Yes. On Windows, select or focus the item and press Shift+F10 to open its context menu. On a Chromebook, you can enable a keyboard-and-touchpad right-click option. The right method depends on your operating system and the item you want to open the menu for.
Open a context menu on Windows
Select or move keyboard focus to the item, then press Shift+F10. Microsoft lists this shortcut as displaying the context menu for the selected item: Microsoft Support’s Windows keyboard shortcuts.

The item needs to be selected or focused; Shift+F10 is not a general command to open a menu for whatever happens to be under the mouse pointer. If F10 controls a media or hardware feature instead, your laptop may require an Fn-layer action to send F10. The exact key combination varies, so check the laptop maker’s instructions.

Chromium documents Shift+F10 as an alternative to the Context Menu key for controls that have a context menu. This applies to controls that expose one; it does not guarantee the same result for every webpage element or application. See Chromium’s keyboard-access guidance.

Do not confuse this with shortcuts that focus the browser’s own menu button or page menu. Those navigate browser menus rather than opening the context menu for a selected page item.
Right-click with a Chromebook keyboard and touchpad
ChromeOS offers a keyboard-and-touchpad right-click setting. Google says it is off by default for new users, so enable it if the shortcut does not work:

- Open Settings.
- Select Device, then Touchpad.
- Under Use keyboard and touchpad to right-click, choose Search/Launcher + click or Alt + click.
These are Chromebook right-click options, not Windows instructions. Google’s steps are available in its Chromebook touchpad help.

The Menu key and Shift+F10 are generally used here to open a selected item’s context menu—the menu of actions associated with that item. Windows also lists F10 as a way to activate the menu bar in the active app. That is a different function and does not replace Shift+F10 when you want the selected item’s context menu.

Do you need an external keyboard?
No—not if the shortcut or Chromebook option works for you. An external keyboard with a dedicated Context Menu key is another possible input method, and Chromium recognizes that key for supported controls. Compatibility depends on the operating system and application; no specific keyboard model or price is established here.

- Check focus: select or keyboard-focus the item first; the Windows shortcut is for the selected item.
- Check the function-key layer: if F10 triggers a laptop feature, consult the manufacturer’s instructions for sending F10.
- Check the app and target: context-menu support varies. Chromium’s guidance covers controls with context menus, not every page element.
- On a Chromebook, check the setting: enable one of the listed keyboard-and-touchpad combinations in Touchpad settings.
These instructions cover Windows, Chromium controls, and ChromeOS. They do not establish a universal shortcut for macOS, every Linux desktop, or every application.
