Xona Space Systems’ Pulsar is a planned low-Earth-orbit (LEO) positioning, navigation and timing network intended to broadcast alongside GPS and other satellite-navigation signals, not switch them off. In October 2026, Xona described only intermittent early service and said hundreds more satellites are needed for full activation. Pulsar’s near-term role is best understood as a potential source of added resilience and observations, not a functioning GPS replacement.
What is Xona Pulsar?
Pulsar is Xona Space Systems’ planned commercial constellation for positioning, navigation and timing, or PNT. Positioning and navigation help determine where something is and how to get somewhere; precise timing is also used by communications networks, industrial systems and other infrastructure.

Xona says Pulsar is designed to work alongside existing global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals, including GPS, rather than interfere with them. Its product page describes dual-band X1 and X5 signals and compatibility with GNSS receivers using L1 or L5 bands. Xona says many receivers may be able to receive Pulsar after a firmware update, but that broad statement does not establish compatibility for any particular consumer receiver.

Not on the evidence available in October 2026. GPS is an operating navigation system; Pulsar was still in early deployment, with the initial service described by Xona as intermittent. The company’s plan is to add another source of satellite signals that compatible equipment can use alongside GNSS. That could help provide additional observations or resilience, but it is not the same as replacing GPS coverage or service.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Xona says the eventual constellation will have about 300 satellites and that hundreds more spacecraft must be built, launched and operated before full activation. Its product page says rollout is planned over the next few years, but the available company statements do not establish a guaranteed date for continuous global coverage.
How does Xona Pulsar work?
Like GPS, Pulsar is intended to broadcast satellite signals that a compatible receiver can use to calculate position or derive timing. The key difference is orbital design: Pulsar satellites operate in low Earth orbit, closer to the planet than the medium-Earth-orbit satellites used by traditional GNSS constellations.
Xona and its partners argue that the closer orbit can provide stronger received signals and that LEO satellites’ faster motion can improve satellite geometry. Those properties are intended to help in difficult reception environments, such as dense cities or areas under foliage. They do not guarantee reception in every obstructed location: usable service also depends on how many satellites are deployed and visible, signal availability, receiver support and performance validation.

What is Pulsar’s deployment status?
Pulsar-0: technology validation
Pulsar-0, the first production-class spacecraft, launched in June 2025 for technology validation and early live-sky tests. Xona disclosed that the satellite flew without a propulsion system, a trade-off the company said reduced the mission’s capability and lifetime relative to its original plan.
In an October 9, 2026 post, Xona said six satellites were scheduled to launch aboard Bandwagon-5 that month. The company described four as intended to provide the first intermittent service in initial markets, with two more designated as in-house test satellites. The post does not confirm whether that scheduled launch subsequently occurred.
What the announced early service involved
Xona’s October 2026 account described eight broadcasts per day, each lasting about 25 minutes, for early customers across the United States, Canada and most of Europe. It framed the broadcasts as intermittent service, not continuous coverage. The company also said early applications included critical timing infrastructure, where precision clocks could bridge temporary periods without GNSS.

How accurate and strong does Xona say Pulsar is?
Xona’s product page, accessed October 11, 2026, lists a position specification of 2 cm horizontally by 4 cm vertically and timing accuracy of less than 10 ns. It also lists signal power of up to −136 dBW, which Xona describes as 100 times the power of GPS L1 C/A. These are company-published specifications, not an independent assessment of performance across an operational constellation.
Xona’s October 2026 post separately said Pulsar-0 testing had demonstrated under-2-cm accuracy and more than 500 transmissions. Those are company-reported test results from a validation mission; they should not be read as proof of equivalent, continuous performance from a fully deployed commercial service.
So, is Pulsar stronger or more accurate than GPS? Xona’s published signal-power and accuracy figures suggest the company is targeting those advantages, but the numbers are not a like-for-like independent comparison of complete services. Real-world results depend on receiver and signal conditions, satellite availability and the maturity of the deployed network.

What about spoofing, jamming and resilience?
Xona describes cryptographic signal encryption and range authentication as protections against spoofing. Its announcement of an AFRL STAR-FISH demonstration listed planned tests of resilience to jamming and spoofing, multipath reduction and security-key distribution. Planned demonstrations and company descriptions are not the same as independently verified operational results, and a stronger signal alone should not be treated as proof that a system cannot be jammed.
The practical resilience case is therefore still developing. If Pulsar becomes available alongside GNSS, it could provide another signal source for compatible systems to check against or use when GNSS reception is temporarily disrupted. The October 2026 description of intermittent broadcasts, however, does not support treating it as a continuous backup everywhere.
When will Xona Pulsar be available, and who is it for?
Xona’s October 2026 deployment account described early customers in initial markets, but the reviewed company statements do not establish broad consumer availability or a date for continuous global coverage. Announced partner work points mainly to professional and infrastructure uses rather than a ready-made consumer service.

Septentrio said it had tracked Pulsar-0 and signed an MOU with Xona covering receiver development and testing. Its listed potential applications include drones, autonomous vehicles, agriculture, construction, mining, robotics, timing and critical infrastructure. Xona’s AFRL STAR-FISH announcement named QinetiQ, StarNav and Locus Lock as partners in a commercial-user-equipment demonstration.
Trimble and Xona announced a collaboration to pursue integration of Trimble correction services with Pulsar, citing construction, surveying, mapping, automotive and IoT use cases. Murata and Xona announced an MOU to explore industrial positioning and timing solutions. These announcements describe collaborations or prospective applications; they do not establish finished products for all those fields.
Will Pulsar work with my GNSS receiver?
Possibly, if the receiver supports the relevant signals and its manufacturer provides compatible firmware. Xona says Pulsar’s X1 and X5 signals are designed for receivers using L1 or L5 and that many receivers may be enabled through firmware updates. The reviewed sources do not identify a verified retail receiver model that currently works with Pulsar, so check the exact model and firmware support with its manufacturer before buying equipment for this purpose.

A multi-band GNSS receiver by itself does not mean a buyer can access Pulsar service. Receiver compatibility, service availability and any required corrections or other equipment must be confirmed for the specific application.
