Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For most people choosing between these two used cards, the Radeon RX 6600 is the better 1080p gaming buy if the price premium is manageable and the individual card is in good condition. It is substantially faster in the available comparison data and has lower listed board power than the particular RX 580 model cited here. The RX 580 can still make sense for lighter games or a very tight budget, but its value depends on how much cheaper it is locally.
How much faster is the RX 6600?
Third-party comparison pages point to a sizeable RX 6600 advantage, but their figures should be treated as broad indicators rather than promises of a particular game’s frame rate. GPUsed reports aggregate 1080p benchmark averages of 133 FPS for the RX 6600 8GB and 79 FPS for the RX 580 8GB. NanoReview lists 1080p High averages of 116 FPS and 52 FPS, respectively. The methods behind these undated aggregates could not be fully verified, so they are not a substitute for game-specific testing or a directly reproducible head-to-head benchmark. In practical terms, expect the RX 6600 to provide more room for demanding games, higher settings, or steadier performance at 1080p. The RX 580 may remain adequate for less demanding games, especially if you are willing to reduce settings. Neither aggregate figure establishes what you will see in a particular title: results depend on the game, settings, processor, drivers, and the exact card.
Can either card handle 1080p gaming?
The RX 6600 is designed primarily for 1080p, but that does not mean every recent or demanding game will run smoothly at maximum settings. Tom’s Hardware’s launch review specifically noted that demanding titles could struggle at maxed-out 1080p. Settings adjustments may be needed; a blanket promise of maximum settings or a fixed FPS would be misleading. Tom’s Hardware RX 6600 review.
#1 Best Overall
- System Compatibility Note: 2-slot card, 269.2x131.8x40.3mm, single 8-pin power, recommended 550W PSU. Verify chassis clearance before purchase.

- Next-Gen AMD RDNA 3 Architecture: Powered by RX 7600 GPU with 32 CUs and 2048 stream processors, delivering exceptional 1080p gaming with hardware ray tracing.
- Factory Overclocked for Maximum Performance: Boost clock up to 2695MHz and game clock of 2280MHz, providing the raw power for smooth high-framerate gaming.
- 8GB GDDR6 Memory on 128-Bit Bus: Equipped with 8GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory running at 18 Gbps, offering ample bandwidth for modern game textures.
The RX 580 is the older, slower option in the comparison data. Whether it is “good enough” depends on your game list and willingness to lower visual settings. If you primarily play lighter games, it may meet your needs at the right price; for more demanding games, the RX 6600 is the safer choice between these two.
RX 580 and RX 6600 specifications that matter
Both cards are available with 8GB of memory, but capacity alone does not indicate gaming performance. AMD specifies GDDR6 for the RX 6600, while MSI’s RX 580 GAMING 8G uses GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus. The MSI figures below describe that specific board, not every RX 580 partner model.

The cited specifications favor the RX 6600 on power: AMD lists 132W typical board power and a 450W minimum PSU recommendation, compared with MSI’s 185W power consumption and 500W recommended PSU for its RX 580 GAMING 8G. Those numbers apply to the stated reference specification and MSI model, not universally to every partner variant. A PSU’s wattage label alone does not establish suitability.

- Look up the exact make and model of the card you are buying, including its memory variant and manufacturer’s power requirement.
- Confirm that your PSU has the required PCIe power connector and is an appropriate model for the whole system.
- Check card length, thickness, and clearance against your case.
- Account for the rest of your PC, rather than choosing a PSU solely from the GPU recommendation.
How to choose between used listings
There is no reliable universal price cutoff for choosing one card over the other: used asking prices vary by location, date, exact model, and condition. Compare actual listings in your area, then decide whether the RX 6600’s performance advantage justifies the difference for the games you play.
- Compare like with like. Verify each listing’s exact board model and memory capacity. RX 580 partner cards can differ in cooler, clock, connector, and power details.
- Check the condition. Inspect the card and fans for visible damage or unusual wear. Ask for a demonstration in a game or stress test where practical.
- Watch operation under load. Look for artifacts or abnormal behavior and monitor temperatures during a demonstration. A monitoring utility can help with inspection, but it cannot establish a card’s history or guarantee future reliability.
- Read the return terms. Prefer a seller and transaction with clear protections, especially when the card cannot be tested before purchase.
- Make the price decision around your games. A low-priced RX 580 may be reasonable for lighter gaming; if the price gap is modest and both cards check out, the RX 6600 is generally the stronger 1080p option.
Verdict: RX 6600 for most 1080p buyers
Choose a used RX 6600 if you want the stronger gaming card and can find a sound example at a price that fits your budget. Choose the RX 580 only when the savings are meaningful for your local market, your games are relatively light, and the specific card’s condition and power requirements suit your PC. The comparison data supports the performance direction, not a guaranteed frame rate or a single price rule.
