Use ChatGPT when you want to create a try-on image from a selfie or an item photo in a supported clothing or accessories workflow. Use Amazon Virtual Try-On when an eligible Amazon listing offers a category-specific preview, such as for glasses, shoes, or makeup. Neither option should be treated as a fit or size guarantee, and the official descriptions do not establish an accuracy winner.
How the two virtual try-on experiences work
ChatGPT: a generated image from a selfie or product photo
For supported clothing and accessories listings, ChatGPT’s shopping experience provides a Try on control. Select it, then take or upload a selfie to generate a preview. You can also upload an item image in a conversation and ask ChatGPT to show how it might look. OpenAI says the result is created with ChatGPT Images. Amazon: a set of previews that vary by product category
Amazon Virtual Try-On is not one uniform tool. Amazon describes camera-based augmented-reality previews for eyewear and shoes, and photo-based previews for makeup such as lip color and eyeshadow. Availability depends on the item: look for the Virtual Try-On control on the product page or in the Amazon shopping app. Amazon’s shopping app feature overview and shopping tips describe these options.

These are workflow distinctions, not test results. The official materials do not provide a head-to-head accuracy study or comparable fit outcomes for the two services.

What the previews can—and cannot—tell you
OpenAI explicitly cautions that ChatGPT try-on images may not represent the product or your appearance exactly and do not guarantee fit or size. Treat the image as a visual aid, then check the product’s measurements and details and review the seller’s return policy before buying. Amazon’s feature descriptions explain visual previews, but the cited pages do not establish a fit guarantee or comparative accuracy measurement for Amazon either.
Amazon’s apparel alternative is a different feature
See It On Your Model is Amazon’s separate apparel preview. Amazon describes it as showing eligible clothing on selected real models in sizes XS to 4XL, and lists access through its iOS and Android apps and U.S. mobile browsers. It can help compare a garment’s appearance on different body types, but it is not a personal selfie try-on. Details are in Amazon’s feature overview.

Availability and photo controls
Do not assume either service appears for every product, account, or location. Check the particular listing or app for its try-on control. Amazon’s June 9, 2022 shoe announcement described its launch as available in the U.S. and Canada on iOS; that is historical launch information, not a reliable statement of today’s full availability.
