The title’s author says they turned DLSS off, then switched it back on about five minutes later. That is a personal account, not a benchmark—and the title does not say which game, graphics card, resolution, DLSS feature, or alternative setting was involved. It suggests DLSS mattered to that player in that setup; it cannot show that every player needs it.
What happens if you turn DLSS off?
It depends on which DLSS feature you disable, the game, and the settings you use instead. NVIDIA describes DLSS as a suite of RTX neural-rendering technologies, not one universal switch. Its driver documentation distinguishes Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction; a report that simply says “DLSS was off” does not establish which of those was changed. NVIDIA’s DLSS overview and its driver documentation explain the separate technologies.

If Super Resolution was disabled, the game might instead render at the display’s native resolution or use another supported antialiasing or upscaling option. If Frame Generation or Ray Reconstruction was the setting changed, the comparison would be different. Without knowing the game and its settings, there is no reliable way to say what the author saw or how performance changed.

No. The title reports that the author re-enabled DLSS after about five minutes, but it gives no game, hardware, resolution, graphics settings, comparison mode, or measurement method. The account therefore records a preference in one unspecified session, not a measured performance result or a controlled image-quality comparison.

NVIDIA says DLSS is intended to improve frame rates in graphically intensive games, while also noting that preferences vary. Its FAQ says: “Depending on the resolution, quality settings, and game implementation, some may prefer TAA in one game and DLSS in another.” That is NVIDIA’s guidance, not independent validation of this particular five-minute experience. Read NVIDIA’s DLSS FAQ.
Is DLSS worth using?
Try it in the specific game you play, then compare it with the game’s available alternatives at the resolution and graphics settings you actually use. Look at image quality and smoothness separately, and check which DLSS feature is enabled. A frame-rate counter alone may not describe the whole experience, particularly if Frame Generation is involved; generated frames and traditionally rendered frames are not interchangeable measurements.

The title’s reversal is a useful illustration of how quickly one player may notice a change, but not a rule for other systems or games. NVIDIA’s own explanation recognizes that results and preferences can differ with implementation, resolution, and quality settings. The author’s hardware and test conditions are not stated, so no universal performance penalty or image-quality verdict can be drawn from the account.
