The available evidence supports a practical plan comparison, but not a verdict about which model won three everyday prompts: there are no prompt texts, outputs, scoring notes, or documented subscription choice to substantiate that hands-on claim. If you’re deciding what to cancel, compare the services on the tasks you actually use and the plan features you rely on—not on model names or nearly identical US prices.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
Claude Opus 5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro are models accessed through hosted services. Their official product pages describe model positioning, availability, and plan access; those details do not establish how either performs on a particular set of everyday prompts.

Anthropic announced Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026, and lists consumer access through Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. Anthropic positions Opus for coding, agents, and knowledge work. Anthropic’s Claude Opus page does not document results from a three-prompt comparison.
Google’s Gemini app update says Gemini 3.1 Pro began rolling out globally in the app on February 19, 2026, with higher limits for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Rollout and limits are account- and plan-dependent; check what your own Gemini app offers. Google’s Gemini app updates record the rollout, while the Gemini 3.1 Pro model card describes evaluation context. Neither is evidence of a head-to-head result on these three prompts.

What the subscriptions cost in the US
| Plan | US price shown | What the cited plan page establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | $20 per month; Anthropic’s pricing page also showed $200 billed upfront for annual billing | Anthropic’s Help Center says local pricing varies by region and annual billing is available. Its pricing page lists Max plans from $100 per person monthly. |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 per month | Google describes higher Gemini app usage and access to more features; bundle details and eligibility can vary by country. |
Prices are the US figures shown on official pages surfaced October 7, 2026, not a guarantee of your checkout price. Taxes, region, eligibility, billing terms, features, and usage limits can differ. Confirm the current terms on Anthropic’s plan guidance, Anthropic’s pricing page, and Google’s AI plans page before changing a subscription. A $0.01 difference between displayed monthly prices says nothing about which service is better value for you.
How to make a fair three-prompt comparison
If you want to decide based on everyday work, run the comparison yourself under conditions you can reproduce. Keep the prompts and context equivalent, and evaluate the finished answers rather than relying on a model’s reputation or benchmark score.
- Choose representative tasks. Use prompts you genuinely expect to repeat, such as explaining a document, drafting a message, or planning a task. Include the context each service needs, identically.
- Record the setup. Note the date, plan tier, model selected in each app, relevant settings, and whether web search or other tools were enabled. Model access and plan limits can change.
- Save the evidence. Keep both complete outputs, or clearly identified excerpts if the answers are too long to show in full. Do not silently edit the responses before comparing them.
- Score against the same criteria. Rate correctness, usefulness, completeness, clarity, instruction-following, and how much editing you had to do. Count speed only if you actually measured it under comparable conditions.
- Choose by task, not by a single overall label. Identify which service did better on each prompt and whether the difference mattered enough to your work to justify the subscription.
Which subscription should you cancel?
Cancel the plan that contributes less to your recurring tasks after you account for answer quality, editing effort, usage limits, features you actually use, and your local price. If one service is clearly more useful for your work, its subscription may be easier to justify. If the other is mainly redundant—or its included features do not matter to you—it may be the one to drop. The supplied product descriptions and prices alone cannot pick a winner for your three prompts.

For a defensible decision, use the comparison method above and check the plan terms in your account before cancelling. Google’s model card and Anthropic’s product positioning can explain what each company says about its offering, but they are not substitutes for your own results.
