No—not as a supported direct audio connection. PlayStation’s support materials say Bluetooth audio devices identified as incompatible cannot be used as a direct PS5 audio device. For speaker sound, use a compatible HDMI-connected soundbar or AV system, or check whether your TV/display or a separate transmitter supports the exact Bluetooth-speaker setup you want.
Why a Bluetooth speaker will not pair directly as PS5 audio
The PS5 does not offer a supported direct Bluetooth-audio route for devices it identifies as incompatible. Sony’s PS5 FAQ specifically says third-party wireless headsets that use Bluetooth are not supported, while its error-code guidance says a Bluetooth audio device that triggers CE-109531-9 is not compatible. These statements concern Bluetooth audio devices; they do not establish that Sony has tested every speaker model individually.

The FAQ’s wording is: “Wireless headsets from third-party companies that use a Bluetooth connection will not be supported on PS5, though most USB and analog headsets will be supported.” The FAQ does not make that sentence specifically about speakers, so it is more accurate to say that direct Bluetooth audio is not a supported route for incompatible devices than to claim every Bluetooth speaker has been individually tested. HDMI soundbar or AV system
This is the clearest documented speaker-oriented alternative. On PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the relevant output device. For an HDMI-connected AV amplifier, the console provides settings for channel count and speaker positions. The exact route may pass through the TV/display or through an HDMI audio system, so check which connections your equipment supports before changing cables or purchasing anything. TV or display paired with a Bluetooth speaker
If your TV can send its audio to a Bluetooth speaker, the PS5 sound may reach the speaker through the TV rather than through a direct PS5 pairing. The outcome depends on that TV’s capabilities and settings; PlayStation’s cited support pages do not promise compatibility for every display and speaker combination. Check the TV manual for Bluetooth audio output and confirm that it can route sound from the HDMI input used by the PS5.
Separate Bluetooth transmitter
A transmitter may provide another route by converting or relaying audio between supported connections, but it does not make the PS5’s direct Bluetooth audio support any broader. Before choosing one, verify that it accepts audio from your actual source, can connect to your speaker, and works with the display or audio equipment in your setup. The reviewed Sony sources do not certify a particular transmitter or guarantee compatibility, so consult the manuals for every device in the chain.

USB or analog audio
Sony’s FAQ says most USB and analog headsets will be supported, with compatibility varying by device. That guidance is about headsets and does not mean a Bluetooth speaker can be connected directly over Bluetooth. If you are considering a USB or analog audio device instead, confirm its compatibility and connection requirements for your setup.
Check PS5 audio settings and troubleshoot HDMI sound
- Connect the PS5 to the TV/display or HDMI audio system using the supported connection path for your equipment.
- On the console, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output, then select the output device that matches the connection.
- If you use an AV amplifier, review its HDMI device type and configure the available channel and speaker-position settings to match the system.
- If sound is still missing, confirm that the TV or audio system is set to the correct HDMI input, check the relevant device connections and settings, and make sure the PS5 audio output is set to an HDMI device. Sony’s picture and sound troubleshooting guidance includes this HDMI-output check.
If the console reports CE-109531-9 when you try a Bluetooth audio device, Sony identifies that device as incompatible. Use a supported audio route instead of treating the error as a setting that can enable direct Bluetooth audio.

What to confirm before choosing an alternative
- Connection path: Decide whether audio will travel over HDMI, USB, analog, or through a TV or separate transmitter.
- Device compatibility: Check the manuals for the PS5 accessory, TV/display, sound system, transmitter, and speaker involved in your chosen route.
- Inputs and outputs: Make sure the equipment has the ports or wireless audio functions needed for the complete chain.
- Audio delay: The supported sources do not establish a latency result for TV-paired speakers or transmitters. If timing matters for your use, look for confirmation for the exact devices rather than assuming they will behave alike.
