Usually, no: Brother says Deep Sleep cannot be disabled on the models covered by its support guidance. The practical alternative may be to adjust how long the printer stays in Sleep Mode before entering Deep Sleep. The available setting and menu path depend on the exact printer model.
Can you turn off Deep Sleep Mode?
Brother’s support FAQ says Deep Sleep cannot be turned off on the MFC-8510DN, MFC-8710DW, MFC-8810DW and MFC-8910DW; it says Sleep Time can be adjusted instead. Brother’s online guide gives the same non-disableable answer for the HL-L2400D, HL-L2405W, HL-L2420DW, HL-L2460DW, HL-L2460DWXL and HL-L2865DW, citing environmental considerations. Brother’s MFC FAQ and Brother’s HL-L2400 series guide establish the answer for those listed models, not every Brother printer.

What to adjust instead: Sleep Time
Sleep Time controls how long the printer remains in Sleep Mode before it moves into Deep Sleep. Brother says this time can be adjusted on the MFC models in its FAQ. Check your printer’s model-specific online guide or support page for whether Sleep Time is adjustable and for the correct control-panel steps; there is no single menu path established for all models.
- Find the model number on the printer, its label, or its display menu.
- Open that model’s Brother support page or online user guide.
- Look for Sleep Time or Sleep Mode settings and follow the instructions for your model, if provided.
What happens when the printer is in Deep Sleep?
Deep Sleep is an automatic low-power state reached after the printer has remained in Sleep Mode without receiving a job for a period that depends on the model and settings. Brother says Deep Sleep uses less power than Sleep Mode; its cited guide frames disabling it as an environmental consideration, without giving a numeric power-saving figure.

Depending on model, the printer may wake when it receives a print or other supported job, or when someone uses the control panel. The indicator shown while it sleeps and the exact wake behavior vary by model, so consult that printer’s guide rather than assuming every network job will wake it in the same way. Brother describes these behaviors in its MFC FAQ, HL-L2400 series guide and HL-L2465DW guide.
Deep Sleep is not Auto Power Off
Auto Power Off is a separate setting that may act after Deep Sleep. Changing Auto Power Off does not disable Deep Sleep. For example, Brother’s FAQ for the HL-L2350DW says that model does not enter Auto Power Off when connected to a network; that is model-specific guidance, not a rule for all Brother printers.
