To host Cobblemon Academy 2.0, download the server-files archive for the exact modpack release your players install, run it on a Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 Fabric server, accept the EULA, configure the server, and have every player use the same client profile. The current main release is Cobblemon Academy 2.0-2.6.0; older archives such as 2.3.0 and 2.4.0 are still listed, so version matching is the first and most important step.

What you need before hosting
Cobblemon Academy is a Minecraft Java Edition modpack built on Fabric. The underlying Cobblemon project supports Java Edition client and server environments and has Fabric and NeoForge variants, but the Academy 2.0 files described here use Fabric on Minecraft 1.21.1. Your server, launcher profile, and every player’s client must agree on that Minecraft version, the Fabric loader, and the Academy release.

- Minecraft Java Edition installed for each player.
- A launcher that can install CurseForge modpacks. The Cobblemon project recommends the Modrinth App and identifies Prism Launcher as an alternative.
- A machine or Minecraft host capable of running a Fabric 1.21.1 server.
- The Cobblemon Academy server-files archive for the exact release you intend to run.
- A backup location for world saves before any update.
- Network access and firewall settings that allow the players you invite to reach the server.
The archive is a server deployment package, not a replacement for Minecraft Java Edition. Players still need the base game and a correctly installed client modpack.
Choose one Academy release and keep every component on it
The main project page currently lists Cobblemon Academy 2.0-2.6.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric, updated June 29, 2026. The CurseForge file list also contains older server archives. Do not download the newest client profile and pair it with an older server archive simply because both are labeled Academy 2.0.

| Cobblemon Academy 2.0-2.3.0 | Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric | Matching server-files archive | 331.0 MB; uploaded February 13, 2026 |
At the time of the project-page listing, the Academy 2.0 project showed 508,132 total downloads. The 2.3.0 server-files entry showed 5.1K downloads. Those counts indicate how many downloads the pages displayed, not a compatibility guarantee or a recommendation to use an older release.
How to decide which release to use
- For a new world, use the current 2.6.0 client and its corresponding server-files entry unless you have a specific reason to start on an older release.
- For an existing world, identify the version in the launcher profile and select the server archive with that same version number.
- If your group already downloaded 2.3.0 or 2.4.0, keep the server on that release until you plan and test an update. Updating only the server or only some clients creates avoidable join failures.
Download the official server files
- Open the Cobblemon Academy 2.0 project on CurseForge and select its file list.
- Find the Academy release your group will use, such as 2.6.0, 2.4.0, or 2.3.0.
- Open the matching entry named Cobblemon Academy Server Files. Confirm that its release number, Minecraft version, and loader match the client profile you selected.
- Download the archive to the computer or hosting panel where you will deploy the server. The 2.3.0 and 2.4.0 archives displayed a size of 331.0 MB, so allow enough storage for the download, extracted files, logs, and world data.
- Keep the original archive until the server has started successfully. It gives you a clean copy if extraction or an update goes wrong.
Do not build a server by copying a random selection of client mods. The server-files archive is the publisher’s package for hosting that specific release and is the safest starting point.

Install the pack on a self-managed server
The exact buttons differ between operating systems and hosts, but the deployment sequence is consistent.
- Create a dedicated server directory. Use a folder with enough free disk space for the archive, extracted files, logs, configuration, and world backups. Avoid placing the live world inside a temporary downloads folder.
- Install or select Minecraft 1.21.1 Fabric. A self-managed machine needs a Fabric server installation compatible with the Academy archive. If your host provides a server-type selector, choose Fabric and then Minecraft 1.21.1 before uploading files.
- Upload and extract the archive. Upload the downloaded server-files archive, extract it into the server directory, and preserve the directory structure supplied by the pack. Do not nest the real server files inside an extra folder if your host’s start panel expects them at the top level.
- Start the server once. Use the startup script or control-panel start action supplied by your server installation. The first run normally creates or completes configuration files and stops when Minecraft requires EULA acceptance.
- Accept the Minecraft EULA. Read Minecraft’s EULA and set the generated EULA setting to accept it, using the file and method shown by your server installation. Start the process again after saving the change.
- Wait for a clean startup. Let Fabric finish loading the Academy mods and wait for the log to report that the server is ready before attempting to connect. A process that exits during mod loading needs log inspection before players join.
The archive may include a launch script, but its exact filename and Java invocation can vary by release and operating system. Use the supplied script or your host’s documented start command rather than inventing a jar filename.
Complete the normal server configuration
After the first successful start, stop the server cleanly and review the settings that control access and recovery.

Server properties
- Set the world name and gameplay options your group wants in the server properties file.
- Choose whether the server is public or restricted to invited players.
- Set the network port required by your host or network. The supplied Academy documentation does not prescribe a special port number, so follow the standard Minecraft and host instructions for your environment.
- Review difficulty, player limit, view distance, and other performance-related settings before opening the server to the group.
Memory and process settings
The Academy documentation does not specify a universal RAM allocation. Give the server an allocation appropriate to your machine, player count, and other mods, then watch the startup log and operating-system resource usage. Leave enough memory for the operating system and any other services on the machine; assigning all physical memory to Java can make the host less stable.
Whitelist and operator access
- Enable a whitelist when the world is intended for friends or a small community.
- Add each player’s Minecraft username through the server console or the control panel’s player-management tools.
- Grant operator permissions only to people who need administrative commands. Operator access can change worlds, permissions, and gameplay, so it should not be a substitute for a whitelist.
Firewall and router access
A self-hosted server must be reachable from outside the host machine. Allow the selected server port through the machine’s firewall and, when the machine is behind a home router, forward that port to the server computer according to the router’s instructions. Test from a separate connection, such as a friend’s network or a mobile hotspot; a local connection can succeed even when outside access is blocked. Managed hosts generally expose the required address and port in their control panel.
Backups
Before inviting players, identify the world-save folder and make a copy that the running server is not writing to. Keep dated backups on a different drive or storage service when possible. A backup is especially important before replacing the pack, loader, or server files.
Install the matching client profile
Every player must install the same Cobblemon Academy version before connecting. The independent installation guidance specifically directs players to use the same version from the file list. “Almost the same” is not enough: 2.3.0, 2.4.0, and 2.6.0 are separate pack releases.
- Install Minecraft Java Edition and a supported launcher.
- In the launcher, install the Academy client profile for the exact release running on the server.
- Confirm the profile uses Minecraft 1.21.1 and Fabric, not a different Minecraft version or loader variant.
- Launch the profile once locally so the launcher creates its instance and downloads the required files.
- Give the player the server address and port only after the server has completed a clean startup.
- Connect from the Academy profile, not from an unmodded Minecraft installation or a different modpack instance.
The server and client should have the complete mod set supplied for that release. Removing a client mod because the game appears to start can produce a mismatch later when the server checks installed content.

Verify the server before inviting everyone
- Start the server and wait until the log indicates that the world is loaded and the server is ready.
- Join from the host machine or a computer on the same local network, if possible.
- Walk around, open inventories, and test the features your group expects to use.
- Have one remote player connect. This separates local configuration problems from firewall, router, DNS, or host-panel problems.
- Check the server log while the player joins. Record the exact error if the connection fails instead of repeatedly restarting without changing anything.
Stop the server cleanly after testing so the world is saved. Abruptly terminating the Java process increases the risk of data loss.
Use a managed host instead of running the files yourself
A managed Minecraft host can remove much of the operating-system and network administration. You still need to choose the correct Academy archive and keep the client versions aligned.
| Consideration | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | You manage Java, the server process, file deployment, network configuration, updates, and backups. | The provider supplies a control panel and handles more of the process setup; you upload the archive or use its modpack installer. |
| Control | Direct access to files, configuration, logs, and the underlying machine. | Convenient controls, with some low-level filesystem and operating-system access traded for simplicity. |
| Support | You rely on your own troubleshooting and community documentation. | The host may provide operational support for its panel, machine, and network. |
| Cost | Uses existing hardware and bandwidth, although electricity, maintenance, and internet limits still matter. | Adds a recurring hosting charge. Promotional pricing and renewal terms vary. |
| Compatibility requirement | Must run Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric, and the exact Academy release selected by clients. | Must still run Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric, and the exact Academy release selected by clients. |
Managed-host deployment checklist
- Create the server instance and select Fabric with Minecraft 1.21.1 in the host panel.
- Use the panel’s custom modpack upload or modpack installer to add the matching Cobblemon Academy server archive.
- Confirm that the installed release number is the same one shown in every player’s launcher.
- Start the instance once, accept the EULA in the panel or generated file, and wait for the first complete startup.
- Configure the whitelist, operator permissions, backups, and world settings through the panel or server files.
- Use the address and port displayed by the host for the connection test.
The official Academy project page currently recommends BisectHosting for private worlds and displays a 25% first-month discount code. Check the project page and the provider’s current offer, region eligibility, renewal price, and affiliate terms before relying on that promotion; offers can change.
What a private Academy world does not include
A privately hosted server is not feature-equivalent to the public Academy server shown in promotional material. The publisher’s warning is: “Not all features shown from 2.0’s public server are available in privately hosted worlds at this time.”
The publisher specifically lists these features as unavailable in private worlds at present:
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
- Raids
- Dungeons
- Hideouts
- Ranked battles
- The safari world
- Daycare
- The shop system
These limitations are tied to the publisher’s public-server infrastructure and are not something a host can enable merely by changing a server property. The project may add private-host compatibility in a future update, but no schedule is promised. Set expectations with your group before they begin a private world.

Both sides should be on Minecraft 1.21.1 for the Academy releases covered here. A client running another Minecraft version can fail before the mod list is even checked.
2. Confirm the Fabric loader
The Academy 2.0 releases in the file list use Fabric. Do not launch a NeoForge profile or an unmodded profile against this server, even though the underlying Cobblemon project supports NeoForge variants.
3. Confirm the Academy release number
Compare the server archive name, the server’s installed files, and the client’s launcher profile. A 2.3.0 client should join a 2.3.0 server, not 2.4.0 or 2.6.0.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
4. Check the complete client mod list
Make sure the player installed the full matching profile and did not remove, replace, or add mods manually. Reinstalling the profile into a fresh launcher instance can be faster than trying to identify a missing file one by one.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
5. Read the server startup and join logs
Look for the first meaningful error, not only the final “connection lost” message. A missing dependency, failed mixin, rejected registry entry, or server crash usually identifies the incompatible file or configuration that needs correction.
6. Check the address, port, firewall, and whitelist
Verify that the player is using the address and port currently shown by the host or router, that the server process is running, and that the username is whitelisted when a whitelist is enabled. Test locally and remotely to determine whether the problem is the modpack or the network path.
7. Relaunch after the documented 2.3.0 join crash
The 2.3.0 server-file notes document a bug that may cause clients to crash while attempting to join. The stated workaround is to relaunch the client and try again. This advice is specific to that documented 2.3.0 situation; it is not a guarantee that relaunching fixes every Academy version or every crash.
Update without losing the world
- Tell all players which release you will move to and schedule downtime.
- Stop the server normally and verify that the world has finished saving.
- Duplicate the complete world-save folder and label the copy with the old release and date.
- Back up configuration files and any custom settings you need to reproduce.
- Install the new matching server-files archive in the manner recommended by your host, rather than overwriting files blindly.
- Start the updated server with no players connected and inspect the log for errors.
- Install the identical client release for every player and test with one account before reopening the world.
- Keep the old backup until the group has played successfully on the new release.
The publisher recommends backing up or duplicating world saves before updates because an unforeseen update problem can otherwise make progress difficult to recover. Do not open the same world simultaneously with old and new server versions while testing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUnderstand the difference between Cobblemon and Academy servers
The Cobblemon project states that Cobblemon does not have an official server. Cobblemon Academy’s public server is a separate project experience with services that private worlds currently lack. Hosting the Academy server files gives your group a private modded Minecraft world; it does not recreate the public server’s backend, matchmaking, economy, or special worlds.
Final setup checklist
- Selected one Academy release and downloaded its matching server-files archive.
- Confirmed Minecraft 1.21.1 and Fabric on the server and every client.
- Extracted the archive into the correct server directory.
- Started once, accepted the EULA, and completed the normal server configuration.
- Configured access, firewall or host networking, whitelist, operator permissions, and backups.
- Installed the identical client profile for every player.
- Tested one local and one remote connection.
- Explained that raids, dungeons, hideouts, ranked battles, the safari world, daycare, and the shop system are not currently available in private worlds.
- Created a dated world backup before any future update.
Following this sequence gives you a supported private Fabric deployment while keeping the most common source of failure—an unmatched client and server release—under control.
