Samsung QA55S90FAWXXY Review: What to Know About the 55-Inch S90F OLED

The Samsung QA55S90FAWXXY is the Australian 55-inch 2025 S90F OLED: a 4K TV with a 100Hz native refresh rate, four HDMI inputs specified for up to 4K at 144Hz, and Samsung’s Tizen smart platform. Its specifications make it a strong-on-paper fit for mixed TV and gaming use, but those figures do not establish measured picture quality, brightness, or input lag. Samsung announced a launch RRP of A$3,794 on 8 April 2025; that is historical pricing, not a current quote.

What the QA55S90FAWXXY is

This exact Australian model is Samsung’s OLED S90F 4K Vision AI Smart TV, released as a 2025 model. Its 55-inch OLED panel has a published resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels. Samsung lists self-illuminating pixels, AI-based upscaling, OLED HDR+, HDR10+ Adaptive and Gaming, and Filmmaker Mode. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent measurements of the screen’s results.

Samsung’s Australian product page displays a TechRadar review quote calling the S90F “an OLED TV treat every bit worthy of its 5 star score.” That is an endorsement reproduced by Samsung; it should not be mistaken for a model-matched test of this Australian SKU. The available evidence does not establish independent measured brightness, input lag, color volume, burn-in performance, or a direct comparison for the QA55S90FAWXXY.

How to interpret its refresh-rate claims

Samsung specifies a native refresh rate of 100Hz and separately advertises gaming motion up to 144Hz. The distinction matters: 100Hz is the published native rate, while 144Hz is a maximum input/gaming capability rather than the rate of ordinary broadcast programming.

The product specifications list all four HDMI inputs as supporting up to 4K at 144Hz. Samsung says the maximum gaming motion capability requires a compatible gaming PC and source supporting 4K, 144Hz, and VRR. A console or other device should not be assumed to deliver that combination just because the TV lists it.

Samsung also lists VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro, ALLM, and HGiG. These features address variable refresh, automatic low-latency mode, and HDR gaming support, but the published feature list alone does not establish this TV’s measured latency or performance with a particular game, GPU, or console.

HDR formats and picture features

Samsung’s published format list includes HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10+ Gaming, but does not list Dolby Vision. If Dolby Vision support is important for the services or discs you use, treat that as a format limitation when comparing TVs. This is a reading of Samsung’s published specification, not a hands-on playback test.

Other listed features include Filmmaker Mode and AI-based upscaling. They describe available picture modes and processing functions; they do not by themselves tell you how accurately the screen reproduces a particular film or how well it upscales a specific source.

Gaming connections and everyday ports

For a gaming setup, the key published advantage is that each of the four HDMI inputs is specified for 4K at up to 144Hz. The same connection set includes eARC, which can send audio to a compatible soundbar or receiver. Check your source device’s supported output and the chosen HDMI input/settings when planning a high-refresh PC setup; the TV’s maximum does not make an incompatible source capable of 144Hz.

Smart TV, apps, and software support

The QA55S90FAWXXY runs Tizen Smart TV. Samsung lists Samsung TV Plus, SmartThings and Matter hub functions, and Apple AirPlay 2. App catalogues, network requirements, subscriptions, and service availability can change, so the feature list is not a guarantee that every service or app will be available indefinitely in Australia.

Samsung says products released in 2025 will receive Tizen OS upgrades for seven years from the release year. The commitment is for OS upgrades; Samsung excludes hardware-related performance, features, and durability. It is therefore not a seven-year guarantee of unchanged speed, new hardware capabilities, or physical lifespan.

Built-in audio and soundbar options

Samsung specifies 40W RMS output from a 2.1-channel speaker system, with Dolby Atmos, Object Tracking Sound Lite, and Q-Symphony listed. Those are manufacturer specifications and features, not evidence of independent sound-quality testing. Whether the built-in speakers are sufficient depends on your room, listening level, and expectations for bass and dialogue clarity.

The TV has eARC for connection to compatible audio equipment. Samsung says Q-Symphony works with compatible 2022-and-later Q-Series and S-Series soundbars; compatible soundbars are sold separately, and the effect depends on the setup. A soundbar is an option for buyers who want a different or more substantial audio system, not a requirement for every owner.

Room reflections and placement

Samsung lists anti-reflection as a feature, but that does not establish how the screen performs under measured glare conditions. The evidence does not support calling this model glare-free or equating its anti-reflection feature with the separately advertised Glare-free coating on Samsung’s S95F. If the TV will face a bright window, inspect the room and screen in person if possible before choosing.

Price and buying decision in Australia

Samsung Newsroom Australia announced A$3,794 as the QA55S90FAWXXY’s launch recommended retail price on 8 April 2025. That dated launch RRP is not a current selling price, and dealer pricing is discretionary. Current Australian price and stock are not established here, so check listings for the exact SKU before buying.

On the published specification, the S90F is worth considering if you want a 55-inch OLED, four HDMI inputs with a stated 4K/144Hz ceiling, and Tizen features. Whether it is good value today depends on the live price and what alternatives cost in Australia at the same size. Compare HDR format support, room reflections, gaming needs, software preferences, and whether you plan to use external audio. No model-matched benchmark data here supports ranking it above competing OLEDs on measured picture or gaming performance.
