There is no confirmed, independent Space Calibrator alternative for using SteamVR Tracking (often called Lighthouse) trackers with Valve’s Steam Frame. Valve says Steam Frame uses inside-out tracking and that it is not working on support for base stations. SteamVR compatibility alone does not give the headset native base-station tracking.
The closest documented variation is a Linux port of OpenVR Space Calibrator, not a separate calibration tool—and its author does not claim Steam Frame compatibility. Treat any proposed setup as unverified and dependent on its headset, runtime, trackers, and software configuration.

What Valve says about Steam Frame and base stations
Valve’s developer documentation describes Steam Frame as integrating inside-out tracking. Its compatibility with SteamVR and OpenXR should not be read as a statement that the headset natively tracks SteamVR Tracking base stations. In a Steam Frame FAQ dated February 5, 2026, Valve answered the question “Will Steam Frame work with lighthouse base stations?” by saying: “It’s not something we’re working on, but we built Steam Frame to be modular and extensible so that the community and 3rd parties can build out the features and accessories that are important to them.” The FAQ republishes Valve’s statement. The openness to community accessories is not a promise that a particular accessory or software solution exists or works. The FAQ and Valve’s response.

Which options are actually documented?
| Option | What it does or documents | Steam Frame status |
|---|---|---|
| Space Calibrator for Windows | Free Steam software for calibrating mixed-vendor devices in SteamVR. Its listing describes one-time calibration by moving a controller and tracker together, as well as continuous calibration using a tracker attached to the VR headset. The listing specifies Windows 10/11. | Steam Frame is not named as a supported headset. Steam listing. |
| OpenVR Space Calibrator Linux port | A community-maintained Linux port, with setup instructions requiring SteamVR and separately launched companion software. Its repository discusses ALVR, SteamVR, Lighthouse, and mixed VR setups. | The project does not specifically verify Steam Frame compatibility, and it is a port of Space Calibrator rather than an independent alternative. Project repository. |
| Space Calibrator 2.0 open beta | The project’s community page describes a rewrite aimed at improving robustness and consistency, with project-reported calibration and error-detection improvements. It also mentions Linux logging support and base-station management when using a supported BLE adapter. | These beta notes do not establish a distinct alternative or Steam Frame compatibility. Community project page. |
| MoToC | The Linux port directs Monado/WiVRn users toward MoToC. | The available project information does not establish MoToC as a Steam Frame solution. Project repository. |
How Space Calibrator’s documented workflows differ
One-time calibration
The Steam listing describes moving a controller and tracker together in a figure-eight motion so the software can calibrate their relationship. This is the documented standard workflow for aligning devices from different tracking systems; the listing gives Quest and Pico examples, not Steam Frame. Space Calibrator on Steam.
Continuous calibration
The same listing describes attaching a tracker to the VR headset for continuous calibration. That is a workflow to investigate if a supported configuration drifts, but the documentation does not confirm a specific tracker model—or the workflow itself—with Steam Frame. The Linux port uses a Vive Tracker as an example tracked device, which likewise is not a Steam Frame compatibility claim. Steam listing; Linux port repository.

What to check before trying a mixed-tracking setup
- Host operating system and runtime: the Steam listing specifies Windows 10/11. The Linux port describes a separate Linux setup involving SteamVR and companion software. Do not assume the Windows listing covers Linux or that either listing covers Steam Frame.
- Project relationship: the Stavdel project calls itself a Linux port of OpenVR Space Calibrator. The beta page describes a rewrite of Space Calibrator. Neither is evidence of a separate, proven Steam Frame utility.
- Calibration method: decide whether the documented one-time controller-and-tracker calibration or headset-mounted continuous calibration matches the setup you intend to test.
- Drift and movement: the Linux port warns that results depend on hardware and that wireless headsets with Lighthouse trackers may drift during extensive room-scale movement. It presents continuous calibration as a possible mitigation; this is the project author’s guidance, not an independent test.
- Specific hardware: check the exact headset, tracker, base stations, runtime, and software version together. The available documentation does not confirm a particular tracker model with Steam Frame.
Valve’s SteamVR Tracking licensing page gives a general tracking-rate range of 250 Hz to 1 kHz. That vendor specification is not a Steam Frame or named-tracker performance guarantee, and it does not show that one calibration utility is more accurate than another. No controlled comparison or benchmark for Steam Frame calibration alternatives is established in the sources cited here. Valve’s SteamVR Tracking documentation.

If you need a documented tool today, Space Calibrator is the reference workflow in the available materials; for Linux, the Stavdel project is its port. Neither has confirmed Steam Frame support. Valve’s stated position also means readers should not assume base-station support is planned for the headset itself. A community accessory or software configuration may emerge, but it needs a verified report naming the Steam Frame setup, tracker models, runtime, and calibration software version before it can be treated as compatible.
