Yes—but YouTube does not guarantee a 24/7 stream will stay uninterrupted, and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be saved as a replay. You can send a study-with-me video or camera feed to YouTube Live through an encoder, but you need a channel eligible to stream, rights to everything in the feed, and a plan for interruptions. If you want the stream to keep running without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube.
What 24/7 streaming does—and does not—mean
YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming: an encoder sends a video feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. That makes an extended study-with-me stream technically possible, whether the feed is a live camera view or a prepared video. It is not a promise of uninterrupted operation. YouTube’s streaming tips warn that connectivity disruptions can break a stream and recommend testing and monitoring it.

A 24-hour stream also has replay trade-offs. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR—letting viewers pause or rewind a live stream—may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If keeping a replay matters, retain a local recording rather than relying only on YouTube’s archive.
Check channel eligibility and content rights first
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. You must be at least 16 years old to livestream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Follow YouTube’s Terms of Service and use only footage, music, and other material for which you have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights.
- YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects protected material, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. A music license does not always prevent a Content ID interruption: the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Using the same video repeatedly is not automatically a guarantee of monetization. YouTube Partner Program review is separate from livestream eligibility and evaluates originality and authenticity. Repetitive or mass-produced content with little variation or added value may be ineligible; YouTube decides whether a particular channel qualifies. See its channel monetization policies.

How to set up a YouTube Live study stream yourself
- Choose the feed. Decide whether you are streaming a live study session from a laptop camera or sending a prepared video loop. A laptop camera can be enough; a dedicated webcam is optional, not a 24/7 requirement.
- Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, start the live-stream setup, and choose an encoder-based stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guidance to create or select the stream.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the Studio stream settings into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Studio before going live again.
- Set output and bandwidth sensibly. Choose resolution and frame rate to match your source and connection; there is no single bitrate that fits every static study loop. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists settings by output resolution and frame rate. Ensure your available outbound bandwidth can sustain the selected bitrate with headroom, then test rather than assuming the connection will hold.
- Preview and test. Start the encoder, check the preview and stream health in Studio, and confirm audio, framing, and playback before relying on an extended session. Monitor the stream during operation; a network interruption can break it.
- Plan for replays and restarts. If you want YouTube’s archive and DVR features to be more dependable, a cautious approach is to end sessions before they pass 12 hours, then deliberately start another session. This is a practical inference from YouTube’s archive and DVR warnings, not a platform requirement. Keep a local recording if the replay is important.
One stream over 12 hours or shorter sessions?
| Approach | Practical advantage | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One stream longer than 12 hours | Fewer deliberate restarts and a more continuous live presence. | YouTube says the stream may not be archived, and DVR may be limited or unavailable. |
| Recurring sessions shorter than 12 hours | A more cautious choice when archives and DVR matter. | You must plan and perform restarts; this does not eliminate network or encoder interruptions. |
Do you need a dedicated webcam?
No. YouTube’s setup guidance supports using a laptop camera and webcam for a live feed, and a separate USB webcam is an optional choice if you want a different image quality or framing. A camera does not solve the continuity problem: keeping a live camera session going still depends on the encoder, power, and connection.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to play an uploaded study-with-me video on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. The three steps are: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos sent to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
