You can set up a Galaxy A37 5G with Samsung’s guided transfer flow or configure it manually, then use Smart Switch to move eligible content from an Android phone or iPhone. Keep the old phone until you have checked your important files, apps, and account access: Smart Switch does not necessarily copy secure data, every app, or every login.
Before you start
- Charge both phones. Samsung says Smart Switch will run when each device is at least 20% charged. For a large wired transfer, charge them first: Samsung says the phones cannot be connected to a charger during that transfer.
- Have your Wi-Fi password and Google and Samsung account details ready. You may need to sign in to accounts during setup or in individual apps afterward.
- If you are moving a SIM, confirm it is compatible with your network. eSIM availability and activation depend on your carrier; you can postpone eSIM activation during setup and complete it later in Settings.
- Do not erase, trade in, or reset the old phone until you have checked that important data arrived and you can sign in to essential accounts.
Set up the Galaxy A37 5G
Samsung’s A37 5G setup guide says the Setup Wizard starts with language selection and acceptance of the terms. The next steps depend on whether you choose assisted or manual setup.

Option 1: Use the guided transfer during setup
- Turn on the Galaxy A37 5G and follow the Setup Wizard. Select your language and accept the terms.
- When asked how to set up the phone, choose “Galaxy or Android device” or “iPhone or iPad,” based on your old phone.
- The A37 displays a QR code. Use the old phone to scan it, then follow the instructions shown on both devices.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and continue through the remaining prompts, including account sign-in and any SIM or eSIM choices you are ready to complete.
The guided QR flow is the setup-time route. Its prompts can differ from opening Smart Switch after setup, so follow the instructions displayed on your devices.

- At the setup-choice screen, select “Set up manually.”
- Connect to Wi-Fi and continue through the wizard, signing in to Samsung and Google accounts as applicable.
- Complete the remaining prompts. You can use Smart Switch later to transfer data.
Transfer from an Android phone
Samsung’s Galaxy setup guidance documents Wi-Fi and USB transfers. For a large transfer, Samsung recommends a wired connection because it is relatively faster; wireless avoids needing a compatible cable.

- On the new Galaxy, open Smart Switch and choose “Receive data,” then “Galaxy/Android.”
- Choose Wi-Fi or USB. For USB, use a compatible data cable for both phones; connector requirements depend on the old phone.
- Select the categories you want to transfer and start the process. Keep the phones close and follow any prompts on either device.
- When it finishes, check important files and apps on the A37. Sign in to apps that request credentials and use an app’s own recovery process for anything that did not transfer.
Transfer from an iPhone or iPad
Samsung’s Galaxy setup guidance describes cable and iCloud options. Choose based on the cable you have and where the content you need is stored.
Use a cable
Samsung lists Lightning-to-USB-C and USB-C-to-USB-C cable options. If you have a USB-A cable, an OTG adapter may be needed; Samsung notes that the adapter is sold separately. Connect the phones and follow Smart Switch prompts to select content.

Use iCloud
The iCloud route can bring over content that is synced to iCloud. Sign in as prompted, select what to transfer, and allow the process to complete. Content that is not synced there will not be available through this route.
Special case: WhatsApp chat history
Samsung’s Smart Switch guidance says to use the current WhatsApp version and transfer chat history before signing in to WhatsApp on the new phone. Check the latest prompts shown on both devices before proceeding, since this migration has specific requirements.

Samsung documents the computer and external-storage alternatives on its Smart Switch transfer page. They are options, not prerequisites for a routine phone-to-phone move.
What may not transfer
Smart Switch is not a perfect clone of the old phone. Samsung UK says most app data transfers, but secure or encrypted information may not. Details can also depend on the app and its storage method.

- Apps that keep information on their own servers may need a separate backup or a fresh login.
- Apps installed outside the Play Store may need to be installed manually.
- App credentials, including banking logins, may not carry over. Have your sign-in or account-recovery details ready.
- When moving from iPhone, there may not be an Android equivalent for every iOS app.
For critical app data, confirm the app’s own backup or transfer instructions before you wipe the old phone. If an app is missing, a secure item did not copy, or a login is requested, use that app’s backup or recovery process rather than repeating the whole phone transfer blindly. Samsung’s UK transfer guidance describes these limitations; app behavior can vary by service and region.

Fix common setup and transfer problems
The setup wizard cannot connect to Wi-Fi
Check the password, signal strength, and network. Samsung recommends restarting the router and trying again.

Smart Switch cannot connect to the old phone
Confirm Smart Switch is installed on both devices, keep the phones close together, and restart both phones before retrying. Recheck cable compatibility if you selected USB.
Calls or mobile data do not work
Check that the physical SIM is compatible with the network. eSIM availability and activation are carrier-dependent; contact the carrier about activation, compatibility, or an unlock requirement, particularly after changing carriers.
