Yes. Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 leaves your ear canals open, so you can hear environmental sounds while listening. Its standard sound system combines bone conduction and a separate air-conduction driver; in Classic EQ mode, Shokz says it uses only the bone-conduction driver. An open ear can help you remain aware, but it does not guarantee that you will notice a hazard or make outdoor exercise safe.
Why you can hear the world around you
OpenRun Pro 2 sits against the head rather than sealing the ear canal. Because the canal remains open, sounds from traffic, people and other parts of your environment can reach your ears while the headphones play audio. RTINGS describes the model as intentionally leaving the ear canal open and unsealed, allowing ambient sounds to be heard while listening.

How clearly you hear a particular sound depends on conditions such as your listening volume and the surrounding environment. Treat awareness as a potential benefit of the design, not a substitute for attention to traffic, other people or local rules.
How OpenRun Pro 2 produces sound
Shokz calls the system DualPitch and describes it as decoupled bone- and air-conduction drivers. The company says the bone-conduction driver handles mids and highs, while the air-conduction driver handles bass. Its product page specifies an 18 × 11 mm low-frequency driver. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent measurements.

Bone conduction sends vibration through contact points on the head toward the inner ear. The separate air-conduction driver produces sound that travels through air. The open fit is a separate part of the explanation: the ear canal is not blocked, so environmental sound can still enter.
What Classic EQ changes
Shokz says OpenRun Pro 2 offers six preset EQ modes and two customizable profiles. Its FAQ states that Classic EQ uses only the bone-conduction driver, giving a more traditional bone-conduction sound. The standard approach, by contrast, combines the two driver types.

What open-ear listening does—and does not—mean
Leaving the ear canal open makes it possible to hear your surroundings while audio is playing; it does not ensure that you will hear every sound clearly or react to it in time. Loud playback, competing noise and the situation itself can affect awareness. No model-specific safety statistic or standards-body finding in the cited material establishes that wearing these headphones makes outdoor exercise safe.
If awareness is important, keep the volume at a level that lets you attend to your surroundings and remain alert. Do not rely on the headphones in place of looking, listening deliberately or following local rules.

Practical limits to consider
Water resistance is not a swimming rating
Shokz rates OpenRun Pro 2 IP55, but says it is unsuitable for seawater, saunas and shower exposure. TechRadar also cautions that it is not suitable for swimming. Do not treat the rating as permission to use it in a pool.
Battery life depends on use
The Independent lists battery life at 12 hours. That is a listed figure, not a guarantee of runtime in every situation: Tom’s Guide reported in a 2026 running test that battery life could be shorter when listening outdoors at maximum volume.

Fit is personal
The Independent reviewer described the wraparound band as secure during exercise and reported measuring 31 g. Those are one reviewer’s experience and measurement; fit and comfort can vary from person to person.

- Outdoor awareness: Consider whether the design leaves the ear canal open, how it fits, and whether you can listen at a suitably low volume.
- Swimming or water exposure: Look for a model specifically rated for the activity. OpenRun Pro 2 is not for swimming, seawater, saunas or showers.
- Phone-free playback: TechRadar notes that OpenRun Pro 2 has no onboard storage, so factor in whether you need music without a connected device.
- Sound priorities: Compare the balance between hearing environmental sound and isolating audio; open-ear designs should not be assumed to deliver the same experience.
