What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To launch a client-facing web product, first define what each client can view or change, then choose a builder that supports the needed sign-in methods, record-level permissions, integrations, and custom-domain publishing on a plan you can afford. Adding a login screen or generating an interface is only the start: the app is ready for clients only after you test that each account can access its own data and complete the workflows you intend to offer.
Start with the client task and data model
Write down what a client should be able to see, submit, update, or download. Then identify which records belong to that client and who on your team can access them. This determines whether you need a simple branded portal, a more involved workflow application, or a custom-built product.

- List client actions: for example, review project status, submit a request, upload a file, or download an invoice.
- Define the records: identify the users, projects, requests, files, or other data involved and how each record is associated with a client.
- Set roles: decide what clients, staff, and administrators may view or change.
- Map integrations: identify any existing database, forms, payment, or business systems the product must connect to.
These choices are more important than the first set of screens. A portal that looks finished but does not enforce client-specific access can expose the wrong records.

Choose a builder for the product you need
Two broad approaches suit this work. A portal-first visual builder emphasizes logins, user groups, permissions, and repeatable client workflows. A code-generating app builder may suit a product that needs more custom logic or code control. Neither approach is automatically the right choice: compare the actual feature set and limits of the plan you would use.

| Decision area | Portal-first visual builder | Code-generating app builder |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in and permissions | Look for built-in login methods, user groups, and record-level rules. Softr describes email, magic link, Google, and SSO login options, plus visual user groups and permissions. Softr | Check how authentication and authorization are implemented, and whether you can inspect and change the resulting logic. Lovable describes generating interfaces, databases, logic, and authentication as part of its app-building workflow. Lovable |
| Workflow and code control | Assess whether the visual workflow model can handle your forms, approvals, and client-specific steps. | Consider this route when you need more control over custom application behavior. Lovable’s comparison with Bubble describes Lovable’s standard React/TypeScript code and Bubble’s visual workflows; it is vendor-authored and reflects information publicly available as of March 2026. | Branding and domain | Confirm that the specific plan supports your domain, logo, and styling requirements. Softr describes these capabilities for client-facing portals on its agency page. Softr for agencies | Confirm how publishing and custom-domain setup work, and whether they are included on your selected plan. Lovable describes publishing and integrations as part of its build flow. | Data and integrations | Verify that your data source and required integrations fit the platform’s available connectors and plan limits. | Check which database and integrations the generated app uses and whether the setup meets your maintenance needs. |
| Cost and limits | Check current pricing, user caps, branding restrictions, and domain requirements for the expected number of clients. | Check current pricing, publishing limits, and any usage or integration caps before committing. |
Feature descriptions above come from the vendors, not independent security or product testing. Lovable’s phrase “Build an app from a single prompt” describes its pitch; it is not a guarantee that a prompt alone produces a complete production service. Features and prices change, so verify them directly on the vendor’s current plan pages before choosing.
Make client access a data rule, not a visual trick
Hiding a navigation item or page element does not protect the underlying records. The important question is whether the app’s permissions prevent a signed-in client from retrieving another client’s data, including through a direct link, a form submission, or an API-backed action.
- Associate each client account with the correct client or organization record.
- Define which records that identity is permitted to read, create, update, or delete.
- Apply those rules wherever data is queried or changed, not only in the visible interface.
- Test with separate accounts belonging to different clients, including attempts to open one another’s records.
Visual permission controls can make this configuration easier to express, but they do not establish that a particular app is secure or compliant. Softr describes granular permissions and other controls on its agency page; treat those as vendor descriptions and validate your own app’s behavior and any requirements that apply to your business. Publish on a domain clients can recognize
A custom domain is a publishing configuration, not a substitute for a working product. Before you switch over, confirm that your chosen builder supports the domain and branding setup you want on the plan you intend to use. Plan availability and setup instructions can change, so follow the vendor’s current documentation for the exact connection steps.
- Choose the domain or subdomain clients should use, such as a portal address under your business domain.
- Check the selected builder’s current plan requirements for custom domains, logos, and removal of platform branding.
- Follow that builder’s current domain instructions, including any DNS records it specifies.
- Wait for the provider to confirm the domain connection, then open the published address on desktop and mobile.
- Test sign-in and key client workflows at the connected address before sharing it.
Do not assume that a domain feature is included just because a builder supports publishing generally. For example, Softr describes custom domains and branding for client-facing portals, but the plan and current terms still need checking. Softr agency capabilities

Use separate test accounts and follow the same actions a client will take. A launch check should include:
Rank #3
- Create a new account and confirm the expected onboarding or approval flow.
- Sign in, sign out, and test the actual password, magic-link, Google, or SSO method you plan to offer.
- Confirm that Client A cannot see or alter Client B’s records, including when opening direct links or submitting forms.
- Test every form, upload, download, and status update you intend to provide.
- Check that staff and administrator roles have the intended access without granting client accounts extra privileges.
- Open the connected domain on desktop and mobile, and verify that the main workflows remain usable.
If any cross-client data is visible or editable, do not invite customers until the access rules are corrected and the scenario passes a retest. A polished interface and successful login do not by themselves demonstrate that data is properly separated.

Pricing and included features are volatile. A Softr page reviewed for this guide showed free use with 10 app users and paid plans starting at $49 per month; those figures are not a current guarantee and may change. Check Softr’s current plans Lovable’s March 2026 comparison also listed plan prices for Lovable and Bubble, but those figures should likewise be verified against current vendor terms before budgeting. Check the dated comparison
When checking a plan, compare the caps and restrictions that affect your launch: expected active users, authentication methods, custom-domain availability, platform branding, data connections, integrations, and publishing. Estimate costs at the client count you expect to serve rather than relying only on a free or introductory tier.
