The available settings and their names can vary by device, app version, and account. Start with Google’s account-wide controls, then check each app on your device.
Start with your Google Account controls
Google’s Privacy Checkup and My Activity provide a central place to review saved activity and related privacy choices. You can inspect activity controls, deletion options, public profile information, and ad personalization. The precise settings shown can depend on your account and Google’s gradual rollout of updated controls.

- Review saved activity: Check which activity categories are being saved and whether you want to pause or delete them.
- Set retention: Where an auto-delete option is available, choose whether to keep records longer or have eligible activity removed automatically.
- Review ad personalization: Decide whether more tailored ads are worth the personalization associated with saved account activity.
- Check Search and Maps controls: Google says updated Search-services settings are rolling out gradually. If you do not see the newer controls, Web & App Activity remains relevant to history and personalized recommendations.
Google describes saved activity as supporting features such as more personalized experiences and faster search. The trade-off is that retaining less activity may reduce some personalization or convenience.

Chrome: review account activity and browser data separately
Chrome privacy involves both your Google Account and data stored by the browser. Google Account activity controls do not necessarily delete Chrome’s locally stored browsing history or other browser data. Review both if you want to remove records from both places.

In Chrome, look in the app’s current settings for its privacy and browsing-data controls. Menu names and locations can change between versions. The secondary article behind this topic also recommends reviewing Web & App Activity, personalized ads, linked third-party apps, third-party cookies, and Do Not Track. Treat those as prompts to inspect what your version offers—not as a guarantee that every option exists or has the same effect on every device.
Incognito mode is limited, not anonymous browsing. Google says Chrome removes Incognito browsing history and cookies after all Incognito windows are closed. That does not mean websites, networks, or every Google service cannot see activity while you browse.

Gboard: check the options available on your device
Open Gboard’s settings and review its privacy- and improvement-related choices. The secondary article names options such as “Share usage Statistics,” “Personalize for you,” “Improve for Everyone,” and “Audio donations,” but those labels and their availability have not been confirmed as current or universal. If you see similarly named controls, read their in-app descriptions before changing them; do not assume a setting shown on another phone applies to yours.

As with other Google services, consider the trade-off between contributing activity for product improvement or personalization and limiting what you share. The specific effect of each Gboard control should be judged from the description displayed in your installed version.

Gemini: review activity, retention, and connected apps
In Gemini, look for the current controls for saved activity, retention or auto-delete, and connected apps. The secondary article refers to Gemini Apps Activity or Keep Activity, audio and Gemini Live video or screen-sharing improvement settings, and connected apps; its exact labels and descriptions were not independently confirmed against current Google documentation. Use the controls and explanations shown in your own app rather than relying on a fixed tap path.
Choose whether keeping activity is useful for your account, and review which connected apps you have authorized. If you change or delete Gemini-related activity, check the app’s own explanation of what the action covers; do not assume it also removes data held elsewhere.

Location controls have limits
Google lets people turn Timeline off, edit or delete it, and set auto-delete. However, turning off or deleting Timeline does not necessarily remove every location-related signal. Google says other services may retain location information, including general-area information or data derived from an IP address. Review the relevant account activity controls as well as Timeline if your goal is to reduce location-related records.

What to check before you finish
- Review Google Account activity and ad choices in Privacy Checkup or My Activity.
- Check Chrome’s own browsing-data controls separately from account activity.
- Use the privacy options and explanations actually present in your installed Gboard and Gemini versions.
- Revisit the settings after app updates or account changes, since labels and availability can change.
