There is no universal winner. The best remittance option is the one that delivers the right amount to your recipient through a method they can use, at a price and speed that fit your needs. Compare live quotes for the same sending country, destination, amount, funding method, and delivery option—not just the advertised fee.
How to compare remittance options fairly
Start with the amount the recipient is expected to get after fees and currency conversion. A low or zero transfer fee does not necessarily mean the transfer costs less: a less favorable exchange rate can reduce the delivered amount. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) explains that fees, exchange rates, and the amount delivered are key pieces of information for covered U.S. remittance transfers. See its consumer guide to remittance transfers.

Compare quotes using the same details. The provider, sending and receiving countries, amount, payment method, and payout method can all affect the price and estimated delivery time. A quote or promotion for one transaction does not establish what another transfer will cost. Provider comparison pages, such as Wise’s transfer comparison and Western Union’s fee calculator, can help you review the figures for a specific transaction.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Recipient amount: Check what is expected to arrive after fees and conversion.
- Speed: Check the quoted arrival time for the exact payout option.
- Access: Confirm the recipient can use the account, card, wallet, or pickup location offered.
- Sender payment: Check which funding methods are available and whether the quote changes with the method.
- Transaction terms: Review the pre-payment information, tracking options, and cancellation terms before authorizing the transfer.
Bank transfer or bank deposit
“Bank transfer” can mean two different things: using a bank account to fund a remittance, or sending the money to the recipient’s bank account. Check which part of the transaction you mean when comparing options; a transfer funded from a bank account may still be delivered as cash pickup or another payout type.

- Reloaded funds never expire and have no fees.
A bank deposit can be a practical choice when the recipient has a supported account and the quoted arrival time works. Compare its full cost and timing against other available payout methods. Do not assume a bank route is always slower or more expensive: the result depends on the specific provider, route, and transaction. The CFPB’s Circular 2024-02 discusses remittance costs and exchange-rate information.
Money transfer app
An app can make it convenient to start a transfer and review a quote, but the fact that a service is an app does not determine its cost or speed. Check the exchange rate, fee, recipient amount, funding method, payout method, and estimated delivery time for the transaction you plan to make. Treat a promotional quote as specific to its stated terms, not as a permanent price.
Rank #2
For example, compare an app’s quote with other providers’ quotes using identical transfer details. A different funding or delivery option may change the final amount or arrival estimate.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup is a delivery method offered on supported routes. It may suit a recipient who needs cash or cannot use a supported account option. Before choosing it, verify that a participating location is accessible to the recipient and check the quoted timing and any identification or collection requirements for that destination. Availability, local requirements, and cost can vary; do not assume the same rules apply everywhere.

Which option should you choose?
- Choose bank deposit when the recipient can receive money in a supported bank account and its quote and timing suit the transfer.
- Choose an app when it offers a convenient way to send and its transaction-specific quote compares favorably with alternatives.
- Choose cash pickup when cash access is important and the recipient can reach and use a participating pickup location.
In every case, compare the expected recipient amount and confirm the recipient can access the payout before paying. The CFPB’s sending-money resource explains protections for eligible U.S. remittance transfers. For most transfers covered by the U.S. remittance rule, providers generally must disclose the exchange rate, fees and taxes, and expected delivered amount before payment. CFPB guidance says consumers generally may cancel within 30 minutes after paying if the recipient has not picked up or received the money; conditions and exceptions apply. These protections are U.S.-specific and do not establish a worldwide cancellation right.
