The Best Fitbit Alternatives for Fitness and Health Tracking

The Garmin vívoactive 6 is the strongest all-around Fitbit alternative in the options compared here: it works with Android and iPhone, has built-in GPS, and is listed with up to 11 days of battery life. Choose a different device if you want an iPhone-first smartwatch, a lower-cost band, or a screen-free ring for sleep and recovery. The right pick depends first on your phone, then on whether you need GPS on your wrist, detailed workout tools, or overnight comfort.

Which Fitbit alternative should you choose?

  • For broad fitness tracking and built-in GPS: Garmin vívoactive 6. Its listed runtime is longer than the Apple and Samsung smartwatch figures below, but it is not Garmin’s most precise choice for serious endurance training.
  • For an iPhone smartwatch: Apple Watch SE 3. It combines health and activity features with smartwatch functions, but is designed for iPhone and needs more frequent charging than the Garmin pick.
  • For a basic, lower-cost band: Samsung Galaxy Fit3. It has no built-in GPS, and its iPhone compatibility is unclear in the reviewed guide; verify both phone support and route-tracking behavior before buying.
  • For sleep and recovery without a watch screen: Oura Ring 5. It is a ring rather than a GPS sports watch, offers less detailed workout tracking than a smartwatch, and requires membership for the full experience.
  • For a fuller Samsung-oriented smartwatch: Samsung Galaxy Watch8. It is a broader smartwatch option rather than a direct band replacement, and some features require a Samsung phone.

Compare the main alternatives

Device Best fit GPS and compatibility Published battery figure Important trade-off
Garmin vívoactive 6 Fitness tracking, GPS, and longer intervals between charges Built-in GPS; Android and iOS Up to 11 days, per TechRadar’s 2026 guide Single-band GPS and a previous-generation heart-rate sensor; not Garmin’s most precise option for serious endurance training
Apple Watch SE 3 iPhone smartwatch functions and health/activity features iPhone only Up to 18 hours of normal use, or up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode, per Apple Shorter stated runtime than the Garmin vívoactive 6; not compatible with Android
Samsung Galaxy Fit3 Basic activity tracking in a band form No built-in GPS; guide lists Android/iOS in specs but also says no iPhone compatibility TechRadar’s guide conflicts: 14 days in its specifications and up to 13 days in its review text Verify iPhone support and whether phone-dependent route tracking meets your needs
Oura Ring 5 Screen-free sleep and recovery tracking No GPS; iOS and Android Up to nine days, per TechRadar’s 2026 guide Less detailed workout tracking than a smartwatch; membership required for the full experience
Samsung Galaxy Watch8 A fuller smartwatch for Android users Pairs with Android; some features unavailable on non-Samsung phones Up to 30 hours with Always On Display enabled, per Samsung Feature support varies by phone, and the battery figure is a manufacturer specification rather than a guarantee

These runtime figures come from different manufacturers or a guide, and are not directly comparable test results. Actual battery life depends on settings and use. Prices, feature availability, compatibility, and local stock can also vary by region and change over time.

Garmin vívoactive 6: best broad-use fitness alternative

TechRadar’s guide, updated 7 August 2026, names the vívoactive 6 its overall fitness-tracker pick. It has a GPS receiver, an AMOLED display, heart-rate and activity tracking, and support for both Android and iOS. The guide lists up to 11 days of battery life. Its review highlights fitness tools, comfort, Garmin Connect, PacePro, route navigation, automatic workout detection, and a smart wake alarm. See TechRadar’s fitness tracker guide.

This is a good Fitbit substitute if you want a wrist-worn tracker that can record a route without relying on your phone and offers more workout-oriented tools than a basic band. It is not the automatic choice for every athlete: WIRED notes that its GPS is single-band and that it uses a previous-generation heart-rate sensor. The review also notes one case size, which matters if fit and wrist proportions are a priority. Read WIRED’s vívoactive 6 review.

  • Long battery life: Google Fitbit Air’s battery lasts up to a week, and fast charging gets you one day of battery life in just five minutes[6,7]

Garmin presents the watch’s core tracking experience without a required subscription; WIRED notes optional Connect+ extras. Check which optional services matter to you rather than assuming every Garmin feature has the same fee status.

Apple Watch SE 3: best for iPhone users who want a smartwatch

Apple lists sleep scoring alongside health and activity functions for the SE 3. Its stated battery life is up to 18 hours in normal use and up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode. These are Apple specifications, not promised runtimes for every wearer or setting. See Apple’s Apple Watch SE 3 specifications.

Rank #2
Google Fitbit Inspire 3 - Midnight Zen/Black - Small and Large Bands | Stress management, sleep tracking, 24/7 heart rate, 3-month Google Health Premium membership included, small and large bands
  • Inspire 3 is the tracker that helps you find your energy, do what you love and feel your best – all you have to do is wear it;
  • Compatible with Apple iOS 16.4 or higher and Android OS 11.0 or higher
  • Move more: Stay motivated with a Daily Readiness Score, Active Zone Minutes, all-day activity tracking and 24/7 heart rate, 40+ exercise modes, automatic exercise tracking, and reminders to move
  • Stress less: Keep an eye on your well-being with a daily Stress Management Score, mindfulness sessions, relax breathing sessions, irregular heart rhythm notifications, SpO2, menstrual health tracking, resting heart rate, and more[1,2]
  • Sleep better: Automatic sleep tracking, a daily detailed Sleep Score, smart wake vibrating alarm, and sleep mode help you improve your sleep quality[3]

TechRadar recommends it for iPhone owners and identifies it as iOS-only. Pick it when smartwatch features and iPhone integration matter as much as tracking. If you want to wear a device for several days without charging, compare Apple’s stated runtime with your routine before choosing.

Samsung Galaxy Fit3: a budget band, but check the caveats

The Galaxy Fit3 is a screen-equipped band for basic activity tracking, not a GPS-equipped sports watch. TechRadar says it has no GPS, so do not assume it can record an independent route. A band without onboard GPS may rely on a paired phone for route tracking; confirm the exact behavior for your phone and the activity you plan to track. See TechRadar’s Galaxy Fit3 review.

Google Fitbit Charge 6 - Fitness Tracker - Obsidian/Black | Google apps, heart rate on exercise equipment, 3-month Google Health Premium membership included, small and large bands

  • Tune into your body: Track your response to stress with a stress management score; learn about the quality of your sleep with a personalized nightly Sleep Score; and wake up more naturally with the Smart Wake alarm
  • Run your routine with Google essentials: Find your way seamlessly during runs or rides with turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps on Fitbit Charge 6; and when you need a snack break on the go, just tap to pay with Google Wallet[1,4]
  • Unlock more with Google Health Premium: With a premium membership, get personalized coaching that’s built with Gemini and adapts to your life[7]; get a 3-month trial at no cost to you[5] (Google Health Premium subscription sold separately)

The same guide is inconsistent on two practical buying details: its specification list gives Android/iOS compatibility, while its avoid list says “No iPhone compatibility”; its battery specification says 14 days, while review text says up to 13 days. Those discrepancies do not establish which claim applies to every region or model configuration. Check Samsung’s current compatibility information for your exact phone and confirm the product’s local specifications before purchasing.

Oura Ring 5: choose a ring for sleep and recovery, not GPS workouts

Oura Ring 5 is a screen-free alternative for someone who would rather not wear a watch overnight. TechRadar lists iOS and Android support, heart-rate and activity tracking, no GPS, and up to nine days of battery life. Its guide says membership is required for the full experience and that workout tracking is less detailed than a smartwatch’s. See TechRadar’s fitness tracker guide.

Rank #4
Google Fitbit Air Special Edition Stephen Curry - Screenless Tracker - Rye

  • Long battery life: Google Fitbit Air’s battery lasts up to a week, and fast charging gets you one day of battery life in just five minutes[6,7]

WIRED also describes the ring as focused on activity, sleep, and recovery. Treat it as a different form of wearable with a different emphasis—not as an equivalent replacement for a watch when route tracking or detailed workout data is central. Read WIRED’s Oura Ring 5 review.

Samsung Galaxy Watch8: a smartwatch alternative for Android

Galaxy Watch8 is worth considering if you want smartwatch functionality alongside health and fitness features, but it is a larger category jump from a Fitbit band than the Galaxy Fit3. Samsung says the watch pairs with Android and warns that some features are not available on non-Samsung phones. Its stated battery life is up to 30 hours with Always On Display enabled; Samsung says runtime varies with use. See Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 product information.

How to choose the right replacement

  1. Check phone support first. Apple Watch SE 3 is for iPhone. Garmin vívoactive 6 supports Android and iOS. Samsung watches pair with Android, but some Galaxy Watch8 features need a Samsung phone. For Galaxy Fit3, verify iPhone compatibility because the reviewed guide gives conflicting information.
  2. Decide whether you need GPS on the device. The Garmin vívoactive 6 has built-in GPS; Galaxy Fit3 and Oura Ring 5 do not. If you want route records without carrying your phone, prioritize a device with onboard GPS.
  3. Match the form to your routine. Bands are compact, watches offer a screen and broader smartwatch functions, and Oura’s ring form may suit overnight wear better if you dislike sleeping in a watch. Comfort is personal, so fit and case size deserve attention.
  4. Compare the kind of tracking you will use. Sleep and recovery summaries, heart-rate tracking, basic activity counts, and detailed workout tools are not interchangeable. A ring focused on sleep and recovery will not provide the same workout detail as a smartwatch.
  5. Set realistic battery expectations. Compare the maker’s quoted runtime with your own use, including display settings and GPS workouts. Published maximums are specifications, not guarantees.
  6. Include recurring costs in the decision. Oura requires membership for the full experience. Garmin’s core tracking does not require a subscription, although optional Connect+ extras are available.
  7. Check local availability and price. Prices, regional features, and stock change; confirm current details for your country and exact model before buying.

What wearable tracking can—and cannot—tell you

Wearables can help you follow activity, sleep, and workout patterns, but a feature list or consumer score is not proof of clinical accuracy. Accuracy can differ by metric, fit, activity, and individual; the product information and reviews cited here do not establish a single most accurate device. Do not use a wearable as a substitute for medical evaluation or diagnosis.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
