Sea of Stars is the clearest match if what you want is a contemporary game that openly invokes classic turn-based RPGs. Its premise centers on two Children of the Solstice, who use sun and moon powers against the creations of the Fleshmancer. Choose Chained Echoes for a war story with fantasy and mechs
Chained Echoes is a story-driven RPG presented in a 16-bit Golden Era style. Its ensemble travels across Valandis to end a conflict between three kingdoms, and its fantasy setting makes room for both dragons and piloted mechanical suits. Octopath Traveler draws on the look of retro 2D RPGs while adding realistic elements in a 3D world. Square Enix also describes side quests and story scenarios that can be resolved in a few different ways. Choose Dragon Quest XI S for a traditional, large-scale adventure
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition offers the familiar structure of classic turn-based battles in a vast world. PlayStation’s listing identifies additions including character-specific scenarios, a choice between original and orchestral soundtracks, Japanese voice acting, and 2D or 3D graphics modes. It is the strongest fit here if you want a broad fantasy adventure and the option to change how it is presented.
