Choose the correct vMenu build first
vMenu now has two installation targets. “Enhanced” refers to GTA V Enhanced servers. “Enhanced-Legacy” is the build for a regular FiveM Legacy server. The archives are not interchangeable: a Legacy server will refuse the Enhanced archive, while an Enhanced server needs the Enhanced archive.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Your server runtime | Archive to use | Important release context |
|---|---|---|
| FiveM Enhanced (GTA V Enhanced) | vMenu-Enhanced-v<version>.zip |
Current Enhanced releases are labeled alpha or pre-release and may contain breaking changes. |
| Regular FiveM / Legacy | vMenu-Enhanced-Legacy-v<version>.zip |
The Legacy branch contains the build intended for regular FiveM servers. |
The upstream project describes the original vMenu v3.9.2 and earlier as a legacy branch that is no longer updated. That does not mean you should install the old archive on every server; identify the runtime your FXServer actually uses and select the matching current archive.

How to confirm the runtime before downloading
Check the runtime selected for the server in its deployment or hosting panel and confirm whether it is a GTA V Enhanced/FiveM Enhanced server or a regular FiveM server. Do this before extracting anything. The word “Enhanced” in the product or runtime label is the deciding factor; it is not a reason to rename a Legacy installation or to use both archives together. If you are moving an existing server, record the runtime and vMenu release currently in use so you can roll back cleanly if a new build is incompatible.
What you need before installing
- Access to the server’s txAdmin panel or to its files and
server.cfg. - A server already running the FiveM runtime you intend to use.
- The matching vMenu archive downloaded from the project’s releases.
- A backup of the existing
permissions.cfg,configuration.cfg, andserver.cfgbefore changing them. - An administrator identifier or group that you can assign ACE permissions to after the resource starts.
vMenu is a server-side administrative menu. It can expose vehicle, player, world, and other gameplay controls, so give broad permissions only to trusted staff. ACE permissions determine who can use each feature; installing the resource alone does not make every player an administrator.
Keep the archive intact until you have verified the download, and extract the resource directly into the server’s resources directory. Avoid an extra nesting level such as resources/vMenu-Enhanced-vX/vMenu.Enhanced; the directory that FiveM loads must itself be named vMenu.Enhanced and must contain the configuration directory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFastest method: install with the txAdmin recipe
txAdmin is the control panel included with FiveM servers. Its vMenu recipe creates the resource, settings, and permissions files for you instead of requiring you to assemble the startup entries manually. The Enhanced recipe also includes the routing-buckets, theme-picker, and custom-themes plugins.
Enhanced recipe
- Open txAdmin’s server-deployment or recipe workflow and start creating a server.
- Select the vMenu Enhanced recipe if it appears in the list. If it is not listed, choose Remote URL Template.
- Paste this exact URL into the remote-template field: https://github.com/TomGrobbe/vMenu/releases/latest/download/txadmin-vmenu-enhanced-recipe.yaml
- Let txAdmin process the recipe and generate the server files and
server.cfg. - Review the generated permissions and settings before starting the server. The generated file explains how plugin permissions are assigned.
- Start the server, connect, and press
Mto confirm that the menu opens.
Legacy recipe
- Use the same txAdmin deployment workflow, selecting the vMenu Legacy recipe when available.
- If it is missing, choose Remote URL Template.
- Paste this exact URL: https://github.com/TomGrobbe/vMenu/releases/latest/download/txadmin-vmenu-legacy-recipe.yaml
- Allow txAdmin to generate
server.cfg, permissions, and configuration files. - Inspect the generated permissions before giving staff access, then start the server and press
Min game.
The recipe is the better choice for a new server because it establishes the expected file layout and startup settings automatically. Use the manual method when you already maintain a custom resource tree, need to pin a particular release, or want to control every line in server.cfg.
Do not assume that a successful recipe import means every user has access. The recipe prepares the files, but ACE entries still determine which identifier or group can open administrative features. Read the generated comments and permission entries, replace example identities with your own staff identities, and test with an account that should have access.
Manual installation on FiveM Enhanced
Use this path only with the Enhanced archive. The folder name and startup order are strict requirements.
1. Download and extract the archive
- Download
vMenu-Enhanced-v<version>.zipfrom the latest upstream release. - Extract it into the server’s
resourcesdirectory. Keep the resource’s configuration subdirectory intact. - Do not use the archive whose name contains
Legacy; that archive is for a regular FiveM server.
2. Rename the resource exactly
Rename the extracted folder to vMenu.Enhanced. Capitalization matters: the capital M, capital E, and period must match. vMenu builds its permission and setting paths from this resource name and refuses to start under a different name.

- Play through an epic single player experience using three very different characters.
- Join your friends in GTA Online and see what trouble you can cause.
- Play golf, tennis, see a film or call someone and just hang out.
3. Add the startup entries
Open server.cfg and add these four lines in this order:
exec @vMenu.Enhanced/config/permissions.cfg
exec @vMenu.Enhanced/config/configuration.cfg
add_filesystem_permission vMenu.Enhanced write vMenu.Enhanced
ensure vMenu.Enhanced
The two exec commands load the ACE permissions and vMenu settings. Enhanced servers restrict resource disk writes, so add_filesystem_permission grants vMenu write access to its own directory. The first three lines must appear before ensure; if the resource starts first, it cannot load the intended configuration or save its data.
4. Allow role-sync integrations when needed
If another resource adds or removes principals for vMenu groups, also place these ACE entries before the resource is ensured:
add_ace resource.vMenu.Enhanced command.add_principal allow
add_ace resource.vMenu.Enhanced command.remove_principal allow
These lines are for integrations that manage groups. They are not a substitute for assigning your own administrator permissions in permissions.cfg.
Manual installation on FiveM Legacy
1. Use the Legacy archive
- Download
vMenu-Enhanced-Legacy-v<version>.zip. - Extract it into the server’s
resourcesdirectory. - Do not use the archive without
Legacyin its filename; the non-Legacy archive refuses to start on a regular FiveM server.
2. Keep the same resource name
Even on a Legacy server, the extracted directory must be named vMenu.Enhanced with exactly the same capitalization. Do not rename it to vMenu, vMenu-Legacy, or another custom label, because the configuration paths and permission names depend on the required name.
3. Add the same four lines
Place the following entries in server.cfg, before any ensure vMenu.Enhanced line:
exec @vMenu.Enhanced/config/permissions.cfg
exec @vMenu.Enhanced/config/configuration.cfg
add_filesystem_permission vMenu.Enhanced write vMenu.Enhanced
ensure vMenu.Enhanced
On Legacy, these entries still load the configuration and grant vMenu the write access it needs for its own folder. Do not add a second, differently named ensure command; one correctly ordered entry is sufficient.
Understand the four server.cfg lines
Each line has a separate job, so copying only the final ensure command is not a complete installation.

Keep the lines together while troubleshooting. A correctly spelled path with the wrong order can fail just as surely as a missing file. The same sequence is used for Enhanced and Legacy; only the downloaded archive changes.
Set up ACE permissions safely
ACE (Access Control Entries) is FiveM’s permission system. vMenu checks ACE permissions before exposing administrative and gameplay functions, so your first job after installation is to identify the administrator group or identifier that should receive access.
- Open the generated
permissions.cfgor the example file invMenu.Enhanced/config. - Find the administrator group or identifier entries supplied by that file.
- Replace the example identifier or group with the identifier used by your staff, following the file’s existing syntax.
- Keep high-impact permissions limited to trusted administrators. Avoid granting broad access to a public group.
- Save the file and restart the server so the
execcommand reloads it.
The txAdmin-generated file documents how its plugin permissions are assigned. If you use the optional role-sync entries, make sure that integration is the component responsible for adding and removing principals; otherwise, manage the principals directly in your permissions configuration.

Permission troubleshooting should be done with a known test identity. If one administrator can open vMenu and another cannot, compare their identifiers and group membership rather than changing the resource name or reinstalling files. If the menu opens but a category is missing, the account may have access to vMenu generally but lack that category’s ACE grant.
Verify that vMenu is working
- Restart the server after saving
server.cfgand any permission changes. - Join the server with an account that has the intended ACE permissions.
- Press
M. The documented first check is that the vMenu interface opens. - Test only the features your administrator account should have. A missing menu or missing category usually indicates a startup, permission, or configuration problem rather than a keyboard problem.
- Have a second, non-administrator account connect if you need to confirm that restricted features are not exposed to ordinary players.
If the menu opens but a feature is absent, review that feature’s ACE entry instead of reinstalling the resource. If nothing opens, work through the startup checks below in order.
Troubleshoot startup failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The resource refuses to start immediately. | The archive does not match the server runtime. | Use the Enhanced archive for GTA V Enhanced or the Enhanced-Legacy archive for a regular FiveM server. |
| vMenu reports a naming or path problem. | The extracted directory is not exactly vMenu.Enhanced. |
Rename the folder, including the capitalization and period, and keep the configuration directory inside it. |
| The menu does not open after restart. | The configuration files were not executed, or the resource was ensured too early. | Put both exec lines before ensure vMenu.Enhanced in server.cfg. |
| Settings do not save or vMenu cannot write files. | Enhanced filesystem write access is missing. | Add add_filesystem_permission vMenu.Enhanced write vMenu.Enhanced before the ensure line. |
| The menu opens for an administrator but not another staff member. | That identifier or group lacks the required ACE permissions. | Update permissions.cfg for the correct identifier or group, then restart. |
| A group-management integration cannot change principals. | The resource lacks permission to run the principal commands. | Add the two add_ace resource.vMenu.Enhanced command... entries before ensure, as required by that integration. |
When checking the console, verify the actual resource path and startup order rather than relying on a successful “ensure” message alone. A resource can be present but still fail to load its settings if the paths or permissions are wrong.
Common avoidable mistakes
- Extracting the Legacy archive on an Enhanced server, or the Enhanced archive on a regular server.
- Leaving the extracted directory with the release filename instead of renaming it to
vMenu.Enhanced. - Putting the configuration files in a different folder while leaving the documented
execpaths unchanged. - Placing
ensure vMenu.Enhancedabove theexecand filesystem-permission lines. - Editing a generated permissions file but forgetting to restart, so the old ACE settings remain loaded.
- Giving a plugin or integration broad principal-management rights without checking which component should control groups.
Add plugins without modifying vMenu
vMenu Enhanced accepts separate FiveM resources as plugins. A plugin adds its menus while the server is running; it does not patch or edit the vMenu resource itself. Install each plugin as its own resource and follow that plugin’s permission instructions.
Recommended Free Tools
- Lua, JavaScript, and TypeScript plugins work on both Enhanced and Legacy.
- A C# plugin on a Legacy server must be built for FiveM Legacy.
Because plugins can add their own permissions and menus, review the generated or supplied ACE entries before enabling them for staff. Keep plugin resources separate so that an update to vMenu does not overwrite plugin files.

| Release caution | Current Enhanced builds are alpha or pre-release and can include breaking changes. | Use the Legacy archive and review its compatibility notes before changing versions. |
| Plugin compatibility | Lua, JavaScript, and TypeScript plugins are supported. | Lua, JavaScript, and TypeScript are supported; C# requires a Legacy build. |
The installation mechanics are intentionally similar once the correct archive is selected. The runtime choice is the critical fork; the folder name and startup entries remain the same.
txAdmin recipe or manual installation?
| Route | Best for | What it provides | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| txAdmin recipe | New servers and administrators who want a prepared layout | Generates server.cfg, permissions, settings, and (for Enhanced) the listed official plugins. |
Less control over the initial file layout; inspect generated permissions before production use. |
| Manual installation | Existing servers, custom resource trees, or pinned releases | Direct control of the archive, folder name, startup order, permissions, and update timing. | You must correctly create every required path and command yourself. |
Both methods ultimately depend on the same four operational checks: the archive matches the runtime, the resource is named correctly, configuration is executed before startup, and filesystem write access is granted.
Updating and maintaining vMenu
The upstream releases page labels current Enhanced builds as alpha or pre-release and warns of breaking changes and incomplete features. One listed build also requires a specific FXServer version. Treat an update as a compatibility change, not as a routine file replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which vMenu download should I use for a regular FiveM server?
Use vMenu-Enhanced-Legacy-v<version>.zip. The archive without “Legacy” is for GTA V Enhanced and refuses to start on a regular FiveM server.
What must the extracted folder be called?
On both runtimes it must be named vMenu.Enhanced, with a capital M, capital E, and the period. vMenu uses that exact name in its paths and permission identifiers.
What lines belong in server.cfg?
Add the two exec lines for permissions.cfg and configuration.cfg, the add_filesystem_permission line, and then ensure vMenu.Enhanced, in that order.
Why does vMenu refuse to start after extraction?
The usual documented causes are a mismatched archive, an incorrectly named folder, missing configuration files, or startup lines placed after ensure. Check those items first.

How do I give myself administrator access?
Edit the generated or example permissions.cfg, assign the required ACE permissions to your administrator identifier or group, save it, and restart the server.
Why can vMenu open but fail to save settings?
Enhanced servers require add_filesystem_permission vMenu.Enhanced write vMenu.Enhanced before the ensure line so the resource can write to its own folder.
How do I open vMenu to test the installation?
Restart the server, join with an account that has the intended ACE permissions, and press M.

Lua, JavaScript, and TypeScript plugins work on both. A C# plugin used on Legacy must be built for FiveM Legacy.
Should I use the txAdmin recipe or install manually?
Use the recipe for a new server and a prepared layout. Choose manual installation when you need a custom resource tree, a pinned release, or direct control over every startup entry.
Are Enhanced releases safe to update blindly?
No. Current Enhanced builds are labeled alpha or pre-release, may contain breaking changes, and one listed build requires a particular FXServer version. Read release notes, back up files, and test before updating production.
The Bottom Line
Match the archive to the runtime, name the resource vMenu.Enhanced, execute both configuration files, grant filesystem write access, and ensure the resource last. Then configure ACE permissions, restart, and press M to verify access. For new servers, txAdmin’s official recipe handles the initial layout; for existing servers, the manual four-line setup provides precise control.
