The dollar figure is a conversion of the reported UK price, not a confirmed US price. The MRG-D5000 is a 20-piece collector watch; the Mudman is the practical model, with activity tracking and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
Why one G-Shock costs about $89,000
The MRG-D5000 Blue Rose Project is the extravagant half of the launch. Tom’s Guide reported on 1 October 2026 that it costs £67,000, approximately $88,600, and that only 20 will be made. Those figures are Tom’s Guide’s report; the dollar amount should not be read as a US MSRP, and the limited run makes this a collector piece rather than a watch with broad retail availability. Sapphire construction and impact protection
According to that report, the bezel and outer case are formed entirely from blue sapphire crystal. The engineering account, attributed there to a Casio press release, describes multiple interacting outer components designed to disperse impacts. It builds on the multi-guard structure introduced with the titanium MRG-B5000 in 2022. The report explains the construction, but does not establish an independently verified Casio US launch price.

The GDG-B100 is the more practical contrast: a rugged watch described as intended for military and first-responder use, with tools for training and activity tracking. Tom’s Guide reported a UK price of £200. That is a UK-reported price, not a promise of the same price or availability in other markets. Tom’s Guide’s report

Durable design and display
The Mudman has a carbon-fiber-reinforced resin case and sealed buttons intended to help keep out mud and dust. Its memory-in-pixel LCD has a red LED backlight. The report lists three styles: all black, dark green with orange accents, and a sand-colored band with a black bezel.
Activity tools and Bluetooth
Its tracking covers distance, speed, pace, calories, steps, and laps. Stopwatch and interval-timer functions add basic training tools. Bluetooth connects the watch to Casio’s Smartphone Link for activity records and phone alerts. Those connected features do not make it a full smartwatch replacement.

- The product video shows "fluorine elastomer band", but this product is a composite band (resin x fine resin with metal parts embedded). It also features a double locking one-push tri-fold clasp with an extension mechanism that allows you to easily adjust the band when wearing a wetsuit
- G-SHOCK "Frogman" series analog display model with ISO standard 200 m submersible waterproofing to support underwater missions
- Dive mode / Tide graph mode to support diving activities: Dive mode to show diving time and surface rest time. Tide graph mode displays tide information anywhere and current time in that city. Analog display of useful functions for diving activities
- Bluetooth Radio Solar: Support Bluetooth, standard radio wave time correction. Equipped with tough solar, it is stable to drive various functions
- Smartphone Link: Dedicated app allows you to easily set tide data around 3000 locations around the world in the app. You can also check the dive logs on your smartphone and enjoy the data measured on the watch side

Where the MRG-D5000 fits in G-Shock’s experimental history
The MRG-D5000 is not the only unusually ambitious G-Shock project. Casio’s G-D001 Dream Project #2 was a separate 40th-anniversary one-off in 2023, made from 18-karat yellow gold and offered through a charity auction. Casio’s UK page describes that historical watch as one worldwide; that figure belongs to the G-D001, not to the MRG-D5000. Casio G-SHOCK UK’s G-D001 page

The G-D001’s gold construction and one-off status provide context for G-Shock’s experimental projects, but it is not one of the two new watches in this comparison.

Which one is relevant to most buyers?
The MRG-D5000’s reported £67,000 price and 20-piece run place it in collector territory. The GDG-B100 is the model to investigate if you want a rugged watch with built-in activity tools and phone-linked records and alerts. Before buying, check current price, release status, and stock with Casio or a local retailer; the reported UK price does not establish availability in another country.
