A PC that meets every minimum item matches the publisher’s minimum tier; the listing does not promise a particular resolution, graphics preset, or frame rate at that tier.
The steps below show where to find each specification in Windows, how to interpret GTX 1060 and RX 580 variants, and which upgrades move a system toward the recommended configuration.

Official DREADMOOR system requirements
The official Steam listing (accessed October 19, 2026) separates the requirements into minimum and recommended tiers. Treat the rows as a checklist: a shortfall in one component means the computer does not match the corresponding published tier, even if the other parts are faster.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended | What to record from your PC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating system and architecture | Windows 10 or higher; 64-bit processor and operating system | Windows 10 or higher; 64-bit processor and operating system | Windows edition/version and whether Windows is 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600 | Exact CPU model, including its suffix |
| System memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM | Installed RAM capacity |
| Graphics processor | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 with 8 GB | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or AMD Radeon RX 7600 | Exact GPU model and dedicated video memory |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 | DirectX version shown by Windows and hardware support |
| Storage | 60 GB available space | 60 GB available space | Free space on the drive where you will install the game |
| Audio | DirectX-compatible sound card with the latest drivers | DirectX-compatible sound card with the latest drivers | Sound device status and driver condition |
The recommended GPU row does not state a VRAM capacity, so do not invent one or reject a card solely because the listing omits that figure. Likewise, the requirements specify capacity and models, not a target frame rate.

1. Check Windows and confirm 64-bit support
Use Settings
- Open Start > Settings > System > About.
- Under Windows specifications, note the edition and version. The published minimum is Windows 10 or newer.
- Under Device specifications, find System type. It should identify a 64-bit operating system and a 64-bit processor.
A 32-bit installation does not match the stated requirement, even if the processor itself is physically capable of 64-bit operation. If Settings is difficult to navigate, press Win+R, enter winver, and record the Windows version; then open Settings > System > About for the architecture line.
Cross-check with System Information
- Press
Win+R, typemsinfo32, and press Enter. - In System Summary, read System Type. “x64-based PC” indicates a 64-bit platform.
- Record the Processor entry exactly. Do not shorten a model name, because suffixes and generation numbers distinguish different CPUs.
If the machine is still running an older Windows release, upgrading the operating system may address the operating-system row, but it cannot turn an underpowered CPU or GPU into a qualifying one. Recheck all hardware fields after any operating-system change.
2. Find the exact CPU, GPU, VRAM, and RAM
Task Manager method
- Right-click the taskbar and choose Task Manager. Select More details if the compact view is shown.
- Open the Performance tab and select CPU. Record the complete processor name shown at the top right.
- Select Memory and record the installed capacity. The minimum comparison is 8 GB; the recommended comparison is 16 GB.
- Select each GPU entry. Record the model name and the Dedicated GPU memory value. If the PC has integrated and discrete graphics, note both and identify which output the game will use.
Use dedicated memory for the GPU comparison. “Shared GPU memory” is system RAM that Windows can lend to graphics workloads; it is not the dedicated VRAM specified for the GTX 1060 and RX 580 minimum options. A card advertised only by a family name is not enough—write down the full model and memory variant.

Optional hardware-information cross-check
DirectX Diagnostic Tool and System Information can confirm names, while the graphics card’s own driver panel can provide another model readout. When two tools disagree, shut down background hardware-monitoring utilities and verify the physical card or the computer manufacturer’s specification before deciding that the system passes.
3. Confirm DirectX 12 and audio compatibility
Run DirectX Diagnostic Tool
- Press
Win+R, enterdxdiag, and press Enter. - On the System tab, read DirectX Version. DREADMOOR lists DirectX 12 for both tiers.
- Open the Display tabs and check that the listed GPU matches the card you recorded in Task Manager. Review the notes area for driver or device errors.
- Open the Sound tabs and confirm that Windows detects the active sound device without an error. The requirement calls for a DirectX-compatible sound card with the latest drivers.
Seeing “DirectX 12” in the tool is necessary for the published requirement, but it is not a performance rating. The tool does not establish a frame-rate result, and the Steam listing does not provide one either. If the display device or sound device reports an error, install the current driver supplied through Windows Update or the hardware maker, restart, and run dxdiag again.

4. Verify the 60 GB storage requirement
- Open File Explorer > This PC.
- Locate the drive on which you intend to install DREADMOOR and read the free-space figure beneath the drive icon.
- Make sure at least 60 GB is available before installation. If you use a separate library drive, check that drive rather than relying on the free space on the Windows system drive.
You can also open Settings > System > Storage to see a breakdown of space use and remove unwanted files. The official listing specifies capacity, not a solid-state-drive requirement. An internal SSD is a practical upgrade for a game library, but installing on an SSD is not stated as a condition of meeting the published minimum.
5. Compare every field instead of guessing from one component
After recording the specifications, mark each row as pass, below minimum, or unknown. The minimum decision is an all-rows test: every listed item must meet or exceed the minimum. For a recommended-tier comparison, use the separate recommended CPU, GPU, and RAM rows rather than assuming that a minimum-tier part will deliver recommended-tier performance.
Recommended Free Tools
| Check | Minimum pass condition | Recommended comparison | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows and architecture | Windows 10 or newer and 64-bit processor/OS | Same requirement | Counting a 32-bit Windows installation as 64-bit because the CPU is modern |
| CPU | Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600 class listed by the publisher | Core i5-12400F or Ryzen 5 5600 | Comparing only clock speed or core count while ignoring the exact model |
| RAM | 8 GB installed | 16 GB installed | Confusing free memory with total installed memory |
| GPU and VRAM | GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB | RTX 4060 or RX 7600; VRAM amount not stated | Assuming every GTX 1060 variant meets the 6 GB condition |
| DirectX | DirectX 12 support | DirectX 12 support | Reading the API version without checking for display-driver errors |
| Storage | At least 60 GB free on the installation drive | At least 60 GB free | Checking a different drive than the one used for the game |
| Audio | DirectX-compatible sound card and latest drivers | Same requirement | Ignoring a disabled or error-state sound device |
If a value is missing, label it unknown and verify it before purchase. Do not treat an unknown field as a pass.
Can a GTX 1060 or RX 580 run DREADMOOR?
GeForce GTX 1060
The official minimum names a GTX 1060 with 6 GB. A GTX 1060 fitted with 6 GB meets the GPU model-and-memory wording of the minimum row, provided the rest of the PC also passes. A 3 GB GTX 1060 does not satisfy that specific 6 GB requirement. Check Task Manager or the graphics driver panel rather than relying on a retailer listing or the “GTX 1060” name alone.
Radeon RX 580
The alternative minimum is a Radeon RX 580 with 8 GB. An 8 GB RX 580 matches the stated GPU-and-memory condition when the CPU, RAM, DirectX, operating system, storage, and audio requirements also pass. RX 580 cards with a different memory capacity should not be described as meeting the published minimum without further evidence.

- Processor specifications: Adopting AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor, with a basic clock speed of 3.5GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.4GHz, it can achieve fast response computing performance
- Graphics Card: Features GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card with 6GB dedicated video memory for gaming and multimedia applications
- Memory configuration: Equipped with 32GB DDR4 RAM (16GB * 2), providing sufficient memory capacity for multitasking and demanding applications

What these matches do not promise
Neither card is accompanied by an official resolution, graphics preset, or frames-per-second target in the Steam listing. Passing the GPU row therefore means only that the card matches the publisher’s stated minimum specification; it is not a guarantee of 1080p, 60 frames per second, a particular quality preset, or stutter-free play.

Minimum tier
A system in the minimum tier has all of the following: Windows 10 or newer in 64-bit mode, a Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600-class processor as listed, 8 GB RAM, the specified GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB, DirectX 12, 60 GB free space, and a DirectX-compatible sound card with current drivers. This is a requirements match, not a measured benchmark result.
Recommended tier
The recommended comparison raises the processor to an Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, doubles memory to 16 GB, and lists an NVIDIA RTX 4060 or AMD Radeon RX 7600. Windows, DirectX, storage, and audio remain the same categories. Because no performance target is published, use “recommended” as the developer’s higher hardware tier rather than a promise of a particular visual setting.
Upgrade paths when a PC falls short
| Shortfall | Published target | Practical action | Limit of the evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | RTX 4060 or RX 7600 for recommended; GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB for minimum | Replace the GPU with one of the listed models or a demonstrably stronger compatible card, after checking power supply, case clearance, and connectors. | The listing does not provide FPS or settings results for any card. |
| Memory | 8 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended | Install enough compatible RAM to reach 16 GB when aiming for the recommended tier. | Capacity alone does not establish game performance. |
| Processor | Core i5-8400/Ryzen 5 2600 minimum; Core i5-12400F/Ryzen 5 5600 recommended | If your exact CPU is below the minimum comparison, plan a platform upgrade rather than relying on GPU replacement alone. | Do not infer equivalence from clock speed alone. |
| Storage | 60 GB available | Free at least 60 GB on the installation drive. An internal SSD is a sensible storage upgrade, but it is not explicitly required. | No separate SSD requirement is stated. |
Upgrades must be compatible with the rest of the machine. For example, a new graphics card may require a stronger power supply or more case space, while a newer processor may require a different motherboard and memory type. Those compatibility checks are separate from DREADMOOR’s published requirements.

Windows or architecture fails
Install a supported 64-bit Windows release only if the hardware supports it and you can preserve your files and applications. If the processor or motherboard cannot run a 64-bit operating system, the computer cannot meet the stated platform requirement through a software setting alone.

CPU fails
Verify the model in msinfo32 and Task Manager, including the generation and suffix. If it is below the listed Core i5-8400/Ryzen 5 2600 minimum comparison, record the PC as below the published minimum even when the GPU is newer.
RAM fails
Check the total installed value under Task Manager’s Performance > Memory. If it is below 8 GB, add compatible memory before treating the system as a minimum match. Recheck the total after installation.
GPU or VRAM fails
Confirm that the game is assigned to the discrete GPU, then verify the exact model and dedicated-memory figure. A GTX 1060 with 3 GB, for example, is not the 6 GB variant named in the minimum row. If the card is below the minimum, replacing it is the direct remedy.
DirectX or driver check fails
Run dxdiag again after updating display and sound drivers and restarting Windows. Persistent device errors indicate that the hardware or driver stack still needs attention; a DirectX version label by itself does not clear those errors.
Storage fails
Free space on the actual installation drive by removing unnecessary files or moving other games. Recheck File Explorer after cleanup and keep the full 60 GB available before starting the installation.

How to compare two PCs
When choosing between two computers, compare the same fields in the same order rather than judging by a single headline component.
- Confirm that both systems run Windows 10 or newer in 64-bit mode.
- Write down each exact CPU model and classify it against the minimum and recommended CPU rows.
- Record each GPU model and dedicated VRAM, paying particular attention to the 6 GB GTX 1060 and 8 GB RX 580 conditions.
- Compare installed RAM: 8 GB is the minimum figure and 16 GB is the recommended figure.
- Use
dxdiagto verify DirectX 12 and check display and sound-device errors. - Check free space on the drive that will hold the game and confirm at least 60 GB.
The better choice is the one that clears more of the recommended rows without creating a new compatibility problem such as inadequate power delivery, unsupported memory, or insufficient storage.
