No—not as a supported, plug-and-play feature. Nintendo Switch games are not native PS5 games, and PlayStation’s documented PS5 backward compatibility covers PS4 games, not Switch titles. An unofficial homebrew emulator port called ProsperoEden has been reported running on modified PS5 consoles, but it is experimental and results vary. If you want a dependable way to play authentic Switch games, use Nintendo Switch hardware.
What works—and what does not
A Switch game card or Nintendo game license does not turn into a PS5 game. PlayStation’s backward-compatibility guidance describes playing PS4 games on PS5; it does not document support for Nintendo Switch games.

That is the distinction between official compatibility and an unofficial technical experiment. There is no supported PS5 setting or ordinary disc process that makes Switch games run on the console.
What ProsperoEden is, and what it requires
ProsperoEden describes itself as an unofficial PS5 port of Eden, a Nintendo Switch emulator. Its project documentation calls for a modified, homebrew-enabled PS5 and user-provided game files. It is not software supported by Sony or Nintendo, and installing it is not equivalent to enabling a normal PS5 feature.

Tom’s Hardware reported in late September 2026 that the emulator was still early: some games ran, while others performed poorly or failed. Results can depend on the game, PS5 firmware, and emulator build. A demonstration of one title—or a reported frame rate from one setup—does not establish how another game will run on a different console or later build.

Legal and platform-term risks are separate questions
Sony’s US PS5 System Software License Agreement, version 1.12, restricts use of unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software with PS5 system software. It also restricts tools that bypass PS5 encryption, security, or authentication, and use of PS5 system software to accept unauthorized, illegal, or pirated software or hardware. Sony says these restrictions are to be construed to apply to the greatest extent permitted by the law in the user’s jurisdiction. This is the US agreement; Sony’s terms may differ by region.

Nintendo’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ says uploading and downloading pirate copies of Nintendo games is illegal. It also describes products and software used to bypass Nintendo security to make, modify, or play unauthorized game files, and states that importing, marketing, selling, or distributing such products is illegal. That is Nintendo’s published position, not a universal ruling that every emulator is illegal everywhere.

Warranty, console function, and data risks
Nintendo warns that unauthorized products used to circumvent its security may damage Nintendo hardware without warranty coverage, reduce functionality, prevent features such as online play, or leave a console unable to work after network updates. Those warnings concern Nintendo products and the circumvention context Nintendo describes; they should not be read as a claim about PS5 warranty coverage.
ProsperoEden’s own disclaimer warns that homebrew on a modified PS5 may void warranty, breach platform terms, or cause data loss. It is a project warning, not a legal determination or a promise that any particular outcome will occur.

The straightforward way to play Switch games
Use Nintendo Switch hardware and obtain authentic games through Nintendo’s supported channels. Nintendo says authentic games can be purchased through Nintendo eShop on Nintendo devices. A Nintendo Switch OLED is one hardware option; it does not add Switch-game compatibility to a PS5.
