistent with the known limitation rather than proof that the file was ignored.
The server may not have loaded the change
Editing a file while the server is running can be overwritten when the process closes. Stop the server first, save the file, and restart it. Confirm that the value remains present after shutdown; if it disappears, the host panel or startup process may be regenerating the file.

A mod or later patch may change behavior
Mods can correct the category limitation or introduce their own durability logic. A later patch can also alter implementation without changing the name of the setting. Test with the same mod list and patch on which the players actually connect.
You may be observing a different mechanic
Durability damage from combat or gathering is separate from repair-kit effects. A repair kit can restore condition while permanently lowering the item’s maximum durability, so a player may see the maximum value change even when the multiplier is working as intended.

Durability multiplier versus repair kits
Changing the multiplier does not create, improve, or consume repair kits. Repair kits are separate in-game items with their own rules.
In Funcom’s 2023 Age of War notes, all repair kits work on weapon and armor tiers except Unique and Legendary items. Using a kit lowers the item’s maximum durability by between 2.5% and 20% of its original maximum, depending on the tier of the kit. Unique and Legendary items cannot be repaired by any method.

Consequently, setting the multiplier lower can reduce how often kits are needed, but it does not remove the maximum-durability penalty when a kit is used.
Choosing a setting for common server styles
Normal survival progression
Stay at 1.0 when you want the documented reference behavior and standard maintenance decisions. This also gives administrators a baseline for comparing future changes.
Casual cooperative play
Try 0.5 if repeated repair trips interrupt group activities. It lowers the example wear rate without removing the need to monitor equipment. Verify that the tools your group uses most actually respond on your setup.
Building, events, or testing
Use 0 only when you intentionally want no durability loss for the categories covered by your implementation. Explain the limitation to players so they do not expect armor or gathering tools to become permanently intact.
Hardcore or resource-focused play
A value above 1.0, such as 1.5, increases the documented example wear rate. Before applying it to an established world, tell players that replacement materials and repair planning will become more important.
