Yes—an Xbox Wireless Controller can work with supported Windows PCs, Android and iOS devices, and Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S consoles. Bluetooth and a compatible cable are common ways to connect, but support depends on the controller revision, the device and its operating system, and whether the game accepts controller input. Microsoft does not list PlayStation or Nintendo consoles as compatible.
Which devices can use an Xbox controller?
Microsoft lists its current Xbox Wireless Controller for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, Windows PCs, Android devices, and iOS devices, subject to select device and operating-system compatibility. Its documentation also lists Bluetooth for compatible Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, tablets, and Android and iOS devices. How to connect one to a Windows PC
For a supported Windows PC, choose among Bluetooth, a compatible USB cable, or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows. Bluetooth can avoid an accessory; a cable gives you a wired connection; the adapter is an optional Xbox Wireless route. Microsoft identifies the Xbox Wireless Controller as an example of a controller compatible with Windows Game Input.

- Bluetooth: Confirm your controller revision supports Bluetooth and your PC supports it. Put the controller into pairing mode, then open Windows Bluetooth settings and select it from the available devices. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are listed for Bluetooth use with compatible controllers.
- USB: Connect the controller to the PC using a cable that fits its port. The current controller uses USB-C, but check the port on your specific model before choosing a cable. Microsoft describes wired use with its Xbox Wireless Controller USB-C cable.
- Xbox Wireless Adapter: Follow the setup instructions for the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows if you want that wireless connection. It is not required when Bluetooth or a cable meets your needs.
Connecting successfully does not guarantee that every PC game will use the controller. Check the game’s input settings or support information; Steam also cautions that not every Steam game supports controller use in its Big Picture documentation.
How to connect one to a phone or Apple device
Compatible Xbox controllers connect wirelessly over Bluetooth to supported Android and Apple devices. Make sure both the controller generation and device operating system are supported, then put the controller into pairing mode and select it in the device’s Bluetooth settings. Pairing only establishes the connection: the game or app must also support controller input.

Microsoft’s compatibility information lists Xbox consoles, not PlayStation or Nintendo consoles. The manufacturer documentation cited here therefore does not establish native Xbox controller support on those systems. Third-party adapters may offer support for particular controller and console combinations, but compatibility is model-specific; verify the adapter maker’s current documentation for the exact models before relying on one.

What about Steam Link?
Steam’s hardware FAQ lists the official Xbox One S Controller among controllers supported by Steam Link, including Bluetooth use.
