Nintendo says that edition has two separate manual save files. The available official information does not establish the same added-save feature for the original Nintendo Switch version.
Can you start a new game without deleting your TOTK save?
Yes, if you are playing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Nintendo says its two separate manual save files let you continue with your original data or start fresh without losing it. The feature gives you a second save file for a new adventure alongside your existing one.

Does the original Switch version have the extra save slot?
The official information cited here establishes the additional separate save file for the Switch 2 Edition, not for the original Switch version. It does not settle every save, profile, or new-game behavior in the original edition, so do not assume that it offers the same two-file arrangement.

No. Nintendo says the second save file created in the Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch version. The added file is useful for keeping a fresh run separate within the Switch 2 Edition, but it is not a way to carry that second adventure back to the original edition.

Nintendo’s published statements establish that the two manual files exist and that the original data can be retained while starting fresh. They do not give a menu sequence, button presses, exact labels, or overwrite-prompt details. For that reason, there is no verified step-by-step path to give here; avoid assuming a particular menu flow or prompt based on another Zelda game or edition.
