To stop Google Workspace billing, an administrator must cancel the subscription in the Admin console; that does not, by itself, delete the organization’s Google Account. If you also want to remove the organization, that is a separate step. Before either action, decide what data, users, and domain access must remain.
Choose what you actually need to delete
“Delete a Google Workspace account” can mean several different things. The right action depends on whether you want to stop charges, remove the organization, remove one team member, or close a personal Google Account.

- Stop Workspace charges: Cancel the Workspace subscription. The organization, users, and groups remain.
- Remove the organization: Cancel the subscription first, then separately delete the organization’s Google Account. Review other subscriptions and organization data before doing so.
- Remove one Essentials team member: Remove that user from the team; this is not the same as deleting the organization.
- Close a personal Google Account: Use the consumer account deletion settings, not the Workspace billing workflow.
Cancel a Google Workspace subscription
These steps apply to administrators managing a subscription in Google’s Admin console. You need the Billing Management administrator privilege. If Workspace was purchased through a reseller, Google directs customers to use the reseller-specific cancellation process instead. See Google’s cancellation guidance.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Sign in to the Google Admin console with an administrator account that has Billing Management privileges.
- Export data you want to keep. Google recommends its Data Export tool and names Gmail messages, Calendar events, Chat messages, and Drive files as examples. Export before submitting cancellation: data may be deleted and may not be recoverable, depending on the cancellation option.
- Check third-party apps separately. Their data is not automatically deleted when Workspace is canceled. Export any data you need, and check whether you can still sign in to those apps after cancellation.
- Open Billing > Subscriptions, select the Google Workspace subscription, and choose Cancel Subscription.
- Choose a cancellation reason, review the confirmation and the data consequences, then submit the account email when prompted to confirm.
Understand the data choices
The options depend on the subscription and verification type, so follow the choices currently shown in the Admin console. For an email-verified subscription, Google describes an option to keep users’ My Drive data while deleting the organization’s account; user accounts are converted to unmanaged consumer accounts. Another option deletes user and shared-drive data, a process that can take up to 90 days. Do not assume that canceling will preserve the data you need.

Delete the organization after cancellation
Canceling does not automatically delete the organization’s Google Account. If you want the organization gone as well, Google says an administrator can delete that account separately after cancellation. Before proceeding, review billing records, user data, Marketplace apps, Google Cloud data, other subscriptions, zero-touch accounts, and Android EMM bindings. The exact Admin console navigation for organization deletion is not established in Google’s cancellation guidance, so use the current instructions presented in your Admin console rather than relying on a guessed click path.
For the domain-verified case described by Google, deleting the organization’s account frees the domain for use with a new Google Account within 24 hours. This timing should not be generalized to other subscription or verification types. Google’s full Workspace cancellation guidance explains the related outcomes and cautions.

Remove one person from an Essentials team
If you only need to remove a member, do not delete the organization. Google’s Essentials team guidance says removing a user converts the account to a consumer Google Account. An administrator can choose to transfer files and calendar data during removal. If data is not transferred, the user keeps ownership of items such as Drive files, and the team loses the ability to manage them.
Delete a personal Google Account
A personal Google Account is separate from a Workspace organization subscription. For a consumer account, Google’s path is Data & Privacy > Your data & privacy options > More options > Delete your Google Account. Review and download anything you need first, and change the sign-in address on banking, social media, and other services that use it. Deletion removes the account’s data and ends access to associated services. Read Google’s account deletion guidance before confirming.

Check these points before you confirm
- Confirm the scope: subscription, organization, one Essentials user, or personal account.
- Identify the data that must survive and who should own it afterward.
- Check whether you have a domain-verified or email-verified subscription, or an Essentials edition; available workflows and data outcomes differ.
- Review third-party apps and any other Google subscriptions or organization services that may still be in use.
- If domain reuse matters, verify that your case matches Google’s domain-verified timing before planning around a release window.
