Steam Frame’s own headset tracking is inside-out, not Lighthouse. Valve’s documentation does not describe native Lighthouse tracking for the headset. Whether separate Lighthouse body trackers can work alongside Steam Frame in a PC-driven SteamVR setup is a different question—and a compatible pairing or setup procedure has not been confirmed in the sources available.
What Steam Frame tracks—and how
Valve describes Steam Frame as an inside-out-tracked standalone headset. In this arrangement, sensors on the headset observe the surrounding environment to track the headset’s position. Valve’s Steamworks documentation positions the device for SteamVR and OpenXR, but does not describe native Lighthouse tracking for the headset.

Valve also says the included controllers are tracked by the headset on its Steam Frame product page. That is distinct from a Lighthouse system: the presence of SteamVR support does not establish that the headset can use base stations to locate its own pose.
PC Gamer reported four outward-facing cameras and no outside-in Lighthouse support in its coverage of Valve’s announcement. That report describes the headset’s tracking approach; it does not settle whether separate body trackers can be used alongside it.

Can separate Lighthouse body trackers work with Steam Frame?
Possibly, but compatibility is unconfirmed. Lighthouse trackers are separate devices that can be attached to a person or object to represent its movement in VR or on a stream. Their general purpose does not prove that a particular tracker can pair, synchronize, or calibrate with Steam Frame.
PC Gamer’s reporting on Lighthouse hardware describes trackers such as HTC Vive Tracker 3.0, but the reviewed material does not document a Steam Frame pairing workflow. SteamFrameHub likewise says accessory compatibility needs confirmation: its Steam Frame FAQ is a secondary source, not official compatibility guidance.

- Includes One base station and one power adapter per order
- Fits standard threaded mounting points
- Cord: 8' 2'' L
- Compatible with Vive Pro, Vive Pro Eye, Vive Pro 2 and Vive Cosmos Elite headsets
So, if your goal is full-body tracking, do not buy a Vive Tracker 3.0 or Lighthouse base stations on the assumption they will work with Steam Frame. They are relevant products to investigate, not a verified Steam Frame recommendation. The available documentation also does not establish a definitive receiver, PC, base-station, or calibration checklist for this combination.

What to check before buying
- Separate headset tracking from body tracking. Steam Frame’s inside-out system addresses headset pose. Full-body tracking asks whether additional devices can track body points alongside it.
- Look for device-specific confirmation. Seek current official documentation or a well-documented test of the exact Steam Frame, tracker, and SteamVR configuration—not a general claim that a device works with SteamVR.
- Confirm the complete setup, not just the tracker name. A working arrangement may depend on system requirements and calibration, but the reviewed Steam Frame sources do not establish those details for Lighthouse trackers.
- Treat accessory-port discussion as possibility, not support. PC Gamer quoted Valve engineer Jeremy Selan discussing the expansion port: “We have an expansion port that allows for high speed camera information as well as for data, right?” The report says Valve was not announcing accessories at that time. This is not a promise of Lighthouse support.
Is there a possible alternative?
In September 2026, PC Gamer reported that Soulart said it was working to support Steam Frame with an independent motion tracker: PC Gamer’s VR reporting. That is a report of work in progress, not evidence that a compatible product or complete setup is currently available. Check for a concrete product announcement and Steam Frame-specific setup documentation before treating it as an option.

- Body tracking-track the physical presence of your entire body within the virtual environment. Captures full-body motions
- Accessory tracking-enable the tracking of real-world objects to Increase the realism of your simulation or training experience
- Fits standard threaded mounting points
- Data port sharing-in addition to providing power, the USB port can be used to input Controller button events
- Steamvr tracking-provides sub-millimeter accuracy for the best experience possible
Bottom line for a Steam Frame buyer
Steam Frame is documented as an inside-out-tracked headset, and Valve’s available documentation does not describe Lighthouse base stations tracking the headset itself. Separate Lighthouse trackers for full-body tracking are a different use case, but their compatibility and setup with Steam Frame remain unconfirmed. Until device-specific documentation or a reliable tested setup appears, treat a Lighthouse kit as an unverified add-on—not something you can assume will work.
