The right UI design tool is the one that fits your team’s full workflow—not simply the one with the most prominent AI features. Compare how each option handles interface design, shared libraries, prototyping, review, developer handoff, platform access, AI usage limits, and the seats your team must pay for. The available vendor information supports different choices for different teams, not a universal winner.
Start with the work your team needs to do
Before comparing product names, write down two or three real tasks your team repeats. For example, a task might run from designing a new flow and reusing existing components through prototype review and developer inspection. Evaluate the whole sequence: a tool that accelerates initial screen creation may still be a poor fit if review, libraries, or handoff do not match how your team works.

Figma describes a product range that includes design, prototyping, developer inspection, and other products. Sketch describes a Mac app for interface design, reusable components and libraries, systems, and prototypes, alongside browser-based viewing, inspection, and comments. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independent test results.

- Pick two or three representative tasks. Include the kind of interface work your team actually does, not only a quick AI demonstration.
- Use realistic participants. Have a designer, a developer, and a reviewer try the relevant parts of each workflow.
- Score the same criteria for every tool. Assess core design work, collaboration, handoff, platform fit, AI workflow and economics, total seat cost, and the tool’s development lifecycle.
- Check the result against your constraints. A strong fit on design features may not offset a required operating system, a seat model that raises costs, or a product lifecycle that does not suit a new team standard.
This is a selection method for your team, not a claim that the products have been tested against one another.

Compare the workflow, platform, and lifecycle
| Option | Design and collaboration model | Platform considerations | Lifecycle consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Figma | Figma’s official product and pricing information describes design, advanced prototyping, Dev Mode inspection, and team libraries on its Professional plan. Its wider product list also includes products for other creative and collaboration tasks. | Check the specific product and plan features your team needs. The supplied official information does not establish a full platform comparison. | Confirm the current plan entitlements and AI-credit rules before committing; vendor terms can change. |
| Sketch | Sketch says its Mac app is for design, reusable components and libraries, systems, and prototypes. Subscription plans include collaboration, comments, handoff, and a shared Workspace. | Design work happens in the Mac app. Its web app supports viewing, inspection, and comments from any browser and platform; its iOS app previews documents and prototypes and can mirror Mac edits. The Mac-only license is for offline local work and excludes collaboration and online sharing. | Choose between a collaborative subscription and the Mac-only license based on the workflow you require. |
| Adobe XD | Adobe identifies XD as a UI/UX design and collaboration tool for websites, mobile apps, and other user experiences. | The cited Adobe FAQ does not provide a current platform comparison for this choice. | Adobe says XD is in maintenance mode: it is not receiving ongoing development or new features, though Adobe says it will continue bug fixes and necessary security or privacy updates. |
Make developer handoff a real test
Ask a developer to inspect a representative design and identify what information they need to implement it. Check whether inspection is available in the plan you are evaluating and whether it requires a separately priced seat. Figma lists Dev Mode inspection and separate Dev seats; Sketch says its subscription plans include handoff. Those descriptions do not establish that either tool will fit every engineering process, so test with your own files and developers.
Treat platform requirements as a gate
If the team needs to do design work on more than Macs, Sketch’s model is a material constraint: its Mac app is where design work happens, while browser users can view, inspect, and comment. If the team can keep design work on Macs but wants browser-based review, that split may fit. Check your own security, procurement, file-storage, and device requirements; the cited vendor material does not settle organization-specific policies.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces
- Complete a wide range of applications with a high-performance motor that delivers up to 300 UWO, and an impact driver delivering up to 1,400 in-lbs of torque
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
Account for product lifecycle
Adobe’s FAQ, last updated September 11, 2026, says XD remains in maintenance mode. Adobe says it is not investing in ongoing development or shipping new features, while continuing bug fixes and security or privacy updates as needed. That makes lifecycle and migration risk important when choosing a new team standard. A team already using XD should verify current support and file requirements before deciding whether to remain on it or move; the available evidence does not quantify the effort of migration.

Evaluate AI as part of the actual workflow
A “UI design tool with AI” should be judged by whether its AI tasks help with work your team needs, and whether the resulting work remains editable and aligned with team libraries and systems. The available vendor sources describe Figma’s shared AI-credit system and its consumption rules, but they do not independently compare output quality, speed, or usefulness across tools.

Understand Figma’s credit limits
Figma’s pricing page lists 150 AI credits per day, up to 500 per month, for Starter. Figma’s help article lists credit allocations by seat and explains that consumption depends on feature and model. The rates on that help page are stated as current as of October 6, 2026. Admins on paid plans can add credits through a subscription or pay-as-you-go option, according to Figma. Do not treat an allocation as a guaranteed amount of useful work: the credits consumed depend on the feature and model used.
For a team, estimate AI use using the tasks and roles that will actually use it. Check the allocation for the relevant seats and plan, how credits are consumed, and what additional use costs under the current terms. A small allowance may be sufficient for occasional tasks but not necessarily for frequent use; the vendor information does not establish a fixed amount of work per credit.

Calculate the cost from your seat mix
Do not compare a single editor price with a per-seat figure without matching billing terms and entitlements. Figma lists separate Professional Full, Dev, and Collab seats. Sketch lists subscription prices per editor, billed yearly, as well as a one-time Mac-only license with a different feature set. The figures below are USD prices reported on the vendors’ pricing pages checked October 7, 2026; they can change.

Choose according to your team’s constraints
- Prioritize a shared design-to-handoff workflow: test whether the plan’s libraries, prototyping, review, and developer inspection cover the path your team uses, and price the required seat types.
- Need Mac-based design with browser review: Sketch’s split between its Mac design app and web review tools may suit that arrangement; include the subscription-versus-local-license trade-off in the decision.
- Already have an Adobe XD workflow: assess current support, file needs, and the implications of maintenance mode rather than assuming new feature development will continue.
- Expect substantial AI use: model credits and potential additional usage using actual team tasks, and verify that outputs fit your editable design system.
- Have strict platform, security, or procurement requirements: treat them as shortlist filters and verify them with the vendor; the cited product descriptions do not resolve organization-specific requirements.
