Final Fantasy Resonance save data cannot move between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions in either direction. Nintendo explicitly rules out both Switch-to-Switch 2 and Switch 2-to-Switch transfers. Square Enix documents only two limited demo-to-full-game exceptions: a PlayStation 4 demo save can move into the PlayStation 5 full game, and a Nintendo Switch demo save can move into the Nintendo Switch 2 full game.
Those exceptions do not establish a general cross-generation save system. Square Enix says there is no cross-save functionality across different platforms, and the available official material does not say whether a purchased Digital Deluxe Upgrade DLC entitlement transfers between the Switch and Switch 2 editions. Treat save compatibility and DLC licensing as separate checks before buying or changing consoles.

The table separates three questions that are often mixed together: whether the save is from a demo or a purchased game, whether the destination is the same platform family, and whether the item being moved is progress or downloadable content.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 saves are incompatible
Nintendo’s product information gives two direct statements. It says, “It is not possible to carry save data from the Nintendo Switch™ 2 version over to the Nintendo Switch™ version.” It separately says, “It is not possible to carry save data from the Nintendo Switch™ version over to the Nintendo Switch™ 2 version.” That wording covers both directions, so a cloud backup, local transfer, or console-to-console migration should not be expected to make a Switch save readable by the Switch 2 edition.

The restriction applies to the full-game versions. It is not merely a warning about a particular transfer utility or a temporary launch problem. The Switch and Switch 2 products are treated as separate editions, and the save created by one edition is not accepted by the other.
What this means when you upgrade
Keep the original console and its save intact until you have decided how to proceed. Because Nintendo does not provide a compatible path for the full-game save, the practical expectation is that the Switch 2 edition will require a new save unless Square Enix or Nintendo publishes a later, Resonance-specific change. Do not delete the old installation while trying to troubleshoot; deleting it cannot convert the save into the other edition’s format.
Before purchasing, identify which edition you own and which edition you intend to play. A Switch 2 console does not by itself make a Switch-version save valid for the Switch 2 product. Conversely, buying or receiving the Switch 2 edition does not create a supported way to send that progress back to the Switch edition.

Square Enix support describes a narrow exception: “While it’s possible to transfer your progress from the demo on PlayStation®4 to the full game on PlayStation®5, or Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch™ 2, no cross-platform data transfer option exists for other platforms.” The source and destination in each case matter as much as the console generation.

PlayStation 4 demo to PlayStation 5 full game
A save made in the PlayStation 4 demo can be recognized by the PlayStation 5 full game through the documented transfer path. The statement does not say that every type of PS4 save moves to PS5, nor does it promise that a PS4 full-game save is interchangeable with the PS5 edition. If your progress began in the demo, preserve that demo installation and its save until the PS5 full game has had an opportunity to import it.
Nintendo Switch demo to Nintendo Switch 2 full game
Switch demo progress is the other named exception. It can transfer into the Nintendo Switch 2 full game. This does not conflict with Nintendo’s prohibition on Switch full-game saves: the supported source is specifically the demo, and the supported destination is specifically the Switch 2 full game.
A cautious way to use a demo save
- Leave the demo save on the original platform and avoid overwriting it while preparing the destination console.
- Install or obtain the full game edition named in Square Enix’s support guidance: PS5 for a PS4 demo, or Switch 2 for a Switch demo.
- Start the full game and follow any in-game option that asks to import or continue demo progress. The available material does not specify a universal menu label, so do not assume that a system-level save-copy command is required or available.
- If the import prompt does not appear, confirm that the source was the demo rather than the full game and that the destination is the matching edition. Keep the original save and contact Square Enix support rather than deleting files or attempting an unsupported platform transfer.
A successful demo import should not be interpreted as evidence that the platform has general cross-generation cloud saves. It is a specifically documented route into the full game.

Square Enix’s general FAQ answers the broader question directly: “No. There is no cross-save functionality across different platforms.” Therefore, moving Resonance progress from PlayStation to Xbox or PC, from Xbox to PlayStation, or between a console and PC is not a supported cross-platform operation in the cited documentation.

The support wording also says that combinations other than the two demo paths have no cross-platform data-transfer option. A player moving from PS4 or PS5 to Xbox or PC should plan as if the destination requires a new save. The same applies when moving from a Nintendo system to another platform family. No account-linking procedure, USB copy, or cloud-storage workaround is documented as a substitute.

DLC is a separate licensing question
Save compatibility tells you whether progress can be read. It does not tell you whether a purchased add-on is recognized by another edition. Nintendo lists a separate Digital Deluxe Upgrade DLC, and its product information shows a regular price of $14.99. That is a time-sensitive retail listing, so check the current store page, currency and region before relying on the amount.
The official material available for Resonance does not state whether the Digital Deluxe Upgrade entitlement purchased for the Switch edition transfers to the Switch 2 edition, whether it is replaced by an upgrade entitlement, or whether it must be purchased again. There is also no statement establishing a transfer from one platform family to another. Do not infer a DLC rule from the save-data rule: the fact that a save is blocked does not prove that DLC must be repurchased, and the existence of a demo import does not prove that paid content follows the player.

- Record the exact product name of the add-on, the edition that received it, the storefront region and the account used for the purchase.
- Check the destination store listing for the exact Switch 2 or other platform edition. Look for an entitlement description that names the destination edition rather than assuming that “Digital Deluxe” is one universal license.
- Ask Square Enix support a narrowly worded question: whether the purchased Digital Deluxe Upgrade for your source edition is recognized by the destination edition in your region. Include the platform pair and edition names.
- Keep the original purchase receipt and do not repurchase until the entitlement rule is clear. If you must buy before receiving an answer, treat the second purchase as a possibility rather than assuming a refund or automatic conversion.
This verification is especially important because the available statements discuss save transfers, not ownership of add-on content.

Choosing the correct Switch edition
Nintendo lists separate Switch and Switch 2 products. Edition choice therefore affects both the executable game and the save format. The Switch 2 edition is listed with an October 22, 2026 release date; release timing and store availability can vary by region, so confirm the listing where you intend to buy.

If you are searching a retailer, the defensible query is Final Fantasy Resonance Nintendo Switch 2. Check that the result is the exact Switch 2 edition, that the seller lists your region, and that any Digital Deluxe content is described for that edition. A generic search result or a similarly titled Switch listing does not establish compatibility.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The Switch 2 game does not see my Switch save
This is expected under Nintendo’s stated compatibility rules, not necessarily a corrupted file. Confirm that the source save was from the Switch full game and that the destination is the Switch 2 edition. There is no supported direction for that full-game move, so repeating a system transfer is unlikely to change the result.
The Switch 2 game does not see my Switch demo progress
Check that the save truly came from the demo and that you launched the Switch 2 full game, the destination named by Square Enix. Preserve the demo save, restart the full game and look for its import or continuation option. If the option remains absent, contact Square Enix with the edition and platform details rather than treating the failure as proof that all Switch-to-Switch 2 transfers are blocked.

The PS5 game does not offer my PS4 progress
Verify that the PS4 file was created by the demo. Square Enix’s documented exception is demo-to-full-game; the cited material does not promise migration for a PS4 full-game save. Keep the original file and ask support whether your specific edition and save type qualify.
My DLC is missing after changing consoles
First separate the problem from save migration. Check the destination edition’s downloadable-content list, the purchasing account and the store region. Because no official Resonance statement confirms cross-generation Digital Deluxe entitlement, do not delete the original content or buy a replacement solely on the assumption that the first license is invalid. Obtain an edition-specific answer from Square Enix.
What to expect before you switch
For a full-game Switch-to-Switch 2 upgrade, plan around incompatible saves. For a demo, use only the two explicitly documented routes: PS4 demo to PS5 full game or Switch demo to Switch 2 full game. For PlayStation-to-Xbox, console-to-PC and other platform-family moves, plan around no cross-platform save support. Finally, verify Digital Deluxe licensing independently; the available official statements leave that question open.
