Usually, no. Valor Mortis does not document a menu option, dialogue reset, or item that reverses a Mice quest decision. To change the branch, reload a save made before the relevant conversation or encounter. The question can refer to two different moments: the final choice in Bedtime Stories and the decision about the possessed parents in Mummy and Daddy.
Those choices affect quest rewards, Mice friendship and later assistance. They do not create a separately documented main-story ending; the available guide data describes one ending sequence, with choices changing dialogue around it.

Which Mice decision are you trying to change?
Players often say they “helped the mice” when they mean one of two branches. Identifying the quest matters because the consequences are different. Bedtime Stories ends with a reward choice after you return a storybook. Mummy and Daddy can permanently close the Mice’s later-help route if you kill the possessed parents.

Bedtime Stories: Read a story or say goodbye
In City of Orphans, Chapter 7, you retrieve the storybook and return it to the Mice. The final conversation presents Read a story and Say goodbye. The walkthrough at AllThingsHow describes these as alternate quest endings. After you select one, the quest advances to its corresponding ending stage and then moves to Completed.

Mummy and Daddy: Spare or kill the possessed parents
The other major Mice branch occurs when you meet the possessed parents. MetaBot’s side-quest guide reports that killing them makes the Mice swear never to help you again. Keeping them alive preserves the route to later Mice assistance. This is a relationship flag rather than a simple reward-selection screen.
Can you reverse either choice in-game?
No documented feature lets you reopen the conversation, reset the quest stage or ask an NPC to restore the previous relationship. The available guides do not describe a reversal item, hidden dialogue reset or later quest that repairs either branch.
The practical solution is to load a save from before the choice. That recommendation follows from the guides’ description of one-way quest states; it is a recovery inference, not a documented “undo” command or a separately tested feature. If your only save was made after the branch, you may have to continue with that outcome.

The following comparison separates the two encounters and shows what is established for each option.
| Encounter and option | Quest status | Immediate reward or relationship result | Mice friendship and assistance | Save needed to change it | Main ending |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bedtime Stories — Read a story | Quest reaches its alternate ending stage and completes | Two Tiny Whisker Gifts, worth 6,000 Catalysts total | Counts toward the Mice relationship; no separate loss of later help is documented | Reload before the final conversation | No separately documented ending change |
| Bedtime Stories — Say goodbye | Quest reaches its alternate ending stage and completes | One Tiny Whisker Gift, worth 3,000 Catalysts | Counts toward the Mice relationship; no separate loss of later help is documented | Reload before the final conversation | No separately documented ending change |
| Mummy and Daddy — Kill the possessed parents | The Mice branch can no longer provide its later assistance | Relationship consequence rather than a documented immediate payout | The Mice swear never to help you again | Reload before the parents encounter | No separately documented ending change |
| Mummy and Daddy — Preserve the parents | The Mice-assistance route remains available | Preserves access to the relationship route | Allows later Mice help and points from other interactions | Reload only if you want to choose the other branch | No separately documented ending change |
The reward figures in the first two rows come from the Bedtime Stories walkthrough. The relationship result in the last two rows comes from MetaBot’s side-quest guide, which does not state a separate immediate Catalyst amount for killing or preserving the parents.

Bedtime Stories: choosing between the two endings
Read a story
Reading the story is the larger documented payout. You receive two Tiny Whisker Gifts with a combined value of 6,000 Catalysts. This choice closes the quest normally after its “read” ending stage; it is not presented as an unfinished branch that can be revisited later.
If you want that outcome, make a manual save before handing back the storybook or before selecting the final dialogue option. A save created after the choice will normally carry the completed quest state, so loading it will not expose the other answer.
Say goodbye
Saying goodbye is the smaller documented payout: one Tiny Whisker Gift worth 3,000 Catalysts. The quest still reaches an ending stage and becomes Completed. Nothing in the cited walkthrough indicates that this option prevents all future Mice interactions; its documented difference is the lower Bedtime Stories reward and the alternate closing scene.
To switch from Say goodbye to Read a story, use a pre-choice save. Starting a new dialogue with the Mice after completion is not documented as a way to obtain the second gift.
Mummy and Daddy: why the parent decision matters more
The possessed-parent encounter affects whether the Mice remain willing to assist you. According to MetaBot’s side-quest guide, killing the parents causes the Mice to swear never to help you again. That closes the later-help route, so this branch has a broader practical cost than the two Bedtime Stories farewells.
Preserving the parents keeps that route open. The guide does not describe a later forgiveness scene after the parents are killed, which is why a pre-encounter save is the only practical way to pursue the assistance path once the hostile flag has been set.
Do not assume that “helping the Mice” means the same thing in both quests. Reading a story versus saying goodbye is primarily a payout and ending-stage choice. The parent decision is the one explicitly reported to terminate future Mice help.
Mice friendship points and the late reward
MetaBot’s choices guide lists 22 Mice points available and says that 10 points are needed for the late Mice reward. The counter is checked before the late regions and becomes locked once you reach the Fortress’s High Tower. That timing creates an important planning rule: do not wait until the High Tower to repair a relationship or collect missed Mice interactions.
At 10 or more points, the Mouse King can award the Giant Whisker Gift, worth 30,000 Catalysts, together with the Mice’s Key. The guide presents these as the late reward for meeting the threshold, not as an automatic replacement for every earlier quest payout.
Because the points come from multiple interactions, one unfavorable choice does not automatically prove that the reward is lost. The documented hard failure is the Mummy and Daddy relationship break; your remaining point total determines whether other available actions can still carry you to 10 before the counter locks.

Does changing a Mice choice change the final ending?
Not according to the documented game-file summary. MetaBot states: “The game files contain one ending sequence, played out in Entropy after the final boss.” Its explanation is that choices alter dialogue rather than creating a different ending sequence.
That means a reload can change rewards, relationship dialogue and assistance without being necessary to unlock a separate cinematic finale. If your goal is the highest Catalyst total or the Mice’s Key, the decision is still worth revisiting; if your only goal is a different main ending, the available evidence does not show one.
How to reload safely and make the other choice
- Stop before overwriting saves. If the decision was recent, avoid making additional manual saves in the same slot. Autosaves can rotate, so preserve any slot that predates the conversation or encounter.
- Identify the correct checkpoint. For Bedtime Stories, look for a save before returning the storybook or before the Read a story/Say goodbye prompt. For Mummy and Daddy, use a save from before the possessed-parent encounter resolves.
- Load the earlier save. Confirm the quest objective and NPC dialogue show the pre-choice state. If the save loads after the branch, select an older slot rather than expecting the conversation to reset.
- Make the alternate selection. Choose Read a story for the two-gift Bedtime Stories payout, Say goodbye for the one-gift outcome, or preserve the parents if you want the later Mice-assistance route.
- Create a new manual save. Keep the original pre-choice file until you verify the reward, quest completion and Mice dialogue. This gives you a rollback point if the result is not what you intended.
- Check the relationship before advancing too far. If you are pursuing the 10-point reward, confirm your progress before entering the late regions and especially before reaching the Fortress’s High Tower, where the counter is reported to lock.
Common situations and what they mean
“I selected Read a story, but I only see one reward.”
Read a story is documented as two Tiny Whisker Gifts worth 6,000 Catalysts in total, not as one item with a 6,000-Catalyst label. Check your inventory for both gifts and verify the Catalyst balance after collecting them.
“I said goodbye. Can I talk to the Mice again and get the second gift?”
The walkthrough treats the two answers as alternate completed quest endings. It does not document a post-completion conversation that grants the unchosen reward. Use a save from before the final dialogue if you want the other payout.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches“I killed the parents and the Mice stopped helping.”
That is the reported consequence of the Mummy and Daddy branch. There is no documented in-game reversal. Only a pre-encounter save can restore the assistance route in the information currently available.
Best Value
“I missed one Mice interaction. Is the late reward automatically gone?”
Not necessarily. The documented totals are 22 available points and a 10-point requirement, so the deciding factor is your eventual score, not a single missed interaction by itself. However, the counter locks at the Fortress’s High Tower, leaving no documented way to add points afterward.
“Will the choice alter the ending cutscene?”
The available choices guide describes one ending sequence after the final boss, with choices changing dialogue. It does not document a branch-specific main ending.
Version and platform caveat
MetaBot says its side-quest numbers are based on the PC launch Steam build 25907482, with data dated October 13, 2026; the page was updated October 15, 2026. The Bedtime Stories walkthrough was updated October 18, 2026. A later patch, a different platform or a changed quest flag could alter rewards or timing, so compare your current build if an update has released.

The game’s recorded choices matter for rewards and assistance, but they are not documented as alternate main endings.
