If Chrome flags revert after a reboot, first check that the flag still exists in your installed Chrome version, set it again at chrome://flags, and select Chrome’s relaunch control. If it still appears to revert, inspect chrome://version for command-line switches, then test with the flags reset or an isolated profile. On a work or school browser, an administrator policy may control the setting.
Confirm the flag is still available
Flags are experimental and can change between Chrome versions. Chromium documentation explains that expired flags may be hidden from the flags page and disabled before they are eventually removed. A flag mentioned in an older guide may therefore no longer be available in your current browser.

- Open
chrome://flagsin Chrome. - Search for the flag by name.
- If it is listed, choose the value you want and select the page’s relaunch control.
Google’s standard instructions require relaunching Chrome for a flag change to take effect. If the flag is absent, it is not a setting you can make persist through the flags page in that version.
Check whether Chrome is being launched with a switch
The flags page does not show every way Chrome can be configured. Google notes that command-line flag settings might not appear at chrome://flags. A launch switch is separate from a setting changed on the flags page, and the two can produce behavior that looks like a reset.

- Open
chrome://version. - Find the Command Line section and review the switches used to launch the running browser.
If a relevant switch appears there, the browser’s launch configuration may be affecting the behavior. The page shows what was used to start Chrome; it does not itself provide a control for editing that configuration.
Reset flags if Chrome is misbehaving
If a flag change has left Chrome behaving unexpectedly, Google’s recommended flags-page recovery is to restore the flags to their defaults and relaunch.

chrome://flags. - Select Reset all.
- Select the relaunch control.
This resets flags to their default values. Reapply only flags that are still available and that you still need. If Chrome continues to have problems, Google advises resetting Chrome settings to default and updating Chrome.

A separate user-data directory lets you test Chrome without relying on the current profile. Chrome for Developers documents this as a way to investigate profile-related problems. It is a diagnostic test, not proof that the profile caused the reset or a guaranteed fix.

Follow Google’s instructions for using a separate user-data directory, then check whether the flag behaves differently in that isolated Chrome instance. Keep the test separate from your normal profile; do not treat a different result as confirmation of a specific cause without further diagnosis.

If Chrome is managed by an employer or school, ask the administrator whether a policy controls the setting. Google advises administrators to use enterprise policies—not experimental flags—to configure Chrome in production. On a managed installation, repeatedly changing a flag may not override the organization’s supported configuration.
