Can XSplit Broadcaster Stream a Pre-Recorded Video in 4K to YouTube Continuously?

XSplit supports playlist playback and YouTube Live output, but 4K performance and uninterrupted streaming depend on your setup. Here are the settings and checks to use.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes, XSplit Broadcaster can be configured to send pre-recorded video to YouTube Live in 4K, but that does not guarantee an uninterrupted or indefinite broadcast. XSplit documents a Video Playlist source with continuous playback, a YouTube Live output, and resolution and frame-rate controls. Whether a particular computer can sustain 4K—and whether the broadcast stays connected—depends on its encoder, drivers, source video, and network. Test your actual setup before relying on it for a long stream.

What “continuous” means in this setup

There are two separate things to keep running: playback of your video content and the live broadcast connection to YouTube. XSplit documents continuous playback for its Video Playlist source, which can play multiple videos. That supports continuous playlist playback; it is not a promise that a YouTube broadcast will never disconnect or that a playlist can run indefinitely without intervention. XSplit’s Sources Menu documentation describes the playlist feature.

The documentation reviewed does not establish a guaranteed single-file repeat mode, maximum broadcast duration, or automatic reconnection commitment for XSplit. Check the controls in your installed version if you need a single video to repeat. Also, do not treat XSplit’s local recording options as proof of 4K live output: recording and streaming are separate features.

Configure XSplit for a 4K YouTube stream

  1. Add the prerecorded content. In Broadcaster, add a Video Playlist source and select the videos for continuous playlist playback. XSplit also documents a Media Slideshow source that supports OGG, MP4, and WebM. Use the source that fits your material, and confirm any single-file repeat option in the installed source controls rather than assuming it is available. See XSplit’s Sources Menu documentation.
  2. Set up YouTube Live output. Choose XSplit’s YouTube Live output and configure the stream details in Broadcaster. XSplit documents connecting a scheduled YouTube event through broadcast details. Depending on the scheduled-stream workflow and transition setting, you may still need to press Go Live separately in YouTube Studio. Follow the prompts shown by your version. See XSplit’s YouTube Live setup documentation and its scheduled-streaming documentation.
  3. Set the canvas and output. Set the canvas resolution and frame rate, then configure the stream video size and FPS for 3840×2160 at either 30 or 60 fps if those options are exposed by your setup. XSplit’s available codecs and encoding choices depend on your hardware, drivers, and streaming service; a 4K canvas setting alone does not establish that your computer can encode and send 4K reliably. See XSplit’s resolution setup documentation.
  4. Choose an encoder and bitrate. For H.264, YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends 30 Mbps at 2160p30 or 35 Mbps at 2160p60. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported codecs in its live encoder settings. Use a compatible encoder option available on your system; do not assume every codec is available in every XSplit build or on every PC. YouTube recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. The guidance allows up to 60 fps. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
  5. Use a stable connection with headroom. Your sustained upload capacity needs to exceed the encoded video bitrate, with extra margin for variation and audio. A connection that only just reaches the target bitrate may not remain stable. Source footage, motion, encoder workload, drivers, and network conditions all affect the result.
  6. Test and monitor. Run a test with comparable video movement and audio, then check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the incoming resolution and frame rate, watch for connection or encoding warnings, and verify that the playlist advances as intended before leaving the broadcast unattended.

What YouTube’s 4K guidance implies

Target YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate
2160p at 30 fps 30 Mbps
2160p at 60 fps 35 Mbps

These are YouTube’s current live-encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a given connection or computer will sustain the stream. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its guidance also says 4K streams are not eligible for low-latency optimization and use normal latency. Check the official YouTube encoder guidance for current settings.

Limits to plan for before leaving a stream running

  • 4K capability is configuration-specific. XSplit exposes resolution and frame-rate controls, but the available output options and ability to encode depend on the machine, drivers, and service support. The controls are not a universal compatibility guarantee.
  • Playlist continuity is not connection continuity. A playlist may keep advancing while the YouTube broadcast can still fail because of an encoder, PC, driver, or network issue. The reviewed XSplit documentation does not promise uninterrupted or indefinite operation.
  • Verify the start and handoff. For a scheduled event, check whether your workflow requires a separate Go Live action in YouTube Studio. Do not assume scheduling alone starts the public broadcast.
  • Review content rights and platform rules. Before streaming, make sure you have the rights to the video and audio and that the content complies with YouTube’s policies. A technically successful stream does not establish permission to broadcast the material.

Troubleshooting a 4K playlist stream

Symptom Likely cause What to check
4K is not available as an output option The selected output configuration, encoder, hardware, or driver may not expose it. Check XSplit’s canvas and stream video size/FPS controls, plus available encoder options and drivers. XSplit’s resolution settings are configurable, but availability is system-dependent.
YouTube reports unstable stream health Upload capacity may be insufficient or variable, or encoding may be overloading the PC. Compare stable upload capacity with the selected bitrate, leave headroom, and inspect encoder load and YouTube Live Control Room warnings. Test at the intended resolution and frame rate.
The scheduled event is set up but not live The workflow may require a separate manual transition in YouTube Studio. Check the scheduled-stream transition setting and whether YouTube Studio is waiting for you to press Go Live.
The video stops or does not repeat as expected Playlist playback and single-file looping are different behaviors; the exact repeat controls may vary by source or version. Confirm the Video Playlist contents and installed source controls. XSplit documents continuous playlist playback, but the reviewed documentation does not establish a universal single-file loop setting.
The broadcast disconnects during playback A live connection can drop independently of playlist playback. Check XSplit and YouTube stream health, the PC and encoder, and network stability. The documentation reviewed does not establish an XSplit automatic-reconnection guarantee.
