To change how typed text looks in Samsung Notes, select the text and use the formatting toolbar in the note. To change the font across your Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings, search for Font size and style, and choose Font style. These are separate controls: one formats note text; the other changes the device’s font settings.
Which font change do you mean?

The exact font-family controls inside a note are not consistent across Samsung’s support materials: one regional Notes guide lists a text-style control, while Samsung’s US guidance documents device-wide font settings. Check the options on your device rather than assuming every Galaxy model offers the same font choices within a note. Samsung notes that settings can vary by provider, software version, and device model (Samsung support).

Format typed text in the Samsung Notes mobile app
Change text that is already in a note
- Open the note in Samsung Notes.
- Press and hold the text, or select the passage you want to change, until it is highlighted.
- Use the editing or formatting toolbar and choose from the controls shown in your version. Samsung’s regional guide lists text style, font color, text background, and font size, along with list, alignment, and indentation controls (Samsung Notes editing guide).
Set formatting while typing
Tap the text-entry area and use the toolbar beneath it. Text begins with the default formatting; choose the available options in that toolbar to adjust the text you enter. The available controls may differ by app version.

Change the Galaxy phone or tablet font
- Open Settings and search for Font size and style. The exact menu route can vary by device or software version.
- Tap Font style to choose an installed font or download one. Samsung says that selecting Download fonts opens Galaxy Store.
- To make text larger or smaller, adjust the font-size slider on the same settings screen. See Samsung’s font settings instructions.
This is a device font setting, not a way to select and reformat only one passage in a note.

What to check when the toolbar options are missing
- Confirm the text is selected. Formatting selected text requires highlighting the passage first; when typing, look for the toolbar beneath the text-entry area.
- Update Samsung Notes. Samsung cautions that some features may be grayed out or unavailable without the latest version (Samsung Notes organization guidance).
- Allow for device and software differences. Samsung says screens and settings vary by provider, software version, and model. Your toolbar may not match another device’s screenshots.
Samsung Notes on a Samsung PC
The Windows/Samsung PC app has a separate Text mode. Samsung documents controls for font size and color, bold, italic, and underline; lists are also available. These are PC instructions, not a guarantee that the mobile toolbar has the same controls. See Samsung’s PC guide.

Typed text, handwriting, and page appearance are different
- Handwriting: Handwriting and drawing controls are distinct from typed-text formatting. Samsung describes handwriting style changes in terms of size or color, not selecting a typed font family (Samsung PC guidance).
- Page color and templates: These affect the note’s page appearance rather than the formatting of typed text. Samsung’s Notes guidance treats them as page or note options (Samsung Notes editing guide; Samsung Notes organization guidance).
- PDF notes: Samsung says a template cannot be applied to a note imported from PDF. On PC, you can add text boxes to annotate a PDF, but you cannot edit the PDF’s existing text (Samsung Notes organization guidance; Samsung PC guide).
