Clockify’s Chrome extension lets you track work in your browser by starting a timer, assigning the entry to a project or task, and reviewing the recorded time later. Clockify describes the extension as free. Setup is straightforward: create an account, install the extension, sign in, enter what you’re working on, and start the timer.
How to set up Clockify in Chrome
- Create a Clockify account. Use Clockify’s Chrome extension page to begin.
- Install the extension. Add Clockify to Chrome from the extension page.
- Sign in. Log in through the Clockify webpage when prompted.
- Describe the work. Enter a task description, then optionally select a project, task, tag, or billability status for the time entry.
- Start the timer. Stop it when you finish. You can also resume a previous activity from the entry list.
Clockify also describes starting a timer from text selected on a webpage: select the text, then use the context-menu option to track it.

What the extension can do
Beyond starting and stopping a timer, Clockify lists automatic syncing, a Pomodoro timer, reminders, idle detection, automatic start and stop, a default project, selected-text tracking, and a keyboard shortcut. Clockify lists Ctrl+Shift+U as the timer shortcut on its extension page.

Using Clockify with Jira, Trello, and other apps
Clockify describes integrations that add timer controls to supported productivity apps, including Jira and Trello. When available in an app, the timer button can make it easier to associate tracked work with that activity. The extension also supports starting a timer from selected text, which can help when a task description is already visible in a browser tab.
These integrations are not a guarantee that every feature works identically in every service. Clockify’s extension instructions and apps page are the relevant places to check current supported apps and platform availability.

Is Clockify free?
Clockify presents the Chrome extension as free. Its pricing page lists a Free plan at $0 and includes time tracking, timesheets, calendar, mobile and desktop apps, a Pomodoro timer, idle detection, reminders, tracking integrations, team activity, and reports. Clockify’s feature availability can vary by platform.
Clockify’s official pages give conflicting descriptions of the Free plan’s user allowance: the pricing page says “For up to 5 users,” while its free-trial page says users can invite up to 4 people for free. The pages do not explain whether they count the account owner differently. Check the live plan terms before relying on a specific seat limit.

Where to view and manage tracked time
The Chrome extension is one way to record time; Clockify also offers manual time entry, timesheets, a calendar, and reports. This is useful if you forget to run a timer or need to review entries across a project. Clockify says reports can be downloaded as PDF, CSV, or Excel files on its features page.
Clockify lists apps for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, as well as Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS. Its apps page identifies Chrome support for idle detection, automatic start and stop, and reminders. Confirm current support on the apps page, since platform features can change.

When the Chrome extension is a good fit
- Use the extension if you do most of your work in Chrome and want a timer close to the webpages where tasks happen.
- Use manual entry or a timesheet when you need to add or correct hours after the work is done.
- Consider another Clockify app if you need to track time outside the browser; availability and features depend on the platform.
Clockify’s official feature list includes idle detection, but it does not establish that idle detection replaces checking or correcting a time entry. Review tracked time and the current feature settings that apply to your device.
