If ChangeTower is not detecting a website change, first check that the monitor targets the exact page and that its detection rule and selected page area include the content that changed. Then check when it last ran, whether it could access and render the page, and whether alerts are configured for the right recipient. A monitor compares later checks with its initial baseline, so silence before a qualifying change is found may be expected.
1. Check the URL and baseline
Open the monitor and confirm its URL is the full address of the page where the change appears—not just the site’s homepage. A pricing update, product detail, policy page, or account page needs a monitor pointed at that specific page. ChangeTower’s guide to creating a monitor explains that later checks are compared with the initial snapshot: How do I create my first monitor?
The first alert is not a confirmation that the monitor has been created; it arrives after a later check detects a qualifying change. ChangeTower says, “Your first alert only arrives once the page actually changes, so it’s normal to hear nothing for a while.” If the page was already in its current state when the baseline was captured, that state is what future checks compare against.
2. Make sure the detection rule fits the change
Review the monitor’s detection type and criteria. ChangeTower offers broad content-change detection, keyword monitoring, and Smart Monitor criteria. A rule that watches for a particular phrase appearing or disappearing will not necessarily report an unrelated layout or text change; a narrow natural-language condition may likewise exclude changes outside its meaning. See ChangeTower’s monitor setup guidance.

- Used Book in Good Condition
- Use broad content monitoring if any relevant page content change should count.
- Use keyword monitoring when the important event is a specified word or phrase appearing or disappearing.
- Use Smart Monitor when the change should satisfy a natural-language condition, and check that the condition actually describes the change you expect.
3. Inspect the watched area and exclusions
If the monitor is limited to a selected element or ignores parts of the page, verify that the changed content falls inside the watched area and is not excluded. A selector aimed at the wrong section, or an ignored element that contains the target text, can make a real page change irrelevant to the comparison. ChangeTower documents selective monitoring and ignoring frequently changing content such as rotating banners or feeds in its FAQ.
Adjust exclusions carefully: removing them may surface noisy changes, while an overly narrow watched area can hide meaningful ones. After editing scope, use the next check and its snapshot to verify that the intended content is represented.
4. Confirm the page loads in the state you expect
ChangeTower says its checks load pages in a real browser and wait for rendering, including content added by JavaScript or an API after the initial HTML. Dynamic content can still depend on state: login, consent, location, or other interactions may need manual user actions recorded for replay before a check. Its FAQ describes these capabilities and their limits.

A login requirement is not necessarily a blocker if the interaction flow can be recorded, but ChangeTower says a site that blocks automated traffic outright cannot be monitored. The vendor specifically names X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram in that limitation. This is ChangeTower’s documented position, not an independent test of every page or access condition.
5. Check the schedule and last successful check
Open the monitor’s Details settings to review its check interval. ChangeTower’s schedule help lists intervals from every five minutes through every 30 days; which frequencies are available can depend on the account plan. Changes to an existing schedule apply from the next check. Consult the current schedule help page and the options shown in your account.
Rank #3
A longer interval means a longer possible wait before a change is noticed. If a page changes several times between checks, those edits may be grouped into one comparison rather than producing a separate alert for each edit. In the monitor’s notifications or snapshots, look for the most recent successful run and its time; that distinguishes a waiting monitor from one that has not successfully loaded the page. Related troubleshooting topics are collected in ChangeTower’s Help Center.
6. Separate change capture from alert delivery
A snapshot can capture a change even when the expected person does not receive a notification. Confirm email notifications are enabled and the recipient address is correct; if you use Slack, check that the supported route is configured for this monitor. Compare the notification settings with the monitor’s snapshots or history to establish whether the issue is detection or delivery. ChangeTower documents notification options in its FAQ.

7. If it still misses the change
When the preceding checks do not explain the behavior, provide ChangeTower support with enough detail to distinguish scope, access, timing, and delivery. ChangeTower’s help collection includes related support topics, but its documentation does not establish one universal fix for every missed detection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can ChangeTower detect a page that loads content with JavaScript?
ChangeTower says its browser checks wait for pages to render, including JavaScript- or API-supplied content. A particular page can still depend on an interaction or access state that must be configured for the check.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes a missed alert mean ChangeTower did not capture the change?
Not necessarily. Check the monitor’s snapshots or history: a captured change with no expected message points to notification configuration, while no qualifying snapshot points to URL, rule, scope, access, or schedule.
