Yes—as a viewer, you can use YouTube’s Ambient mode while watching a fireplace livestream wherever the setting is available. It adds a colored glow around the player based on the video; it does not change the stream itself or keep a broadcast running. A creator needs a separate streaming setup to keep a fireplace feed live.
What Ambient mode does—and what it does not do
YouTube describes Ambient mode as a lighting effect that casts colors from the video into the screen’s background. It is a player display effect, not part of the pixels sent by the channel. YouTube’s Ambient mode instructions document it as a viewer-controlled watch-page setting.

- As a viewer: Ambient mode may add a glow around the fireplace video when enabled and available in your YouTube player.
- As a creator: Turning Ambient mode on does not add that glow to the broadcast for everyone. Viewers can have the setting disabled or unavailable.
- For a 24/7 broadcast: Ambient mode is not an encoder, stream key, or continuity setting. The channel must send a live feed to YouTube separately.
How to enable or disable Ambient mode
On a computer
YouTube’s desktop instructions say Ambient mode is automatically enabled when Dark theme is on. To turn it off, open Settings on the watch page and toggle Ambient mode. The same control lets you turn it back on.

What creators need for a continuous fireplace stream
A 24/7 fireplace stream requires a separate production and streaming workflow, such as an encoder sending a pre-produced visual to YouTube. Ambient mode does not configure that workflow. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion, monitoring stream health, and choosing encoder settings that suit the available upload connection. It recommends RTMPS, and its bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so there is no single bitrate that fits every setup.
See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and its live streaming tips when configuring the feed. The player’s Ambient mode toggle is not an encoder setting.

Plan separately for archives and rewind
Automatic archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A 24/7 stream therefore should not be relied on to produce a complete automatic archive. Keep a separate recording if preserving the video matters. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDVR rewind
DVR is distinct from archiving. For very long streams, YouTube says viewers’ ability to rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Check YouTube’s DVR guidance if rewind is important to your audience.

Check music rights before going live
If the fireplace video includes music, make sure the channel has the rights needed to use it in a livestream. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the provider to have rights for live content, including applicable music licensing rights.
