In Chrome for Android, go to More > Settings > Search engine and choose an available provider. That setting controls searches made in Chrome; Android home-screen search and other browsers have their own settings.
Change the search engine in Chrome for Android
- Open Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Settings.
- Tap Search engine.
- Select the provider you want from the list.
Google says recently visited search engines may appear as options. The choice applies to searches entered in Chrome, such as from its address bar; it does not automatically change every search field on your device. Google’s Chrome instructions cover this setting.

Why another search box may still use a different provider
Android does not have a single search-engine switch that necessarily controls all browsers and home-screen search surfaces. A widget, a manufacturer’s search feature, or a browser other than Chrome may use a separate setting.
Android home-screen search widgets
Google describes adding a search-engine app widget through the device’s Widgets picker. This is separate from Chrome’s address-bar setting. The available widgets depend on the apps installed on the device. See Google’s Android search-engine guidance.

Pixel home-screen search bar
Google documents changing the provider by touching and holding the Pixel home-screen search bar and opening its settings. That guidance applies only in Japan and the European Economic Area; it should not be assumed to work in other regions.
Change the default in another Android browser
Firefox for Android
- Tap the search-engine icon in the address bar.
- Open Search settings.
- Tap Default search engine and choose a provider.

Microsoft Edge for mobile
Edge’s default is Bing, and its mobile FAQ describes a Default search engine setting. If the provider you want is missing, Microsoft advises visiting that provider’s website in Edge and then checking the list again. Provider availability may vary. See Microsoft’s Edge for mobile FAQ.

Samsung Internet and other browsers
Check the browser’s own settings for a search-engine option. Menus and provider choices can differ by app version and device, so do not assume another browser uses Chrome’s path. For Samsung Internet in particular, consult the version installed on your device or current Samsung guidance rather than relying on a universal menu path.

If the menu or option looks different
- Confirm which app or search box you are changing: Chrome, another browser, a widget, or the home-screen search bar.
- Check that the desired provider is available in your region and in that app.
- In Chrome, visiting a provider’s search site may cause it to appear among recently visited options.
- Allow for small menu differences: Google notes that device manufacturers may modify Android software, so steps can vary slightly by device. Google’s Android guidance explains this variation.
