CH. Karnchang (CK) and STECON are both listed Thai companies with substantial construction businesses, but they are not like-for-like pure-play contractors. CK combines construction contracting with infrastructure investment; STECON is a holding company spanning construction, utilities and power, and logistics and transportation. The clearest comparison is therefore their business models and disclosed project exposure—not a financial ranking based on unmatched periods.
How the two companies are structured
| Company | Business perimeter | What that means for comparison |
|---|---|---|
| CH. Karnchang (CK) | The Stock Exchange of Thailand describes CK as a general contractor serving government agencies, state enterprises, and private entities, as well as an investor in comprehensive infrastructure development. Its 2024 annual report says investments are intended to generate dividends or share of profit. | Construction revenue is only part of the picture; infrastructure investments can contribute income beyond contract work. |
| STECON Group | STECON describes itself as a holding company with core businesses in construction contracting, utilities and power, and logistics and transportation. Its listed holding-company structure was established in 2023 and listed on the SET in 2024 in place of Sino-Thai Engineering. | Its reported group results can include businesses beyond construction, so the reporting perimeter matters when comparing it with CK. |
These descriptions come from the SET CK factsheet and SET STECON factsheet. STECON’s company structure and business description are also set out in its 6M 2026 SET snapshot.

What their construction businesses cover
CK: contracting alongside infrastructure investment
CK’s stated scope connects general contracting with investment in transport and communications infrastructure. Its annual report describes infrastructure holdings as a potential source of longer-term dividend or share-of-profit income, which helps explain why CK’s economics need not track construction contract revenue alone.
STECON: five construction segments and expansion priorities
STECON identifies construction activity across infrastructure, buildings, energy, industry, and environment. In its 6M 2026 snapshot, the company says it is exploring utilities, energy, data centers, water, and logistics, with a stated aim of building recurring income and expanding into growth businesses. These are management’s stated priorities, not proof that each area already contributes material recurring income.

The same snapshot attributes higher first-half 2026 construction contract revenue mainly to data center and clean energy projects. That is the company’s explanation of the period’s growth, rather than an independent assessment of project contribution.
What the disclosed figures do—and do not—show

Because the narrative and table totals differ, the table figures above are identified as such rather than blended with the narrative numbers.

Revenue and net profit also do not, by themselves, show margins or operating cash flow.

Project scale and backlog: dates matter
CK’s 2024 annual report offers dated examples of the scale and collaboration involved in its work. It records major contracts with Bangkok Expressway and Metro for MRT Orange Line civil and M&E works, as well as additional rolling stock and systems for the MRT Blue Line. For Orange Line civil works, the CKST-OR joint operation with Sino-Thai Engineering had CK holding 51% under the agreement. The report gives the CKST-OR contract value as THB 58.95 billion including VAT and an approximate duration of 64 months. These are contract disclosures from 2024, not confirmation of project status today.
The same report states that CK Group’s backlog pending revenue recognition was THB 209,968 million at 31 December 2024 and expected to support revenue growth over the following three years. That is a dated year-end 2024 measure, not a current 2026 backlog figure. A meaningful backlog comparison with STECON would need figures measured at the same date and defined on a comparable basis.
Rank #4
- Built for men and women who run excavators, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes on construction sites, road crews, mines, and demolition jobs.
- Cool operator style for hardworking equipment drivers, foremen, union crews, and contractors.
- Hardcover journal with 240 line-ruled pages (120 sheets)

CK’s report also records a 37.18% CK Group shareholding in Bangkok Expressway and Metro and a 20% interest in Luang Prabang Power Company at year-end 2024. Those dated holdings illustrate the investment dimension of CK’s business; they should not be read as a statement of their present value or current status. Details are in the company’s 2024 annual report (English translation).
Risks and what to compare before drawing a conclusion
Construction profitability can be affected by materials, labor, energy, and transport costs, especially where contracts have fixed prices. STECON’s 6M 2026 snapshot discusses input-cost volatility and its mitigation approach; that does not establish that CK has identical exposure or that either company has managed costs better.
For an investment or business comparison, use matching consolidated reporting periods and check the business perimeter before comparing these measures:
- Revenue and net profit: align the reporting dates and accounting basis; separate construction activity from other group businesses where disclosures allow.
- Margins and cash flow: compare operating profitability and cash generation, not just headline sales or profit.
- Backlog: match the measurement date, recognition definition, and project scope; a 2024 CK backlog cannot be set directly against a differently dated STECON figure.
- Project mix and execution: consider contract duration, project types, cost exposure, and the stage at which revenue is recognized.
- Diversification: distinguish operating businesses and investments already disclosed from stated plans to enter or expand in new areas.
STECON’s investor-relations resource center lists its Q2 2026 report, MD&A, fact sheet, presentation, and 2025 annual report. Those filings, alongside CK’s quarterly statements, are the appropriate basis for a properly aligned financial comparison.
