Capsize is described as a small C++ and Qt desktop application that turns live audio into shader-driven visuals. Its reported features include a CRT-style presentation, a floating mode for keeping visuals beside another app, and mappings that let one audio signal influence related shader scenes. The project article is a walkthrough of the design, not a verified compatibility or performance report.

How Capsize connects audio and visuals

In the project article, author w4ffl35 describes a pipeline in which live audio feeds visual scenes rendered through shaders. A shader can use audio-derived input to alter a visible property, making sound an input to the visual design rather than merely something playing alongside it.

The article’s central design guidance is to connect an audio feature to a visible parameter and keep that relationship understandable in the effect or shader configuration. When related effects share a signal but express it differently, each scene can have its own appearance without requiring an entirely separate audio source. This is the author’s approach, not an independently measured engineering result.

The author sums up the project’s aim this way: “That is the balance I want from the project: a small program people can use tonight, with enough structure that the next visual idea has somewhere to go.”

What the reported features are for

CRT presentation

The project article reports recent work on a CRT presentation. It identifies the visual treatment but does not specify its controls, implementation, or supported display modes.

Floating mode

Floating mode is presented as a way to keep the visualizer beside another application instead of taking over the full screen. The source does not establish how window sizing, always-on-top behavior, or other window controls work.

Cross-shader audio mappings

The article describes mappings that let a shared audio signal influence related scenes. Its practical design point is to keep each mapping legible: one audio feature should have a clear visual consequence, even when multiple effects use the input.

This is a general Qt integration example, not a verified Capsize build recipe. The available project article does not identify which Qt Multimedia classes Capsize uses, or whether its audio input is implemented through that module. Qt’s APIs explain the framework context for building C++ multimedia software; they do not establish the project’s internal architecture.

What to consider when building a Qt audio application

Qt documents that multimedia behavior can vary by platform and backend. In Qt 6.12, FFmpeg is the default backend on most listed platforms, with exceptions including WebAssembly and embedded Linux/Boot2Qt; native backends are also available with varying limitations. Qt advises testing multimedia applications on their target platforms.

  • Deployment: account for the media components and, where applicable, FFmpeg binaries needed by the chosen Qt setup.

These are Qt-level considerations, not confirmed Capsize requirements or a compatibility list for the project.
