Blizzard also allows cross-realm and cross-faction trades with other players in Modern WoW when the in-game trading system permits them. WoW Classic has different restrictions, and Warband Bank gold does not count toward a WoW Token purchase made from the character-selection screen.
Move gold between your own Modern WoW characters
Use the Warband Bank rather than mailing gold between your own characters. Blizzard says Warband characters can deposit and withdraw from the bank, including gold. See Blizzard’s Warbands preview.

- Log in with the character holding the gold and open the Warband Bank.
- Deposit the amount you want to move.
- Log in with the intended Warband character, open the bank, and withdraw the gold.
This is the bank’s general gold-transfer function; it is separate from buying a WoW Token or transferring a character between realms.
Trade gold with another player across realms or factions
For Modern WoW, Blizzard Support has clarified that trades within the game’s systems—including cross-realm and cross-faction trades—are allowed. The trade still has to be available through the in-game system; use the game’s trade interface rather than assuming every realm or character combination can trade directly. The clarification appears in Blizzard’s official support forum.

WoW Classic follows different trading rules
Do not apply Modern WoW’s cross-realm and cross-faction allowance to Classic. Blizzard Support’s forum clarification says trades across WoW Classic realms or factions, and trades between different game versions such as Modern WoW and Classic, are prohibited. Check the current guidance for your specific Classic edition before attempting a transfer, since the cited clarification does not establish rules for every edition or future update.
Warband Bank gold does not count for a character-select Token purchase
If you are buying a WoW Token through the character-selection-screen purchase flow, Blizzard says that system does not include gold held in the Warband Bank in its calculation. Keep the needed gold on a character or in mail on the relevant realm instead. This is a limitation of the Token purchase flow, not a general block on moving gold through the Warband Bank. Blizzard’s WoW Token instructions also state that Tokens cannot be traded, mailed, or banked.

A paid Character Transfer is a separate service
A paid Character Transfer moves a character; it is not the same feature as depositing gold for another Warband character to withdraw. Blizzard applies a gold limit based on the character’s level, and a character over that limit cannot be transferred. Consult Blizzard’s Character Transfer support page for the current limit that applies to your character and region before purchasing the service.
